Throughout the 1990s, WCW developed into a major force in professional wrestling, challenging WWE for the top spot in the industry. This led to a PPV calendar which grew and grew as the years went on, making room for some poor shows along the way.

With the growing numbers of events, it meant for more main events to be forgotten about. This could have been due to a match being downright bad, due to it not feeling like a main event match, or even just for the simple fact that it was forgettable and not worth even thinking about. Not all of these matches were necessarily terrible, but fans may very well have forgotten about them.

10 Rick Steiner & Missy Hyatt Vs Arn Anderson & Paul E. Dangerously, Great American Bash 1991

Rick Steiner and Paul E Dangerously WCW

The world title match at Great American Bash 1991 between Lex Luger and Barry Windham was very fun, and there was no question that it should have closed the event. Instead, they closed with an intergender steel cage tag match, in which Rick Steiner would team with Missy Hyatt to take on Arn Anderson & Paul E. Dangerously.

However, WCW didn’t realize that the Maryland State Athletic Commission had strict rules against intergender matches, so Hyatt got kidnapped before the bell. The match lasted for all of two minutes, making it completely pointless.

9 Lex Luger Vs Ron Simmons, Halloween Havoc 1991

This event was unfortunately overshadowed by the horrendous Chamber of Horrors match, making everything else that happened quite forgettable. It didn’t help that Ric Flair had joined WWE, meaning that interest had slumped a little for WCW overall.

The main event between Lex Luger and Ron Simmons was actually very enjoyable, but it unfortunately couldn’t escape the shadow of a disastrous event.

8 Hulk Hogan Vs The Butcher, Starrcade 1994

Hulk Hogan v The Butcher Starrcade 1994

Before Hulk Hogan revolutionized both his career and WCW with a heel turn, his run in the company was classic Hogan - in all the bad ways. An example of this saw him overcome one of his real-life friends in a main event which saw two former WWE guys go at it.

The former Brutus Beefcake - now called The Butcher - took on Hogan in a completely unremarkable main event which is up there with the most basic and boring in the company’s history.

7 Diamond Dallas Page Vs Randy Savage, Spring Stampede 1997

Randy Savage v DDP Spring Stampede 1997 Cropped

The match between DDP and Randy Savage at Spring Stampede was fairly decent, but fans may forget about it due to the fact that their following match at Great American Bash was far superior.

In addition, this match didn’t have a title on the line, which adds another reason as to why fans may not have remembered that this took the main event spot on the PPV.

6 Roddy Piper, Ric Flair, & Kevin Greene Vs The nWo, Slamboree 1997

Kevin Greene, Ric Flair, Roddy Piper

There was a lot of star power involved in this match, however, although Kevin Greene did decent, he did feel out of place. This may have been more memorable had this been Greene’s first WCW match, but he had already wrestled in the company before.

It was still a fine match but arguably shouldn’t have taken the main event spot due to it being a special celebrity attraction bout.

5 Dennis Rodman & Hollywood Hogan Vs Diamond Dallas Page & Karl Malone, Bash At The Beach 1998

Dennis Rodman Vs DDP

This was quite simply too long and boring, with it being up there with the most lackluster and brain-numbing main events put forth by WCW. DDP tried his best, but Hogan was past his prime and the two special attraction performers just weren’t up to scratch.

WCW fans will have likely tried to bury this one deep in the back of their minds in an attempt to delete the memory of having to sit through something so painful to watch.

4 Goldberg Vs Diamond Dallas Page, Halloween Havoc 1998

The reason why some fans may have forgotten about this main event is because in several areas the PPV feed was cut off following the awful match between Hollywood Hogan and The Warrior due to WCW failing to inform the PPV providers of the show overrunning.

This left plenty of paying customers unable to see the real main event of the show, which saw Goldberg wrestle in one of his better matches in WCW, taking on Diamond Dallas Page in a WCW World Heavyweight Championship match.

3 Sid Vicious Vs Jeff Jarrett Vs Scott Hall, SuperBrawl 2000

Sid Vicious WCW World Heavyweight Champion

This was referee bump and interference galore, which was very much the case for most of WCW by the year 2000. This was a rushed, messy, and severely unremarkable main event match which offered very little to remember.

Both Sid Vicious and Scott Hall didn’t really look to be in any state to be competing in the main event of a PPV, especially in a match with the promotion’s number one belt on the line.

2 Goldberg Vs KroniK, Halloween Havoc 2000

Goldberg vs KroniK Halloween Havoc 2000

On a show which had multiple championship matches, including a clash between Booker T and Scott Steiner for the WCW World Heavyweight Title, it was very random to see Goldberg main event against KroniK in what was a glorified squash match.

Fans had seen Goldberg squash opponents for years at this point, so this simply didn’t feel like a main event worthy match by any means.

1 Scott Steiner Vs Jeff Jarrett Vs Sid Vicious Vs Road Warrior Animal, Sin 2001

Sid Vicious vs Scott Steiner vs Jeff Jarrett WCW Sin

The 2001 Sin PPV main event really showcased the lack of star power that the company had at this time, with Jeff Jarrett once more shoe-horned into a top spot, and a barely mobile Sid Vicious in the ring too.

Sid would infamously shatter his leg during this match, making it uncomfortable to watch, which was followed by the reveal of Road Warrior Animal as the fourth mystery competitor in the match, which was met with complete indifference. This was a mess of a main event which was so bad that many will have tried to erase it from their memory.
