WCW was known for having a lot of characters aligning with each other as part of the storylines. AEW is currently having the same vibe with many tag teams, factions and managers creating bonds. Quite a few wrestlers in WCW played the sidekick roles in various contexts. The stories range from tag partners to bodyguards to proteges to managers and everything in between.

Some sidekicks are remembered fondly for having their own careers in WCW like Arn Anderson, Scott Hall and Eric Bischoff. However, others to have similar roles don’t get the same love since it is harder to value that position long-term if not having strong chemistry with the other party. Each of the following wrestlers have become forgotten sidekicks from WCW.

10 Ralphus

ralphus

WCW found the funniest potential sidekick for Chris Jericho’s heel character when the Ralphus character was added to his act. Jericho was getting over showing a new side to his personality as the whiny arrogant heel running down cruiserweights and challenging Goldberg when he was not there.

Goldberg’s personal security team was the inspiration for Jericho having Ralphus become his sidekick, but their time together lasted longer past the Goldberg feud. Ralphus become a cult favorite of the WCW diehard fans that loved Jericho.

9 Crowbar

Daffney David Flair Crowbar

David Flair became a huge prospect for WCW solely due to being the son of a legend like Ric Flair. WCW really believed that David could become a bigger star with multiple pushes. However, it was the smallest role of them all that got him the most over.

Crowbar joining Flair as a tag team partner and sidekick helped them each bring out the best of each other. The duo had some fun character moments in the tag division, but Crowbar also served as a sidekick when David had singles programs with bigger names.

8 Big T

Harlem Heat 2000

Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Ahmed Johnson had a failed end to his run there that sunk all of his name value. WCW signed Johnson as Big T to join a new version of Harlem Heat 2000 with Stevie Ray remaining from the previous team.

Booker T turning face as a singles star led to Stevie trying to replace him with a sidekick. Big T barely talked and followed the orders of Stevie despite them being a tag act. The former Ahmed no longer had the same appeal and was a forgotten sidekick in WCW.

7 Jim Neidhart

Jim Neidhart

WCW signing Jim Neidhart got lost in the shuffle when all the other bigger names joined in 1997. Bret Hart departing WCW with the Montreal Screwjob farewell souring it led to his brothers-in-law Davey Boy Smith and Neidhart jumping ship with him.

Neidhart and Smith were rarely associated with Bret despite their WWE time together in the Hart Foundation. WCW primarily had them in tag matches or placed Smith in singles matches with Neidhart being his enforcer sidekick at ringside.

6 Lodi

Lodi WCW

WCW placed the easily forgotten Lodi in multiple roles being a sidekick or lackey to others. Raven’s Flock faction needed wrestlers with that character trait to follow Raven’s orders. Lodi became known for sitting at ringside and having comedic signs for Raven.

The end of the faction saw Lodi resurfacing a while later in the odd couple romance angle with Lenny Lane. WCW trusted Lenny to have stronger matches in the cruiserweight division, but Lodi became his sidekick in a glorified manager role if they weren’t teaming.

5 The Wall

The Wall in WCW

The Wall joined WCW with an interesting gimmick as the bodyguard for Alex Wright’s new Berlyn heel character. WCW wanted to give Wright a heater for this new role that could give him an unfair advantage or flat out allowed him to get away with cheating.

Berlyn ended up flopping as a character and even had network executives wanting WCW to end it. The Wall was the only part of the act that worked and helped him get a short-lived singles push afterwards. WCW could have benefited more from finding a better role for The Wall to sidekick a bigger star.

4 Sonny Ono

Ernest Miller Sonny Ono

WCW hired a few managers when the company expanded during the bigger success of the Monday Night Wars. Sonny Ono became a perfect obnoxious heel sidekick when managing the extremely talented cruiserweight Ultimo Dragon.

The international success and WCW presence saw Dragon holding many top titles to come off important. Ono was the main talker for Dragon to bridge the language barrier gap and become a comedic sidekick. Psicosis, Ernest Miller and a few other wrestlers also benefited from having Sonny with them, especially after he split from Dragon.

3 Elix Skipper

Elix Skipper WCW

Team Canada found success in WCW as a hated faction inspired by WWE’s Hart Foundation. Lance Storm doing the best character work of his career made it work, but there were a few underrated members to add some depth.

Elix Skipper was considered the sidekick and protégé of Storm due to his background playing football in the Canadian Football League. WCW fans believed in their chemistry at the start to warrant the group growing with Jim Duggan, Major Gunns, Mike Awesome and others joining.

2 Chastity

Chastity WCW

Chastity is a wrestling personality to get overlooked throughout the years, but she is remembered by the diehard ECW and WCW fans. The move from ECW to WCW felt like a huge step for Chastity trying to become a fixture in the industry.

WCW signed Chastity for two roles as Raven’s sister and The Sandman’s love interest. Both roles featured Chastity playing a sidekick more than a valet or manager. WCW unfortunately didn’t fully believe in any of those three talents to make her run less impactful.

1 The Disciple

Hollywood Hogan and The Disciple

Ed Leslie will forever be remembered for being Hulk Hogan’s sidekick in real life, but there was a forgotten chapter of that on screen for him. WWE had them team up to create that television bond until Hogan looked out for his friend even more in WCW.

A character change towards The Disciple made Leslie come off like a new person since he changed his look. Hogan once refused to let him join the New World Order at the start, but he allowed Leslie to become his sidekick as The Disciple. The entire job for Leslie at this time was to stand in the background while Hogan talked or joining in on group attacks.
