When you head to the ring with your ride-or-die bestie, you should not have to question whether or not they have your back, especially when you’re trying to win tag titles and make some serious money. After all, the two of you have been riding up and down the roads for years together.
Unfortunately, some tag team superstars constantly want to get on to the next phase of their careers as singles superstars, and they turn on their tag team partners. Constantly, no matter who they’re partnered up with or for how long, these superstars can’t seem to stop turning on their partners.
8 Shawn Michaels
There have been so many betrayals on top of betrayals on this list. But for old school Golden Era fans, nothing quite beats Marty Jannetty “diving through the window” of The Barbershop “to escape.” Paraphrasing Bobby Heenan aside, Shawn Michaels turning on Jannetty began a career of ol’ HBK turning on anyone that sided with him. From his manager Sherri to Diesel to Cena, Hulk Hogan, and all points in-between, if you’re Shawn Michaels’ tag team partner, look to be on the receiving end of a Superkick at some point or another.
7 Christian
Christian and Edge were inseparable for nearly five years until The Invasion. It was than that Christian decided to use their Kayfabe storyline mother as fodder for turning on Edge.
He would also go on to turn on Chris Jericho over their Canadian dollar bet. Most recently in AEW, he had been mentoring Jungle Boy until he decided it would be better to smash his head open in front of his mother and sister.
6 Sasha Banks
Whenever Sasha Banks was on-screen, WWE fans heard Cory Graves talk about how the only think The Boss cared about was herself above all else. Despite being a “heel announcer,” Graves’ insight did lend credence to each of her heel turns. Usually she’d turn on her bestie Bayley. But it really didn’t matter who it was - be it Becky Lynch, Charlotte, Bayley, or anyone else. If you’re Sasha’s friend, you might want to grow eyes in the back of your head to see when the knife was coming for your back.
5 Triple H
Usually out of pure ego and the desire to be all alone on the top of the mountain is why Triple H turned on anyone and everyone. He turned on his DX brothers X-Pac and The Outlaws to join the Corporation with Chyna. He set out on his own without Chyna, he annihilated his best friend Shawn Michaels on more than one occasion. He also delivered the iconic Thumbs Down to Randy Orton and tossed him out of Evolution.
4 Randy Orton
Of course Randy Orton turns his back on all sorts of partners - he learned how from the likes of Triple H and Ric Flair.
His partners in Legacy, The Wyatt Family, The Authority, Ric Flair, Rated-RKO, everyone The Viper has turned on everyone who stood with him except for his father and Riddle. It’s easy to assume once he returns from injury, Riddle’s days are numbered.
3 MJF
Just because you’re from a magical place like Long Island, New York doesn’t mean that you’re a magical person. MJF isn’t even thirty yet and already fans know that he can’t be trusted. He’s been turning on people since the day he started in AEW.
First he turned on Cody, costing him any chance at the world title. It wasn’t long after that he weaseled his way into the Inner Circle and took them apart from within. He even roped CM Punk into buying his line of BS if not for just a week before resuming their regularly scheduled program.
2 The Four Horsemen
When the Four Horsemen were running amok, no one was safe from a betrayal, even from within their own ranks. You’d think Sting would know better, but Ric Flair constantly lured him in just to turn on him, first tossing him out of the group when he wanted a title shot and years later when he, Double A, and Brian Pillman reformed the stable.
Speaking of Arn, as Dusty said, he’s a thief and there’s no honor amongst thieves - Arn reeled Dustin in only to betray him and side with The Bunkhouse Stable. To be fair, Dustin should have seen that coming too, any Horsemen teaming up with any Rhodes just doesn’t make any sense.
1 Dakota Kai
Practically from the moment she arrived in NXT, Dakota Kai has walked away from her friendships and tag team partners. She had returned from injury and was supposedly primed and ready for War Games when she kicked her bestie Tegan Nox in the face. She also turned on her best friend Raquel Gonzalez, simply because Big Mami Cool starting smiling at the fans. It will be interesting to see who she turns her back on next now that she’s back and on the main roster.
