WWE's Women's Division has been shaken up quite a bit over the past few days with women from SmackDown heading over to Raw and some women from Raw heading over to SmackDown.
The likes of Mickie James, Alexa Bliss, and even Maryse all made the switch over to Raw on Monday night as a way to continue to heat up one of the best female divisions in the world, while Charlotte and Lana went the other way.
Tamina also made her presence known as she returned after more than a year out of action through injury, while Nikki Bella is expected to be out of action for a number of months after re-injuring her surgically repaired neck.
As well as the women who many of the WWE Universe currently see on screen, there are also women behind the scenes who WWE have re-signed as ambassadors much like Kelly Kelly and Eve Torres. Both women are former Divas Champions but WWE has decided to bring them back to the company at a non-competitive level.
Wrestling isn't the only thing that many of these women have in common, there are many connections between them that the WWE Universe are unaware of, and here are just 15 examples.
15 Alexa, Charlotte And Sasha Were All Part Of WrestleMania XXX
WrestleMania XXX is remembered as 'YestleMania' because of Daniel Bryan's historic victory, but also for the fact that AJ Lee defended her Divas Championship against every female on WWE's main roster at that time.
This was more than a year before Charlotte Flair, Sasha Banks, and Becky Lynch were called up to the main roster and more than two years before Alexa Bliss was drafted to SmackDown. but Alexa, Charlotte, and Sasha still played a role in making WrestleMania as memorable as it is. All three women were made part of Triple H's epic entrance on his way to face Daniel Bryan. All three women were featured in the WWE 24 show that was screened on the WWE Network not long after and talked about how proud they were to be part of such a memorable show.
14 Naomi, Nikki Bella, And Alicia Fox Were All Involved In The Third Season Of NXT
NXT hasn't always been the phenomenon that the WWE Universe now tunes into watch on a Wednesday night. Before NXT took its current format it was more of a competition based show that brought in rookies and paired them up with WWE Superstars who were known as 'pros' with the winner being given the chance to sign for WWE.
The likes of AJ Lee, Maxine, Kaitlyn, and Naomi all made their WWE debut as part of this version of NXT. Alicia Fox, Vickie Guerrero, and The Bella Twins were all used as the professionals on the show who were helping their contestant win. Kaitlyn was crowned the winner of the contest in the end, before many of the women then made their main roster debuts and have since left the company.
13 Both Carmella And Liv Morgan Were Competitive Cheerleaders Before WWE
Being a WWE Superstar is like being a complete athlete. There has to have been some athletic style background in order for these stars to be able to take on the sheer amount of training they need to make it in the WWE.
Many women come to WWE from a dance background or after they have been on the Independent Circuit for a few years, but Carmella and NXT Superstar Liv Morgan had a different kind of beginning to their career in the spotlight. Carmella began her cheerleading career with the New England Patriots for three seasons before she made the switch to the Los Angeles Lakers dance team, while Liv also worked as a competitive cheerleader when she was younger, before becoming involved in backyard wrestling with her siblings.
12 Paige And Summer Rae Debuted In FCW At The Same Time
Paige and Summer Rae are currently both on hiatus from WWE after suffering injuries and are both members of the Raw roster. While both Summer Rae and Paige are known as two stars that have come through the ranks in NXT to make it on the main roster, what isn't as well-known is the fact that both women made their FCW debut together.
Summer Rae decided to try and include herself in the feud between Seth Rollins and Brad Maddox at the time. This was her way of making her debut, but she was neutralized by Brad's own friend who was unveiled as Paige. The women then entered a feud together and their WWE careers have been entwined ever since. To the point where they are currently both injured at the same time.
11 Mickie James And Nikki Bella Have Dated John Cena
At WrestleMania 33 John Cena and Nikki Bella created their own WrestleMania moment when Cena proposed to Nikki in front of 75,000 fans. Their story had been going on since 2013 as part of Total Divas and finally, the WWE Universe got the payoff they were hoping for.
What the WWE Universe probably doesn't remember is the fact that Mickie James, who was on the SmackDown brand with Nikki and John for the past few months was also in a relationship with Cena for a while. Cena was married at the time and Mickie was engaged to Kenny Dykstra but that didn't stop the duo from getting together. They then had to be separated by WWE officials and put on separate brands after the carnage that their affair had created.
10 Carmella, Lana, And Naomi Were All Dancers Before Wrestlers
Carmella, Lana, and Naomi have all have differing fortunes over the past few years, with Lana and Summer mostly being used as valets or managers and Naomi recently winning the SmackDown Women's Championship.
Lana looks set to go on a decent singles run of her own on SmackDown Live in the near future, and it seems as though all the former dancers have been placed on the Tuesday night show. Lana has been a professional dancer and actress for the past few years, while Carmella and Naomi have been employed as backing dancers for some of the biggest musical artists in the world including Rihanna and Flo Rida. Lana has worked as a backing dancer for Pink, Usher, and Akon in the past, before she made the switch over to wrestling.
9 Both Paige And Charlotte Have Dated Alberto Del Rio
It was recently announced that Paige and Alberto Del Rio had finally married after just seven months of dating. The couple officially tied the knot on March 29th, following the hacking scandal that Paige was swept up in at that time.
Even though Paige and Del Rio's relationship was one that was heavily scrutinized, it was one that the media followed closely. This isn't the only relationship that Del Rio has been involved in since he made his WWE return in October 2015. It has been reported that former Raw Women's Champion Charlotte and Del Rio were in a 'friends with benefits' kind of relationship for months before Paige and Del Rio made their relationship public, which made things pretty awkward between Charlotte and Paige for months before Paige was suspended for violating WWE's Wellness Policy in August 2016.
