WWE's Women's Division has made leaps and bounds over the last decade. Still, strong and justified critiques are made about the utilization of their stacked female roster. More specifically, the lack of storylines separate from the championship picture.

WWE isn't the only company guilty of this booking misfire. AEW and Impact put their women's rosters under similar restrictions. This is why a feud like the one between Becky Lynch and the returning Asuka is so vital. A program with this amount of star power and potential match quality instantly makes it one of the more intriguing storylines in WWE. The talent of these women will no doubt deliver, and hopefully, it'll open the door for more programs like it.

Non-Title Storylines Help Build The Division

Non-title feuds can still have high stakes. After losing her Championship to Bianca Belair at WrestleMania, Becky Lynch needed a break from the title picture. In her April 25th Raw promo, when Lynch teased approaching the women's championship again, she received the "What?!" treatment, a tell-tale sign of a bored fanbase. But, when Asuka's music hit - the capacity crowd lit up like a firecracker on the 4th of July!

The history between these two superstars is enticing enough. Three years ago, Becky Lynch walked away from WWE to give birth to her daughter. In doing so, she gave her Raw Women's Championship to then-Money In The Winner, Asuka.

Now, after Asuka's injury absence, the two find themselves fighting not for gold; but for pride. A match like this, removed from the Championship, will only help the division. When the division is elevated, the Championship itself is elevated with it.

Non-Title Feuds Are Tried And True

The women's roster has excelled in creating riveting non-title storylines when given the opportunity. In AEW, the most storied women's rivalry between Thunder Rosa and Britt Baker started away from the AEW Women's Championship. Their mutual animosity started a year before they fought for the top prize. When Thunder Rosa finally won the gold, the emotional celebration felt more powerful. Not only had Rosa won the championship in her hometown, but she had defeated her fiercest rival.

WWE has seen success with non-title feuds as well. There have been some that didn't hit (Nikki A.S.H. and Rhea Rhipley, for example). However, dense and layered stories like Liv Morgan and Sonya Deville were very well-executed.

There are plenty of talented wrestlers on their roster to incorporate; Doudrop, Lacey Evans, Bayley, Raquel Rodriguez, and Shotzi, to name a few. In addition to the talent they have to play with, they also have time. WWE produces 7 hours of television every single week.

More Women's Matches On PPVs Help WWE's Future

WrestleMania 38 featured three women's matches (over two nights), all revolving around a championship. Meanwhile, fans were subjected to unnecessary matches of The New Day vs. Sheamus and Ridge Holland, McIntyre vs. Corbin, and dozens of video packages and advertisements.

Matches like Asuka and Lynch would be welcome additions to the typically uneven Premium Live Event cards. Especially when you consider that some of WWE's most popular stars are on the women's roster (Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, Bianca Belair, Alexa Bliss, and Bayley). Those stars must be involved in a storyline at all times.

An argument can be made that the women's division is the future of WWE. The company should start booking with that in mind. Asuka and Becky Lynch could be the perfect fuse to start that fire.
