15 Terrible Things Going On In The WWE Locker Room Right Now

The WWE locker room isn't always a pleasant environment as these 15 things will show you.

There was a time when professional wrestling’s backstage stories were the most closely guarded secrets in entertainment. The nature of the business back then meant that nobody broke character and shared details about what was really going on. Modern times have certainly brought an end to that era. Thanks to internet reporting, podcasts, and good old social media, more and more wrestlers and WWE staff are more than happy to share details about what is happening behind the scenes. Most of the time, they’re just trying to let off a little steam. However, every now and then something a bit more...nasty emerges.

Maybe it doesn’t surprise you to hear that the backstage and locker room areas can be the source of some pretty unfortunate stories, but when the news starts to hit, it starts to paint a pretty clear picture of what it’s really like away from the spotlight. The latest round of reports includes everything from secret firings to body shaming and locker room exiles. The thing that all of these stories share is that they’re downright awful. These are the 15 nasty things going on in the WWE locker room (or backstage) right now.

15 WWE Is Preventing More Wrestlers From Hanging Out With Former/Outside Wrestlers

You may recall that former indie wrestler Jimmy Jacobs was released from WWE after he took pictures with some Bullet Club members that happened to be long-time friends. That news shocked many people - including some WWE employees - who couldn’t quite understand how such a simple gesture justified termination. As it turns out, this isn’t the only time in recent memory that WWE has acted odd policies regarding outside and former talent. Former WWE star Victoria noted that she wasn’t allowed to visit the workers backstage during a recent event. That’s something that never used to happen, and nobody is sure why WWE is being so strict in regards to current talent hanging out with outside and former performers. However, it might have something to do with the next entrant on this list…

14 More and More Wrestlers Are Getting in Trouble Over Social Media Posts

via wwe.com

Not too long ago, many WWE stars used social media to build their characters. Those posts weren’t always in kayfabe, but they were typically “work” related. In the years since those days, more and more performers have been using social media like average people do. That means vacation photos, general thoughts, and, on occasion, venting frustration. It seems that WWE is not particularly pleased about some of the information their employees share on social media. We already mentioned the Jimmy Jacobs photo, but it’s also been rumored that Emma’s release earlier this year had something to do with her expressing frustration towards WWE’s writing staff on Twitter. Other performers we’ll be talking about later, such as Enzo Amore, have also gotten into trouble over personal - and seemingly harmless - photos posted online.

13 Triple H is Battling With Vince McMahon (and Wrestling to Gain Creative Control)

via twitter.com

If you found it kind of odd that Triple H would just insert himself into the Survivor Series picture and score a huge win despite the fact that he’s not a full-time guy...well, you clearly haven’t been paying attention to WWE over the last couple of decades. Still, there was something especially odd about the timing of Triple H’s sudden “push.” Some are speculating that Triple H’s rise in on-screen time can be attributed to his ongoing creative battle with Vince McMahon. Triple H and Vince are reportedly butting heads again, and some are speculating that Triple H is putting himself into the limelight in order to be more “hands-on” with creative control and associate himself with the uptick in ratings WWE has recently enjoyed. This could even lead to Triple H defending the Universal Championship at WrestleMania.

11 Enzo Amore is Still Not Allowed in the Locker Room

Baby baby I’m #TheRealestChamp

A post shared by Enzo Amore (@real1) on

Speaking of 205 Live, it seems that WWE is starting to rely more and more on Enzo Amore to right the show’s creative ship. In their defense, Amore has managed to go from beloved babyface to despised heel quite convincingly. Some people are already comparing him to 1998 Chris Jericho in terms of promos and character. Not everyone is happy about Amore’s rise to fame, though. Actually, some people say that Amore still isn’t allowed in the locker room. In case you missed it, Enzo was kicked out of the dressing room over his questionable backstage behavior. Fairly recent reports still put him on the outside looking in. Now, it’s certainly not impossible for a wrestler to have heat with the boys and be favored by management, but how long can Amore’s push last under those conditions.

10 Nia Jax Is Being Body Shamed

via wwe.com

Nia Jax set the rumor mill on fire recently when she sent out a tweet that seemed to indicate that she was being body shamed. Now, most people probably know that Jax suffers some body shaming from online fans, but the nature of her message seemed to indicate that she was suffering from body shaming inside the women’s dressing room as well. At present, nobody has anything but rumors regarding who may have been bullying Nia Jax or what the nature of their messages towards her might have been. However, some are wondering if the problem really stops at one or two individuals. It’s been suggested that this issue might be part of a larger culture of shame within the WWE dressing rooms.

9 WWE Released a Legendary Employee and Barely Acknowledged It

via wwe.com

You might not know Jim Johnston, but we guarantee you that you’re familiar with his work. Johnston is the guy responsible for a number of great WWE themes over the years. Listing them all would be pointless, but if you’ve ever enjoyed Ultimate Warrior, Stone Cold Steve Austin, or The Undertaker’s theme song, you’ve got Johnston to thank for them. Recently, WWE quietly let Johnston go after his years of service with the company. Now, some are saying that this release wasn’t unexpected. After all, the music group CFO$ have been composing most of WWE’s themes recently. However, some people are surprised about how quiet WWE have been about the release. Johnston has been a huge contributor to WWE’s success over the years, and the company has barely acknowledged him.