8 Charlotte, Carmella, and Tamina Are All Second Generation Wrestlers
Given the progress that WWE's Women's Division has made over the past few years, it comes as no surprise that there are now several second generation female wrestlers who are integrated into the WWE product.
The likes of Tamina and Charlotte have famous fathers that many of the WWE Universe remember, while Carmella's father worked for WWE in the 1990s as a jobber. Carmella's father wasn't as well known as Ric Flair and Jimmy Snuka, but thanks to Paul Van Dale, Carmella is also a second generation Superstar. Natalya is WWE's first ever female third-generation Superstar and comes from one of the most famous wrestling families in the world. Something that WWE take full advantage of when using Natalya on WWE TV. The same way WWE use the fact that Charlotte is Ric Flair's daughter all the time.
7 Kelly Kelly And JoJo Have Dated Randy Orton
Randy Orton has been in WWE now for more than 15 years and over those years he has racked up quite an impressive dating resume. Orton is currently married to Kim Marie Kessler and between them, they have five children. But before he married Kim, Orton dated two very different WWE Divas.
Back in 2009 while Orton was still married to Samantha Speno he was rumoured to have dated Kelly Kelly. As a former Divas Champion, Kelly was linked to a lot of men in WWE during her time in the company and has recently resigned as an ambassador. After his divorce was finalized, Orton went on to date WWE ring announcer and former Total Diva JoJo Offerman. JoJo was just 19-years-old at the time and Orton was almost double her age, which saw many WWE employees raise their eyebrows at their romance.
6 Becky Lynch Once Managed Paige
Becky Lynch and Paige are another two female wrestlers who have been entwined throughout their careers. Over the past few years, they have come through the ranks in NXT together and were even put together as part of PCB.
This isn't where the duo first crossed paths though. Back when Paige was working on the Independent Circuit she and Becky were both working for Shimmer at the same time and Becky suffered an injury. This injury forced her to sit on the sidelines for a while, until she was offered the chance to manage the team of Paige and her mother Saraya. The girls didn't know that their careers would mirror each other for the next few years, but it's interesting to see how far back these two go when it comes to their life before they signed for WWE.
5 Eva Marie and JoJo Both Won The 2013 Diva Search
Eva Marie and JoJo burst onto the WWE scene back in 2013 when they were made a part of the E! Reality Show Total Divas. What is unknown about them though is that they actually won the chance to be part of the show when they were announced as the winners of the online 2013 Diva Search.
The likes of Devin Taylor and Lana also competed in the Diva Search but even though they were not chosen as the winners, WWE still kept them around. Many of the WWE Universe have protested that the Diva Search never actually took place, but in fact, it did. It was an online Diva Search and the winner was awarded a place on Total Divas. Eva Marie is the only one of the duo who has kept her place on the show since JoJo deciding to concentrate on wrestling training instead.
4 Both Alexa Bliss And Dana Brooke Have Competed In The Arnold Classic
Dana Brooke and Alexa Bliss are considered to be two of the strongest female wrestlers in WWE right now. Both women competed in body building competitions before they came to WWE and these have allowed the women to shape their lives the way they wanted them.
Alexa Bliss competed in the Arnold Classic because she was suffering from a life-threatening eating disorder and bodybuilding helped her to overcome it. Dana Brooke has performed at the 2013, 2015, and 2017 versions of the event with bodybuilding playing a huge role not only in her life but in her character development on WWE TV as well. Even though Alexa and Dana are two very different Superstars on WWE TV, the fact that bodybuilding has helped both women to overcome things in their life shows just how similar they really are.
3 Kelly Kelly And Alicia Fox Were Both Scouted By John Laurinaitis
Kelly Kelly came into WWE back in 2006 as part of ECW's new revamped brand and she was basically a stripper and would perform Kelly's Expose every week before she was joined by Layla and Brooke and they became Extreme Expose. Alicia Fox later came into WWE as a consultant backstage before being integrated into the WWE Divas Division, but even though these two women had different routes into WWE, they have one thing in common.
Alicia was a model who was spotted in a catalogue by John Laurinaitis and convinced to join WWE by Laurinaitis not long afterwards. Kelly Kelly was also working as a model before she was approached by Laurinaitis and he also convinced Kelly to join the company. Both women are former Divas Champions in their own right, so obviously Laurinaitis knows what he's doing.
2 Becky Lynch, Paige, and Bayley, Natalya Both Worked For Shimmer Before WWE
There are many female wrestlers who have made their mark in WWE over the past few years because they were successful on the Independent Circuit before they were scouted by WWE. There are many all-female promotions all over the world now, but America's best seems to be Shimmer.
The likes of Natalya, Paige, Becky Lynch, and Bayley all appeared for Shimmer before they were signed to WWE. They all appeared at different times with the exception of Paige and Becky who obviously worked together for a while, so the likes of Bayley and Natalya were never able to work together outside of WWE first. Shimmer has a great reputation for the female talent that they book and the fact that WWE signed these women after they appeared there, shows that they all had a certain level of ability already.
1 Nikki Bella and Maryse Were Both Part Of The 2006 Diva Search
Nikki Bella and Maryse were just given the opportunity to team up with their real life other halves and be part of WrestleMania. Whilst Nikki Bella has been working on improving in the ring over the past decade, Maryse left the company for a few years to pursue some new ideas before returning the night after WrestleMania last year.
Even though both of these women have gone down different paths over the past few years, they both joined WWE at the same time and through the same competition. The 2006 Diva Search was won by Layla El, who managed to remain with WWE for may years afterwards, but the likes of Maryse and The Bella Twins didn't even make the final eight competitors and they were still signed to WWE along with Rosa Mendes who recently announced her departure from the company after a decade.
