Retirement matches oftentimes provide wrestling fans with lasting memories, as it closes a chapter on a wrestler's career. When these matches are done right, they can provide the perfect opportunity for a wrestler to bow out. People get the chance to go over and benefit from retiring someone, while the talent who is calling it a day can do so with a lot of focus and attention, which is always deserved after a great career.

There are plenty of wrestlers who are big enough names to deserve a clear retirement match. And if WWE puts in the right amount of effort, they will be able to put together the perfect retirement match for their top stars, which could lead to some epic storylines.

10 The Rock (Vs. Roman Reigns)

While The Rock isn't a full-time talent anymore, he has never officially retired from professional wrestling, and because of that, there is major storyline potential for The Great One's last bow. The Rock is one of the biggest names of all time and giving him a retirement storyline could be a huge deal.

Right now it is quite obvious that him facing Roman Reigns would be the perfect way for The Rock to go out. The Bloodline storyline is set up so perfectly for The Tribal Chief to destroy The People's Champion and truly take his place as the biggest name in the family.

9 Goldberg (Vs. Riddle)

Goldberg has had a legendary career in both WWE and WCW, but there is no doubt that he is coming towards the end of the road. A retirement match would certainly have the potential to put someone over, and Riddle would be the ideal person for that spot.

Riddle has made it very clear that he wants to face Goldberg and it is public knowledge that the two men do not like each other. Because of that, there would be some genuine intensity in this storyline that fans could really latch onto and enjoy. A Riddle victory would take The Ultimate Bro to the next level.

8 Brock Lesnar (Bron Breakker)

While it is still very early on in Bron Breakker's career for him to be pushed to retire Brock Lesnar, the fact is that the Beast is still likely a few years away from that being an option. Because of that, WWE has plenty of time to promote Breakker to being the next big thing.

He is someone that WWE clearly has high hopes for, considering how he has been booked. If the company keeps Bron on the path he has been on, then the timing could work out perfectly for when he collides with The Mayor of Suplex City.

7 John Cena (Randy Orton)

Sometimes a wrestler having a retirement match can work for putting somebody young over to establish them as a new star. However, there are other times when it is best to simply tell a good story, and for John Cena, the person to retire him should be Randy Orton.

Cena and Orton have been major rivals throughout their careers, having gone back and forth countless times, trading world championships in the process. Allowing Orton to be the man to win the rivalry would be fitting and well deserved for the man who has always been a full-time wrestler and is technically more skilled inside the ring than Cena. Plus, he could no doubt have a great heel run off the back of this.

6 Edge (Pete Dunne)

Pete Dunne is one of the most exciting wrestlers that is coming up the ranks in WWE and it is clear that he is going to be a big star for a long time to come. Dunne is best as a heel and having him retire Edge would be a brilliant way of establishing him on the main roster.

The Bruiserweight is someone who really doesn't care about others and that is what would make him a great option to retire somebody. Edge would likely want to put someone over in his final outing, and he and Dunne could really have a fantastic match together.

5 MVP (Bobby Lashley)

Wrestlers turning on their managers is not something new in this industry, and that is why Bobby Lashley could end up being the person who retired MVP. They have worked well together so far, but if MVP ever considers retiring from the business, then Lashley could work as the man to end his career.

Lashley has a long history with MVP, and he may be the wrestler who's trusted with Montel Vontavious Porter's final match. The All Mighty emerging victorious would just further establish him as a top heel, and doing that is never a bad thing.

4 Samoa Joe (AJ Styles)

Samoa Joe is clearly nearing the end of his career, with injuries having taken their toll. Because of that, the company might be thinking about a retirement match for him, and AJ Styles would be perfect for that spot.

The two men have a huge history together both in and out of WWE, and it could be a marquee match to put on at a TakeOver as a one-off to draw attention to the product. They could put together a great match and allow Joe to go out as a top-tier talent.

3 Dolph Ziggler (LA Knight)

Dolph Ziggler has done everything there is to possibly do in wrestling at this point, which is why a retirement situation might not be that far away. When it comes to finding somebody who could benefit from that, there are few better options than LA Knight.

He might be in NXT 2.0 right now, but it is clear he has all the abilities to be a main roster player. He's an excellent talker and somebody who can work a great match, and taking a similar position to Ziggler would be fitting for him.

2 Randy Orton (Austin Theory)

Randy Orton might be showing no signs of slowing down just yet, but he is certainly closer to retirement than the start of his career. Right now, one of the best upcoming heels in the business is Austin Theory, a wrestler who really has all the tools to be a major star in the company.

Theory has everything that WWE could possibly want to be a big name in wrestling, from the look to the promos and most importantly, the in-ring ability. Seeing a young upcoming arrogant heel defeat somebody who used to be that way himself would be a fitting way for The Viper to bow out.

1 Rey Mysterio (Santos Escobar)

While a lot of people think that Dominik Mysterio could be the man to retire his father, WWE would be smarter keeping them together moving forwards. On top of that, Santos Escobar would be a much smarter option to end Rey Mysterio's career.

Santos has a huge upside and having Mysterio put him over would be a great way of establishing him. The story could be that he doesn't care for masks and their heritage.
