WCW had a very talented roster. Looking back, it makes you wonder who should have been champion and who did not get the title rightfully.

Due to the competitive nature of the Monday Night Wars, we got to see talents thrive in both WWE and WCW. Both companies missed the buck on some wrestlers. However, WCW had an extensive roster thanks to all the money they were throwing around. Obviously, the company did not last, but while they were going strong, were their possible world champion talents that they missed?

Also, did they dodge some bullets by not hot-shotting a wrestler who wasn't ready for a world title? Let us look at five superstars that should have been champions and five that rightfully did not become champions.

10 Rightfully Didn't, Stunning Steve Austin

Stunning Steve Austin as WCW United States Champion

Stone Cold Steve Austin took the WWE by storm. He was easily one of the best WWE Champions of all time, and he led the Attitude Era to unprecedented highs. However, he was not the same guy in WCW. "Stunning" Steve Austin was a good wrestler climbing his way up the ladder. He had potential, and WCW definitely could have used him better, but he had not yet flipped the switch to become the main event talent he would become. If he had not been fired from WCW and gone to ECW, who knows if we'd ever get Stone Cold Steve Austin?

9 Should Have, Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho WCW

Looking at where Chris Jericho is now and all that he has accomplished, it is embarrassing that WCW did not push Jericho more. Chris Jericho is exactly what WCW was desperate for later. He was a young star and became a key player when he switched over to WWE. Unlike Steve Austin, Jericho was ready. He had an excellent character and was getting over anything he was given. Jericho was a smaller guy, but being undersized only helped him to be a cowardly heel and get heat. Plus, he could wrestle with anyone.

Jericho would win the WCW World Title during the 2001 Invasion storyline, but Y2J was a WWE wrestler at the time. He was ready for that position back when he was under the WCW umbrella in the 1990s.

8 Rightfully Didn't, Rey Mysterio

Rey Mysterio WCW

Rey Mysterio eventually won the World Heavyweight Championship in WWE. However, he won it after Eddie died. Rey absolutely deserved the title reign because he was easily one of the biggest attractions at the time. However, it was also a lightning in-the-bottle moment where the timing for him to be champion was perfect. However, as an exciting cruiserweight in WCW, he was not ready for the title. He was younger and nowhere near the character he would go on to be in WWE.

7 Should Have, Bam Bam Bigelow

bam-bam-bigelow-wwe

Just look at Bam Bam Bigelow. He has impressive size, and watching a man his size compete is an attraction. Now add to that the fact that Bam Bam Bigelow could compete like a man half his size. Who would not want to see that? Plus, he had already main evented a WrestleMania against Lawrence Taylor, one of the most extraordinary talents to play in the NFL.

Bam Bam had also carried ECW on his back as the world champion. WCW squandered their opportunity in parlaying his momentum in other promotions and turning Bam Bam into a smash hit as WCW Champion.

6 Rightfully Didn't The Guardian Angel

The Guardian Angel

The Guardian Angel, aka the Big Boss Man, rightfully did not win the title. He was a big guy with a solid look who did many things well. However, he did not have a skill set that demanded him to be at the top of the card. He was a good wrestler, but WCW had better. Also, he had gotten famous in WWE in the era of cartoonish gimmicks, and the times were changing, yet WCW was still trying to cash in on his WWE notoriety. Also, the nWo was a significant barrier to success, and The Guardian Angel was not the right wrestler to bring the nWo to its knees.

5 Should Have, Eddie Guerrero

Eddie Guerrero LWO

Eddie Guerrero, first and foremost, was an incredible wrestler. He was a great wrestler in WCW and a great promo. He knows how to entertain and get under people's skin as a heel. People still talk about the promo Eddie cut on Eric Bischoff. Also, Eddie never joined the bloated nWo. Instead, he started the Latino World Order, proving he's a leader among men. Eddie showed the talent of the legendary performer he would become known as. All he needed was more opportunity.

4 Rightfully Didn't, Booty Man

Brutus Beefcake The Booty Man

The Booty Man was a wrestler with many names in WCW, such as Brother Bruti, The Zodiac, and the Butcher. However, we can all agree that the Booty Man is the best one. The Booty Man had an opportunity to win the WCW Title in a match against Hulk Hogan, and the Booty Man did not end up winning, which was the right call.

Ed Leslie is really good in a role-player gimmick which is why he is most fondly remembered as Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake. However, the Booty Man did not have strong enough wrestling skills or character to hold the belt over all the top stars on the card.

3 Should Have, Cactus Jack

Mick Foley inWCW

Mick Foley, aka Cactus Jack, belongs on the Mount Rushmore of wrestling. He checks off every box, he can wrestle his but off, but his promo ability is even greater than his in-ring skills. Mick had not yet reached his peak as Mankind, but the Cactus Jack persona was close enough to be WCW World Heavyweight Champion.

Cactus Jack was willing to do whatever it took to his body or his opponents to win the match, making him a credible threat. He would have been an excellent WCW Champion. Jack could be a dastardly heel or a brave hero. He could have worked with anyone as a champion.

2 Rightfully Didn't, Warrior

The Ultimate Warrior in ring against Hulk Hogan WCW

The Ultimate Warrior was a huge draw in WWE. However, his WCW run was a disaster. His big comeback promo went 20 minutes over, causing WCW writers to rewrite the show on the fly. Warrior only had three matches, and none of them were very good. Even Warrior himself acknowledged that his time in WCW did not go well. He retired after WCW and said he was only brought back so that Hulk Hogan could get his win back from WrestleMania 6. That terrible run rightfully did not culminate in a WCW Title reign.

1 Should Have, Scott Hall

Scott Hall Debuts On Nitro

It is absolutely insane that one of the biggest draws in WCW history never won the WCW Title. Scott Hall's impact on WCW almost goes without saying. He started the nWo and was the more charismatic of the two Outsiders. Scott Hall at least won the WCW United States Championship twice, but it is still crazy that he never won the actual WCW Title. Scott Hall had the size and athleticism that you want in a champion. Honestly, Scott Hall made the nWo cool, and you would think WCW would want that charisma in their champion.
