WWE's first-ever Hell In A Cell PPV took place back in 2009, and featured a stacked card filled with wrestlers who now find themselves as Hall Of Famers, or people who will be inducted in the future. With three matches inside the steel structure, and several title bouts as well, there was plenty for fans to enjoy.

Since that point, those involved in that show find themselves in completely different places. Many of them are now retired, some are thriving outside of wrestling, while some are still in the business, working for a variety of promotions, which shows how much can change over time.

10 CM Punk

The 2009 Hell In A Cell PPV wasn't a great night for CM Punk, as he found himself in the opening match losing his World Heavyweight Championship. He competed against The Undertaker, and ended up being squashed in one of the most one-sided Hell In A Cell matches of all time.

After many years away from wrestling, Punk recently got back into the ring with AEW. He is now one of the top stars in the business again, being involved in the main event scene for WWE's biggest competition.

9 Mickie James

There was only one women's match at Hell In A Cell on the original PPV, and that was won by Mickie James. She defended the Divas Championship successfully against Alicia Fox, and still to this day she can be found inside the ring putting on great matches regularly.

However, that isn't with WWE, as she was controversially released by the company due to the trash bag incident. Instead, James is back with Impact Wrestling, which is where she has spent the majority of her career.

8 Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho is one of the biggest names in WWE history, and at the first Hell In A Cell PPV he competed in a match for the Unified Tag Team Championships. He and Big Show were able to defend the titles successfully, and now both of those men find themselves working for AEW.

Seeing Jericho work for the competition is something that a lot of people never thought would have happened back in 2009. But not only did he join AEW, but he was also the face of the company at the start, and the first World Champion. Right now though, he is leading his faction which is tapping into WWE, as they call themselves sports entertainers.

7 Batista

Batista as Drax

Batista was on the other side of the ring from Chris Jericho that night on the losing side, as he teamed up with Rey Mysterio, who he ended up feuding with. They were an enjoyable tag team, but that isn't how Batista will be remembered, as he was such a big singles star.

Batista's in-ring career officially came to an end at WrestleMania 35, with his final match being against Triple H. Nowadays he focuses on his acting, with Batista having just wrapped up on the third Guardians Of The Galaxy movie, which he says will be his last with Marvel.

6 Randy Orton

RK-Bro Raw Tag Team Champions Cropped

Randy Orton has been one of the most consistent wrestlers of all time, so it is no surprise he was on the Hell In A Cell card back in 2009. The Viper competed inside the steel structure against his biggest rival, John Cena, and he managed to capture the WWE Championship in that one.

Orton is still competing in WWE at the highest level right now, showcasing the fun side of his personality. Rather than being a top heel, Orton is out cracking jokes, and smiling alongside his RK-Bro tag team partner, Riddle.

5 John Cena

John Cena as Peacemaker

John Cena was on the losing end against Randy Orton that night, but it was still one of the big featured matches on the show. That was a spot Cena always found himself in, but nowadays it is rare that he competes. Cena is not retired, but he only works part-time at this point, as his focus is on acting.

Cena's recent project saw him as the leading name on the Peacemaker television show, which was a huge role for him. He's going to continue thriving in that world, while tapping back into wrestling when he gets the opportunity.

4 Shawn Michaels

Shawn Michaels NXT

Shawn Michaels was in the main event of the first Hell In A Cell PPV as D-Generation X teamed up against Legacy inside the structure. It was a great match, and a major storyline at the time, but nowadays the Heartbreak Kid gives back to the business behind the scenes, rather than inside the ring.

HBK works in NXT, where he helps produce shows, working with the younger talent to make them better wrestlers. It is a huge part of his life right now, with a lot of the stars that have come from that setup praising Michaels for his work.

3 The Undertaker

The Undertaker is inducted to the HOF

The Undertaker opened the original Hell In A Cell PPV, which was a fitting situation due to his history with the stipulation. He stepped inside the steel structure, and left as the World Heavyweight Champion, which is a title that he has been linked with throughout his run.

Nowadays the Deadman is gone from the wrestling world, having retired after his Boneyard match against AJ Styles at WrestleMania 36. But in 2022, The Undertaker took his rightful place inside WWE's Hall Of Fame with a headline induction, and one of the greatest speeches of all time.

2 Jack Swagger

At Hell In A Cell, Jack Swagger was competing in a triple threat match for the United States Championship against Kofi Kingston and The Miz. Both of those men still find themselves as loyal WWE Superstars who have been to the mountain top since, while Swagger is now gone from the company.

Swagger did manage to become a World Champion in WWE, but he was then let go. Nowadays, fans can find him working as Jake Hager on the AEW roster. He has been a featured talent on the show since he debuted, and right now he is involved in the Jericho Appreciation Society.

1 Triple H

Triple H WrestleMania 38 Cropped

Triple H was in the main event of Hell In A Cell back in 2009, which was a spot he often found himself over the years. Unfortunately, his career has recently come to an end, with the Game retiring during WrestleMania 38 weekend. Because of a health issue, Triple H has had to walk away from competing inside the ring.

He officially left his boots in the squared circle to wrap up one of the greatest careers in the history of the wrestling business. He is still connected to wrestling though, as he finds himself working behind the scenes as the COO of the company.
