For Kevin Owens, re-signing with WWE was a no-brainer.

On Wednesday, multiple reports stated that Owens had signed a new contract with the WWE. It's reportedly a three-year deal that will pay Owens $2-3 million annually, and it the contract apparently doesn't carry a no-cut clause.

During an interview with Pat Laprade of TVA Sports, Owens explained that re-signing with WWE was best for his family, and that it was an "easy" call to stay where he is.

"The decision was pretty easy because it really was the best thing for my family," Owens said, via Google Translate. "When it comes to that, it’s always a pretty easy decision. WWE has been my home for seven years, so I have a sense of belonging. Basically, I spent most of my career there. When you look at all the wrestling companies I’ve wrestled in, in WWE, that’s where I’ve been the longest, that’s where I need to be for the next few years. That’s how I felt and that’s the decision I made."

In the interview, The Prized Fighter confirmed that his current deal is slated to expire on Jan. 31 — two days after the Royal Rumble 2022 pay-per-view. It was previously a five-year contract that was reworked, which pushed up the expiration date to next month.

The contract of Owens' close friend and fellow veteran WWE superstar, Sami Zayn, is slated to expire soon as well. Both wrestlers have enjoyed recent pushes to the main event scene, with Zayn challenging Roman Reigns for the Universal Title (in a losing effort) on SmackDown two weeks ago.

Owens, Big E, Bobby Lashley and Seth Rollins will square off in a Fatal Four-Way match for The Power of Positivity's WWE Championship at the Day 1 pay-per-view on New Year's Day.

There was speculation that Owens would leave WWE for AEW. He is friends with several talents there, including The Young Bucks and Adam Cole. However, it was reported that some within the company didn't think Owens coming to AEW was actually realistic.

WWE Should Push Owens Long-Term

With Owens signed to a new deal, it's time for WWE to push him as a long-term main event star once and for all. Owens has spent too much time in the mid-card and tag team division scenes ever since his Universal title run ended in 2017. He has all the makings to be a top main event performer, and the least WWE could do is put him in that spotlight.
