The history of wrestling factions typically will see one star leading the rest of the group. Leaders of a faction can help make a stable important by just their presence. Hulk Hogan leading the New World Order, Ric Flair leading the Four Horsemen, and Shawn Michaels leading D-Generation X made those groups relevant from the start.

However, there have been unique instances of stables not having a leader. The idea behind that thinking is that everyone can get over. Some stories feature no one talent standing above others, while certain examples just had it make sense for the angle. Each of the following factions spent most of their time not having a specific leader.

10 The Shield

The Shield Pose

The magic of The Shield for WWE was that they all came off like equals from day one. WWE clearly viewed Roman Reigns as the biggest prospect of three, but that wasn’t indicated in the booking during their time together.

Reigns, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose all were given the chance to show their overall potential by having great matches together. WWE fans viewed all three wrestlers as credible top names when the group broke up, and it helped them all win world titles.

9 Spirit Squad

Spirit Squad

WWE put together the Spirit Squad by picking five of the top prospects from Ohio Valley Wrestling’s developmental core. Kenny Dykstra was viewed as the name with the most potential, but the group remained bonded together by identities.

The Spirit Squad received enough heel heat work programs with Kane, Big Show, D-Generation X, Ric Flair, and a few other top names. WWE might have benefited more from making Kenny the leader since his singles push failed after they broke up.

8 The Filthy Animals

Filthy Animals

WCW booked a few of the top members of the cruiserweight division together when coming up with the Filthy Animals. Rey Mysterio, Eddie Guerrero, Konnan and Billy Kidman were all close friends and it showed when forming a faction.

The Filthy Animals received great ovations for the beloved act, especially with Torrie Wilson eventually joining them. No one in the group was the leader and they all came off as complete equals during their time together.

7 The New Breed

The New Breed

The ECW revamp by WWE featured the company hoping to create a third brand with the younger stars getting over before moving to a bigger show. One of the bigger angles featured a stable known as the New Breed feuding with the Originals.

Elijah Burke received more opportunities than Matt Striker, Kevin Thorne and Marcus Cor Von, but he was never portrayed as the leader. The short stint of CM Punk joining the New Breed was the closest thing to a leader before turning on them after a few weeks.

6 Team Canada

Team Canada

The TNA version of a Team Canada faction created an act with a lot of heel heat. Scott D’Amore did most of the talking as a manager, but the wrestlers often held more power than him due to their actions.

Bobby Roode, Eric Young and Petey Williams were all on the same level together as talented rising stars. Team Canada worked due to the anti-American gimmick as a way to get heel heat, so a leader wasn’t as important as with other factions.

5 Bullet Club

Bullet Club AJ Styles

Wrestling fans have viewed the likes of Finn Balor, AJ Styles, Kenny Omega, and Jay White as leaders of the Bullet Club. However, the group itself has made it clear they never wanted to have any one person leading over the others.

Bullet Club has been considered a faction without a leader due to the intended result of making everyone matter. Prior eras would see Styles and Omega saying Karl Anderson was the closest thing to a leader due to his role in starting the group.

4 Team Xtreme

Team Xtreme

The trio of Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy and Lita became one of the most popular acts of the Attitude Era. WWE found the perfect chemistry when Lita got over as a wrestler and joined two wrestlers that had similar characters.

Team Xtreme was the name given to the trio due to their high-risk moves. None of them had a stint as the leader and it was even played out in a storyline when Matt and Jeff entered a mini feud. Lita was just as important as them as the most beloved woman on the roster.

3 The Radicalz

The Radicalz

The debut of The Radicalz in WWE made a huge statement that WCW was reaching the end of the road. Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn all jumped ship in early 2000 and got introduced together as a faction.

Fans naturally viewed Benoit and Guerrero as the leaders due to their success and upside at the time, but no one was a leader above the other. The Radicalz eventually went their separate ways when the group no longer co-existed as characters.

2 The Un-Americans

The Unamericans

WWE wanted to get heel heat with the concept of The Un-Americans coming when American fans were fully into patriotism in the early 2000s. Lance Storm, Christian, Test and William Regal were all on the same tier with no one being booked above the others.

The promos often saw Storm talking the most since he had experience with this act in WCW’s Team Canada faction. Test had a big feud with The Undertaker, but he wasn’t booked in a way that shined light on him more than the others at any point.

1 New Day

New Day Summerslam 2015

The success of New Day proves just how little it means to have an official leader if the group has enough chemistry. Kofi Kingston could have been the leader on paper when the group started since he achieved more than Xavier Woods or Big E.

However, the intent was for all three wrestlers to be equal and to showcase their real-life friendship as part of the act. Kingston and Big E each winning the WWE Championship showed they could get to the top together. Even though Woods is the only one to not reach that level, he still comes off as important as the other two.
