AJ Styles is undoubtedly one of the best wrestlers of the 21st century, some fans even consider him to be one of the best of all time, which is not far-fetched at all. The Phenomenal One has had a legendary career, carrying TNA for a decade, making his mark in Japan and also pretty much guaranteeing his place in the WWE Hall of Fame once he retires.

Throughout that long career, AJ Styles has faced countless wrestlers. Obviously people remember his recent matches and his all-time classics, but there are several wrestlers you didn't know AJ Styles faced, and below are 10 of them.

10 Adam Cole

Styles Vs Cole ROH

AJ Styles versus Adam Cole would be a dream match for many fans, but what many don't know is that they have already faced each other. On September 6, 2014, at ROH All Star Extravaganza 6, Styles and Cole faced off for the first and, so far, only time.

It was an outstanding bout, with good pacing and a simple, but well-executed story. Cole's work on Styles' leg is top-notch, as is the selling of the latter. After 23 minutes, The Phenomenal One was the winner.

9 Sabu

Sabu walking to the ring in ECW

TNA Television Champion AJ Styles faced off against hardcore icon Sabu in a Ladder match on the September 23, 2010, episode of TNA iMPACT. Sabu was past his prime, but Styles made him look great.

Also, The Phenomenal One showed great offense and gained momentum and credibility by defeating Sabu. It was a solid match overall, and had Sabu been at full strength they could have delivered a memorable show.

8 Brian Kendrick

The Brian Kendrick

On the next edition of TNA, AJ Styles faced off against Brian Kendrick. These two in a ring have the potential to steal the show, but unfortunately that wasn't the case.

The match lasted less than five minutes, so they failed to tell a proper story. At least in that short time they executed some good sequences and a couple of amazing maneuvers. Styles ended up winning the match and retaining the Television Title.

7 Karl Anderson

AJ Styles vs Karl Anderson

AJ Styles and Karl Anderson have been friends for a long time, they always have each other's backs, and that was evident when Anderson and Luke Gallows returned to WWE to help AJ in his feud with the Judgment Day.

However, Styles and Anderson did face each other once, at NJPW G1 Climax 24 (2014). It was an excellent match, with back-and-forth action and some great maneuvers, that saw Styles score the victory over his friend.

6 Luke Gallows

Luke Gallows vs AJ Styles

That's right, AJ Styles also faced Luke Gallows in a singles match. This match took place at the next edition of NJPW G1 Climax (2015).

Truth be told, this bout was nowhere near Styles vs. Anderson, as for some reason Styles and Gallows didn't seem to be motivated that day, and they also didn't get much time to tell a better story. In the end, AJ Styles was the winner.

5 The Sandman

You probably know ECW legend The Sandman and, believe it or not, he faced AJ Styles on one occasion. It was a No Disqualification match that took place on February 26, 2003, at NWA Total Nonstop Action 34.

AJ was quite young, and the experienced one was the Sandman, their wrestling styles were totally different, but still they showed good chemistry and the match turned out to be a good one. After a Styles Clash, AJ got the win, although it was one of the few times that Styles' finisher didn't look good.

4 Scott Hall

Scott Hall in TNA. Fingers up.

It's hard to believe that AJ Styles faced the iconic Scott Hall, but it actually happened. In the main event of the November 26, 2004, episode of TNA iMPACT, Hall and Styles went one-on-one.

Considering Hall was well past his prime and Styles was a rising star, this match was quite entertaining. They put on a decent show and the fans were invested. The match ended when Kevin Nash hit Styles with a chair without the referee noticing, this allowed Hall to make the cover for the win.

3 Minoru Suzuki

AJ Styles vs Minoru Suzuki

Surely some fans know that AJ Styles faced Minoru Suzuki, as their match was so fantastic that it became a must-watch. At NJPW G1 Climax 24, the Phenomenal defeated Suzuki, but at what cost?

Well, the Japanese brawler pushed Styles to his limits, perhaps one of the toughest matches of AJ's career. The storytelling and in-ring psychology couldn't have been better. This was a technical master class worth watching again and again.

2 Dusty Rhodes

AJ Styles vs Dusty Rhodes

Believe it or not, AJ Styles faced Dusty Rhodes a couple of times. This unlikely feud occurred in 2003 in NWA/TNA. The American Dream even challenged the Phenomenal One to a World Heavyweight Title match, which was pretty bad.

At that time Dusty's wrestling skills had already deteriorated badly and, on top of that, the booking of the match was terrible. Styles got his hands on the referee and inexplicably that wasn't a disqualification. Eventually Styles won and retained the title, but he looked weak against Rhodes.

1 The Hurricane

The Hurricane Returns

AJ Styles not only faced off against The Hurricane, but lost the match. The Hurricane was always a comedy gimmick, while AJ Styles is one of the all-time greats, but in wrestling anything can happen.

On the January 26, 2002, episode of WWE Jakked, Styles filled the role of jobber, and lost to the Hurricane in less than five minutes. Amazing, isn't it?
