A wrestling company's tag team division is always up and down. There is no singular way to turn a tag team unit into stars. Sometimes they are instant show-stealers like The Outsiders (Kevin Nash and Scott Hall). Sometimes their split up sends them into stardom like The Rockers (Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty) in WWE. As difficult as they are to establish, every wrestling company has a tag team unit that defines the company.

With so many promotions in the history of wrestling (some defunct and some still in business today), thousands of tag team units have competed in a ring. This list will examine 10 tag team units that are almost universally considered the best of a wrestling promotion.

10 ECW: The Dudley Boyz

Dudley Boyz

The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Rey and D-Von Dudley) have as much of a case as anyone for the title of "greatest tag team of all time." They've held belts in almost every company they competed in. Their chemistry was unmatched and although their solo careers were average, they achieved so much as a unit they never needed to succeed as solo stars.

The "hardcore" style fans know them for grew to prominence at ECW. There is no tag team at ECW even remotely on their level. They helped the company reach its heights and then competed as the best tag team in wrestling for two decades after ECW went away.

9 AEW: The Young Bucks

AEW is still in its infancy as a wrestling promotion but has made massive strides. It has overtaken the wrestling world and is often one of the best wrestling products in the world. Their tag team division has also been spectacular. Many tag team units could be labeled as "the best," but The Young Bucks stand out in the deep roster.

Not only are they Vice Presidents at the company, but they also put on matches that are constantly rated through the roof. They competed in the highest-rated AEW match of all time according to Dave Meltzer, have been a tag team during their entire tenure with the company, and are the first tag team unit to hold the AEW titles twice, and are still just getting started.

8 WCCW: The Von Erichs

The Von Erichs

World Class Championship Wrestling (WCCW) has been defunct since the 90s, but in its heyday had a roster full of future legends like Shawn Michaels, Mick Foley, and The Fabulous Freebirds. Various members of the Von Erich family dominated the company pretty much after its inception in 1966.

Kerry and Kevin Von Erich were the most dominant tag team unit to ever compete at the company. They held the six-man tag team titles and the tag team titles. The Von Erichs were an absolute force at the company and no other tag or stable came close to their level at WCCW.

7 AWA: The Road Warriors (Animal and Hawk)

The Road Warriors

The Road Warriors (Animal and Hawk) are the most important tag team unit to ever exist. Their look is iconic and their time in wrestling elevated the tag team division from "a part of the show" to the "biggest attraction." There are plenty of places The Road Warriors have been the best tag team, but their time in the AWA was particularly special.

They competed against other legendary tag teams at AWA, like The Fabulous Freebirds, and set themselves up for their legendary run as one of the greatest tag teams of all time.

6 WCW: Harlem Heat

Harlem Heat WCW Tag Team Champions

Although WCW had many of the greatest tag team units of all time, Harlem Heat was a consistent giant. They competed against everyone on the WCW roster and held their own through every bout.

They never got the name recognition of The Outsiders or The Steiners, but they held the WCW Tag Team Titles on ten different occasions. They never had a major run anywhere outside WCW, but they didn't need it. They left the company as legends and everything after their time there is an extension of the foundation they establish in WCW.

5 NJPW: Tencozy

Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Satoshi Kojima (Tencozy) won the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Champions on six occasions and the G1 Tag League twice. Not only have they been a top tag team through their entire run as a unit, but they also won the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team in three different decades, the 90s, 2000s, and 2010s.

They are also a big fan favorite at New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) and have rewritten the art of tag team wrestling through their decades in the ring.

4 ROH: Briscoe Brothers

Briscoe Brothers

The Briscoe Brothers have been around since the inception of ROH. They have become the face of the company despite the many future Hall of Famers that have competed against them.

Their great matches and impeccable chemistry as a unit have always made a case for ROH's legitimacy as a promotion. They have twelve reigns as ROH World Tag Team Champions and despite debuting in 2002 have had two five-star Dave Meltzer rated matches in 2022.

3 WWE: Edge and Christian

Edge And Christian

Of all the tag teams to ever compete in the WWE, few have a resume at the same level as Edge and Christian. They've held the WWE Tag Team Titles seven different times, have had many show-stealing matches, and both became WWE World Champions after splitting up.

Their chemistry is only rivaled by their greatest rival, The Hardys. They defined an entire generation of tag team wrestling and their impact has only begun to unfold. They are the current tag team standard in the WWE and everywhere else in the world of wrestling.

2 AAA: Lucha Brothers

Lucha Brothers

The Lucha Brother's ascension to the top of the wrestling world can be directly traced back to their days at AAA wrestling. Fénix and Pentagón Jr. won the AAA Tag Team Titles in their first match with the promotion.

They have only competed there for the last four years and have already become the greatest tag team unit to ever set foot at the company. AAA has had a ton of talented tag teams, but none of them elevated the company by becoming "the face" at the level of The Lucha Brothers.

1 Impact Wrestling: Beer Money Inc.

James Storm and Robert Roode were thrown together and expected to be a "here today, gone tomorrow" tag team. Instead, chemistry helped them ascend to the top of the Impact Wrestling card.

Some of the greatest tag team feuds in the history of the company involved Beer Money Inc. Their run as a unit lasted through a big era of Impact and were voted PWI Tag Team of the Year two out of their three years together.
