WWE and the indie wrestling scene have a few stark differences from the schedule to the production style. Unlike most indie promotions, WWE doesn’t allow intergender wrestling. Exceptions to that rule have been few and far between, namely Chyna as Intercontinental Champion.

Recently, they’ve expanded the women’s division and put it on level footing with the men’s division, but it's still very much separate. The men and women rarely interact in any serious way these days, and they most certainly do not lock up in direct competition.

On the issue of intergender wrestling, Triple H has stated, “Women WWE superstars don’t need a man to make them successful.” While that might be true, many fans and wrestlers believe intergender wrestling is the ultimate display of equality. WWE might not be ready to pull the trigger, but when they are, these 10 matches would be an excellent place to start.

10. Seth Rollins vs. Becky Lynch

These two might be itching for a fight if social media is any indication. One time Becky Lynch started referring to herself as "The Man." Afterward, Seth Rollins, who also called himself "The Man," started teasing her on Twitter.

Lynch was quick to suggest they take their issue to the ring and find out once and for all who The Man really is. The back and forth has been exceedingly entertaining, with Lynch landing a particularly nasty line about Rollins’ “adorable little flame trunks.” Beyond their Twitter feud, though, the pair seem to have quite a bit of natural chemistry. Their mic skills are well matched, as well as their fighting styles. A real feud between the two would be, well, fire.

9. The Miz vs. Charlotte

Charlotte Flair may be the female superstar who is most capable of landing an intergender match in today’s WWE environment. Her muscular stature and pedigree make a good case for her to take on a male champion.

Among the best options for her opponent, The Miz has to be on the top of the list. Don’t forget, in 2013 Ric Flair managed The Miz and passed along the Figure 4, which Miz still uses today. But do you know what’s twice as good as Figure 4? A Figure 8. Even if the feud is only about this one move, it would be incredibly compelling to see if Charlotte’s move is really twice as good as the original. When she eventually locks in and make The Miz tap out, the crowd will be on their feet.

8. Candice LeRae vs Kevin Owens

Out of every woman on this list, Candice LeRae is by far the most prepared to take on an intergender match. She’s been doing it for most of her career. One of her biggest feuds was against a man named Kevin Steen, or as we now know him, Kevin Ownes.

Surprisingly, WWE didn’t shy away from this history, even though LeRae would not be able to continue that legacy. LeRae is one of the most unlikely intergender wrestling specialists since she stands at about 5-foot-2. Owens, on the other hand, is a larger competitor — known for flinging his bodyweight at his opponents.

On paper, LeRae doesn’t stand a chance, but we know from her past matches that she can make it look good. It helps that Owens is a solid seller and doesn’t seem to be embarrassed to sell for a woman. For the diehard wrestling fans, this dream rematch would be a huge moment.

7. Ronda Rousey vs. Velveteen Dream

There are few superstars today who have as much potential as Velveteen Dream. He is a truly remarkable performer and an artist when it comes to ring psychology. Ronda Rousey probably has the advantage from a physical standpoint, as we’ve seen her go up against a much larger Triple-H. Dream, on the other hand, has a huge advantage mentally.

Rousey has shown that her greatest weakness is that it’s pretty easy to get inside her head. Dream would have a ball messing with Rousey throughout their feud. Seeing how easy it is to get her riled up, it would be hugely entertaining.

Oh, and Dream making his entrance dressed as Rowdy Roddy Piper? Beautiful.

6. Sami Zayn vs. Dakota Kai

Calling all members of Team Kick! It’s not exactly unique to use a kick as a signature or finishing move, but these are two of the most effective out there.

Sami Zayn has the Helluva Kick. Dakota Kai has the TTYL, Kaio Kick, Scorpion Kick, oh and the Switchblade Kick. She just really likes to kick.

Much like the competition between The Miz and Charlotte, this match would be built about whose kick gets the job done. Unlike that match, however, these two are on much more even footing. Both are some of the best technical wrestlers WWE employs and it would be interesting to see how they put together a match.

5. Sasha Banks vs. Dolph Ziggler

Speaking of the best wrestlers: Sasha Banks and Dolph Ziggler often give themselves that moniker. Both these two are classic workhorses who haven’t gotten the opportunity to shine in the way fans think they should. Although Banks is a five-time women’s champion, she has never once defended the Raw Women’s Title.

Ziggler, meanwhile, has been a victim of bad timing, dealing with an injury right as they were about to push him. Fans are torn when it comes to Ziggler as a main event competitor, but no one questions his ability in the ring. They could easily build a story around that common experience and would likely put on one of the best one-on-one matches.

4. Bayley vs. Finn Bálor

You know how the saying goes, you don’t hit anyone as hard as you hit your best friend.

Bayley and Finn Bálor are two of WWE’s closest friends, as we saw when they teamed up in the Mixed Match Challenge. When watching them interact in the ring or backstage, it’s obvious that they love being around each other and that they’re having a blast with the MMC. It would be fun to see that turned on its head with Bálor and Bayley on opposite sides of the ring. They know each other so well and their chemistry will be a great asset in the ring.

Bálor might be one of the best male superstars to be in an intergender match because although he is a powerful wrestler, he’s a smaller guy at 5-foot-8. Frankly, Bayley can take him.

3. Nia Jax vs. Lio Rush

Has there ever been a WWE competitor more insufferable than Lio Rush? For being an annoying heel, he’s doing a great job. So good, in fact, we would love to watch him get punched in the face. Nia Jax, the newly dubbed "Facebreaker," is probably the best to do just that.

It would be a rare case on this list where the woman is far more physically dominating than the man. Rush is a cruiserweight size and known for his flippy style, compared to Jax’s all-power moveset.

The one hiccup is that Jax is also a heel, and a very unpopular one at the moment. Heel vs. heel matches are difficult because the crowd inevitably turns their face at one of them as a result.

Who would get cheered?

2. Big E vs. Peyton Royce

As far as we’re concerned, comedic timing is underappreciated in wrestling. It’s undoubtedly part of what has made the New Day so effective for so long. The IIconics are also underappreciated for their comedic timing and entertainment value.

Out of all three of the New Day members, Big E is probably the best when it comes to the comedy stuff; he really seems to buy into it all. Peyton Royce is probably the better wrestler when it comes to the IIconics and she would work well with Big E’s comedy.

Any match with either of them is inevitably a fun time, so pitting them against each other would lead to a lot of iconic moments (no pun intended).

1. Daniel Bryan vs. Asuka

WWE isn’t exactly known for stiff workers, but Daniel Bryan and Asuka are two notable exceptions. While their movesets are different, their hard-hitting approaches are exactly the same. Bryan would probably jump at the opportunity to do something different. Similarly, Asuka has some of the stiffest strikes in the entire business but is very capable of working safely. That’s so important given Bryan’s history with concussions.

On top of the intensity that would drive the match, both can also bring a real sense of playfulness to it. Some of what makes Asuka so scary is the fact that she can kick her opponent’s head off with a giant smile on her face. Bryan also has a silly side that comes out anytime he interacts with someone like her. It would be a hard-hitting but incredibly fun match at the same time.
