10 Bold Predictions For WWE Extreme Rules

It's the one night of the year that WWE gets extreme and the company are pulling out all the stops merely weeks after WrestleMania in order for the Raw roster to recover from what was a lackluster Payback event last month.

Almost all the matches on the card for Extreme Rules are gimmick-based matches, which gives fans something different than the usual straightforward matches.

The Universal Championship is still yet to be defended since Brock Lesnar defeated Goldberg at WrestleMania to win Raw's biggest title but at least the winner of the Fatal 5-Way match go on to face Brock, so the storyline is there.

All other championships are on the line on Sunday night as Dean Ambrose defends the Intercontinental Championship against The Miz, Alexa Bliss defends the Raw Women's Championship against Bayley, and The Hardy Boyz put their Raw Tag Team Championships on the line against former Champions Cesaro and Sheamus after the Extreme Duo decided that they wanted to defend inside a Steel Cage match.

It looks set to be an epic night of entertainment with six matches officially announced and more expected to be added in the coming days, but here are 10 of the boldest predictions for Sunday's extreme event.

10. Bayley Will Finally Get Extreme

via wwe.com

Ever since Alexa Bliss made the switch over to Raw she has become one of the hottest commodities on the brand. Winning the Raw Women's Championship on her first attempt was a great plan for WWE and it has allowed Alexa to prove that she is much better as champion than Bayley was.

The entire build to this match has seen Alexa attack Bayley with a kendo stick and show that she can get extreme, but Bayley can't. This means that Bayley has to be the one to climb up and retrieve the kendo stick to use on Alexa Bliss. Obviously, picking up the stick doesn't mean that the match ends but it does mean that Bayley can finally extract her revenge on Alexa.

9. Maryse Will Become Involved in The Miz' Match

via wwe.com

For some reason, Kurt Angle agreed to add the stipulation to The Miz' Extreme Rules match with Dean Ambrose that if Ambrose is disqualified then The Miz wins the title. This means that The Miz could easily come up with a plan that would see his wife become involved and attack The Miz instead to then force the disqualification.

This feud stretches all the way back to when The Miz and Ambrose were on SmackDown and it's reached the point now where the WWE Universe just want it to end so that both men can move on to something better. Maryse will be at ringside anyway and it seems that most of the time she is there in a pointless capacity. So at least this way there is a reason to bring her out.

8. WWE Will Be Forced To Add Filler Matches

via wwe.com

Titus O'Neil, Apollo Crews, and Kalisto have something of a problem with each other right now, so they could be the additional match that could be added to Extreme Rules. Especially since WWE have failed to announce a match for the Kick-Off Show on Sunday night.

Six matches for three and a half hours just doesn't seem like enough, so it's obvious that the company will be adding more matches in the coming days. The main event could be a lengthy affair, but there still needs to be much more action to make up the time that WWE needs the show to run for.

7. The Hardy Boyz Will Retain Their Tag Team Championships

via wwe.com

Matt and Jeff Hardy made their shock return at WrestleMania 33 just under two months ago. They have since become firm fan favourites again as they have battled Cesaro and Sheamus many times over the past few weeks.

Cesaro and Sheamus were always an unlikely duo and as Tag Team Champions. They didn't really do very much, and this should be the final match between these two teams. If The Hardys come out on top then at least then they can move on to a match against The Club or another team since the past two months of these two teams facing off has been way more than enough for the WWE Universe.

 6. Austin Aries Will Finally Lift The Cruiserweight Championship

via wwe.com

The Submission match between Neville and Austin Aries has to be one of the most anticipated matches of the night as The Rings of Saturn go up against The Last Chancery. Aries has all of the momentum heading into their showdown after forcing Neville to tap on Monday night.

These two men have been in a heated feud now for a number of months after facing off at WrestleMania and Payback so you have to feel that this is Austin's final chance to lift the championship and he will take full advantage of it. Neville has reigned his division and proved he is The King of The Cruiserweights so now it's time for him to chase the title instead.

5. Sasha Banks and Rich Swann Will Come Out On Top

via wwe.com

Sasha Banks seems to have slipped down the ranks on Monday Night Raw in recent weeks and finds herself in the middle of a 205 Live feud heading into Extreme Rules. Sasha and Alicia Fox have well-documented problems while Noam Dar and Rich Swann have been included in these issues.

Sasha is a former Raw Women's Champion, and it makes no sense for her to be pinned by Alicia again. So the only logical outcome would be for Sasha and Rich to pick up the win to allow Sasha to step back out of a feud that has been created based on jealousy, apparently?

4. Alexa Bliss Will Retain The Women's Championship

via wwe.com

The women on Monday Night Raw are doing some exciting things right now and a Kendo Stick on a Pole match does seem a little different. But even if Bayley does manage to use the kendo stick, Alexa will definitely have something up her sleeve.

If Alexa uses a weapon then she will get disqualified and will retain her championship. It makes sense for her to take that way out if Bayley does go extreme and hit her with a kendo stick. The Raw Women's Championship has changed hands a lot over the past few months and Alexa is red hot right now, so why would WWE take the title away from her right now? The feud between Alexa and Nia has a lot of potential too if WWE allows it to get that far.

3. The Miz Will Win The Intercontinental Championship

via wwe.com

Dean Ambrose hasn't done a lot with the Intercontinental Championship in the time that he has held it. And with rumours about the backstage reaction to The Lunatic Fringe, it seems likely that there will be a switch in holder on Sunday night.

All the odds are stacked in The Miz' favour. These matches usually see the face come out on top against all the odds, but it seems unlikely since Dean hasn't made any friends since moving over to Raw and The Mz already has a great deciding presence at ringside. Miz could move on to a bigger rivalry with the title in the absence of the Universal Champion while Ambrose is then free to step into a rivalry that would suit him a lot better.

2. Enzo Amore Will Be Attacked Again

via wwe.com

For the past two weeks, the WWE Universe has seen Enzo Amore attacked backstage while Big Cass and Kurt Angle hang around and look for clues. The WWE Universe thought that The Revival could be the ones behind it until it was brought to light this past week and they seemingly had nothing to do with it.

There are rumours that Big Cass is behind the entire thing and it is leading to a break-up of the group. But in the near future, Enzo is going to keep getting attacked until the person who is doing it is found. So we have another attack to look forward to on Sunday night, presumably?

1. Finn Balor Will Become #1 Contender

via wwe.com

The Fatal 5-Waymatch between Samoa Joe, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, Finn Balor, and Bray Wyatt headlines the show on Sunday night and will decide the next challenger for Brock Lesnar's Universal Championship.

Right now, Finn Balor could be the man who comes out on top looking at the build up so far and the fact that WWE has planted all the seeds. Finn doesn't need to defeat Brock, he just needs to cash in the rematch that he never had and make Brock look strong ahead of what is rumoured to be a WrestleMania 34 showdown between Lesnar and Reigns. Right now Roman doesn't have a feud moving forward now that Braun Strowman is out for a few more months but it could be too soon to pull the trigger for Roman. Fans cheered when he defeated Rollins on Monday night and a much slower approach to his push could help him. Someone like Balor needs to step up to Brock because he lost a lot of pace in his feud with Goldberg and many fans see him as a human being again. Finn will prove that Brock is still The Beast Incarnate, which is exactly what WWE needs.
