Wrestling is something that is always focused on safety, even though the wrestlers put together brilliant moves that look painful, the main aim of every match is for nobody to be injured. However, considering how athletic wrestling is, injuries often take place as things can always go wrong.
However, while injuries are often accidents, occasionally it is the exact same move that can cause a problem. Even though the performer using the move can be a brilliant in-ring talent, there have been instances over the years when a certain move has actually hurt people more times than once, proving just how dangerous wrestling can be.10 Styles Clash
The Styles Clash is one of the most exciting moves in wrestling history, and AJ Styles is obviously a fantastic wrestler, who is very safe. However, several wrestlers have been hurt by this move, and considering the closeness it can go to the neck, there is a real risk factor.
If people don't get their heads in the right position, people can be hurt badly. The likes of Roderick Strong and Lionheart have had problems with this one before. However, the worst injury came to Yoshi Tatsu, who suffered a broken neck because of it.
9 Buckle Bomb
Seth Rollins is another excellent professional wrestler, but he has had a couple of problems across his career with the Buckle Bomb. The move is a fairly simple one and isn't a special or finisher of Seth's, but it is one that has caused problems.
Both Finn Balor and Sting have suffered problems from receiving this move over the years, which have actually been well noted. Sting's in-ring career was almost ended after being on the receiving end of this one, which was known for being quite dangerous. And Balor had to vacate the Universal Title a day after receiving this move at SummerSlam 2016. Balor suffered a shoulder injury, specifically a labrum tear as a result of this move, requiring surgery.
8 619 (Including Lead-Up To The Move)
The 619 is a move that is well known around the world by wresting fans and Rey Mysterio is also a well-respected wrestler that has put on amazing matches across his career. However, although it is rare, this move has been associated with injury.
Mysterio once broke Cody Rhodes' nose with the move, while the most serious situation actually resulted in the death of another wrestler. This situation happened during a Mexican show when El Hijo del Perro Aguayo was unfortunately killed after injuries during the setup to the move. Although he actually died from a dropkick from Rey and not the 619 itself.
7 Shooting Star Press
When high-flying action is put into the mix, there is always the chance that serious injuries can be sustained. Because of the need to get the timing and height perfect, the risk factor always heightens, and over the years the Shooting Star Press has caused problems.
Chavo Guerrero once had Billy Kidman land on his face during this move, which caused a serious concussion problem. Meanwhile, Brock Lesnar nearly broke his own neck attempting to nail this finisher himself against Kurt Angle at WrestleMania XIX.
6 DDT
The DDT is one of the most common wrestling moves in the industry right now. This is something that countless talents have used over the years and it is considered to be relatively safe because of that. However, that isn't the case as it has caused plenty of injuries.
It proves that even moves audiences are expected to see can be risky. Ricky Steamboat once suffered a concussion at the hands of this move, while Drew McIntyre actually broke his neck because of a DDT.
5 Chokeslam
The Chokeslam is another move that most fans expect is fairly safe and for the most part, it is, which is why so many powerful wrestlers have used it. But when it is pushed to the extreme it can cause huge injuries, as it did to Mick Foley when he was sent crashing through the roof of Hell in a Cell to the mat at King of the Ring 1998.
But even outside of major spots like that, the move can be dangerous when not applied correctly. Kairi Sane was hurt at the hands of Nia Jax attempting this move, showcasing how easy it is to make certain things go wrong.
4 Powerbomb
There are many different variations of the Powerbomb, and there have been a lot of injuries from this move and due to the power that it provides, they can cause a lot of problems. Kevin Nash once hurt Big Show when attempting to hit his Powerbomb finisher to him during their WCW days.
Droz had his career ended from a running Powerbomb from D'Lo Brown, which did lead to his retirement as he was paralyzed from the move, showcasing the serious side of wrestling injuries.
3 GTS
Any move that results in someone being struck in the face is always going to have a risk of causing problems, and that is something that the GTS provides. It's a fantastic finishing move, but it has led to some serious injuries over the years.
Rey Mysterio and Gene Snitsky have suffered broken noses via CM Punk in the past from this move, but the most serious injury was suffered by The Brian Kendrick. Hideo Itami hit the move and that led to the WWE veteran suffering a broken orbital bone.
2 Five Star Frog Splash
The Five Star Frog Splash is another high-risk move, but there is a risk for a reason. This is another finisher that has caused problems for people over the years, with Triple H almost losing his voice because of the move when RVD hit it at the 2002 Survivor Series.
He landed on Triple H's larynx, which caused him a major breathing problem and was a serious injury. Many other talents have been hurt by this one, including RVD himself who once actually gave himself a concussion when hitting this one.
1 Piledriver
When it comes to wrestling moves causing an injury, the Piledriver is one of the most famous. This move puts a lot of focus on the neck and when it goes wrong, it can have devastating problems. The most famous example of this came when Steve Austin suffered a broken neck as Owen Hart attempted to hit the move.
It's something that didn't work and caused serious problems. However, there have been countless wrestlers who have been hurt from this, with B.J. Whitmer being another example of a talent who has been hurt by this classic move.