8 Finn Balor Is Becoming Aggressive About His Weakened Roster Spot

via givemesport.com

Many people felt that Finn Balor was guaranteed to be a huge star. He had a great gimmick, a ton of experience, was solid in the ring, and was rapidly improving on the microphone. Since Balor’s Universal Championship win and subsequent injury, though, his career has taken a turn for the worse. To be honest, it’s not entirely clear what is going on here. However, the rumor mill suggests that Balor’s lack of a push is due to Vince McMahon’s lack of faith in Balor as a huge star. This in turn has led to Balor making some pretty aggressive tweets regarding how “over” he is. The nature of this hostility may be part of a bit of a work, but serious questions remain regarding what WWE actually plans on doing with Balor.

7 WWE May Be Risking Daniel Bryan’s Health To Keep Him Under Contract

via wwe.com

The Daniel Bryan/WWE relationship is one that fascinates most fans. At first, it seemed that WWE and Daniel Bryan would never be on the same page regarding his future. Daniel Bryan insisted that he was ready to wrestle despite his history of concussions. WWE claimed that they were protecting his long-term health by not allowing him to perform ring work. At the time, many fans begrudgingly respected WWE for their decision. Now, though, it seems they may be willing to reverse that decision in order to keep Bryan from going to the competition.

Bryan recently served as a special guest referee in the near future and it seems that WWE has been building more storylines around him on SmackDown. Would they really risk his health just to keep him under contract?

6 The Wrestlers Think Shane McMahon’s Performances Are Making Them Look Bad

via wikimedia.org

Shane McMahon’s return to WWE has been a success for the most part. The fans love him, he’s good on SmackDown, and he’s participated in some surprisingly good matches. However, not everyone is happy with Shane’s position in the company. Specifically, the full-time wrestlers are a bit upset with what Shane is allowed to get away with. Because he’s not a full-time wrestler, it’s easy for Shane McMahon to perform certain high-risk stunts in his matches. Because full-time wrestlers can’t perform those stunts, they feel like it’s too easy for Shane McMahon to steal the show from them.

Even worse, some reportedly feel like Shane’s performances are setting an unrealistic standard for the rest of the wrestlers that they simply aren’t allowed to match because of restrictions placed on certain moves.

5 John Cena’s Desire to Move on Is Making Things Awkward

via si.com

We hear you. You’ve heard every variation of “John Cena is getting ready to leave WWE” that there is. However, there is something interesting to this latest round of reports regarding Cena’s desire to leave WWE behind. First off, Cena’s status as a film star has only grown since he first starting making cameos in comedy films. Second, his recent engagement to Nikki Bella (and her time away from wrestling) certainly seems to suggest that Cena isn’t going to ever go back to a full-time WWE schedule. While Cena claims that he will always be with WWE, his desire to move on to other things and his reported frustration with WWE’s inability to find anything new for him to do are supposedly forcing WWE to plan for his inevitable departure.

4 More and More Backstage Cliques Are Forming

via cagesideseats.com

Back in the mid-90s, Shawn Michaels attracted quite a bit of controversy when he formed the infamous “Kliq.” The Kliq consisted of Shawn Michaels, Triple H, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and Sean Waltman. On-screen, they were little more than a barely referenced faction. Off-screen, though, they basically ran the show. They used the power of their individual spots to garner incredible creative control. Now, it seems that several modern-day cliques are forming in WWE’s backstage. While there are always groups of backstage friends in WWE, the modern day WWE is seemingly divided into several subgroups that include NXT performers, former ROH wrestlers, former NJPW wrestlers, WWE veterans, and more. What’s worse is that the reported power struggle between the McMahons means that each group is able to choose a boss to gain favor with.

3 The Sasha Banks/Alexa Bliss Rivalry is Only Getting Uglier

via wwe.com

Not too long ago, Sasha Banks turned some heads went she went off on what seemed to be an unscripted tirade against Alexa Bliss. Banks called Bliss’ fandom and work ethic into question. The gist of her message was that Bliss was stealing the spotlight from some of the hard working wrestlers in the company. At the time, it seemed this was just building up to a feud between the two. However, Bliss and Banks have confirmed that this beef between them is very much real. Even worse, their arguments apparently just represent a much larger argument that is tearing the WWE’s women’s division apart. There are apparently quite a few performers who feel that the wrong women wrestlers are getting all the attention.

2 Stars Are Worried About Ronda Rousey’s Arrival

via wwe.com

The rivalry between Alexa Bliss and Sasha Banks is bad now, but it’s probably only going to get worse when Ronda Rousey gets ready to make her WWE debut. In case you don’t know, Rousey is training to be a WWE wrestler and figures to make her in-ring debut sometime next year. That’s theoretically great news, but it does come with a bit of a catch. See, WWE is supposedly so high on Ronda Rousey that they’re ready to basically feed most of the roster to her in order to fuel her push. While some stars might survive the push, it seems that stars like Sasha Banks and Bayley who are already wandering around with nothing to do might have even less to do this time next year.

1 The Relationship Between the Writers and Wrestlers is Worse Than Ever

via wwe.com

Recently, The Big Show appeared on the Talk is Jericho podcast and made some frank claims regarding the company’s creative process. He was particularly hard on the company’s writers - and the people in charge of their work - who he said can’t seem to keep up with what they did two weeks ago when writing the next two weeks of programming. His on-the-record comments combined with off-the-record statements and vague rumblings on social media are starting to paint the picture that the relationship between the writers and the wrestlers is rockier than ever.

Actually, it’s starting to sound like the McMahons and other executives are trying quite hard to ensure that they’re the only bridge between the writers and the wrestlers. Needless to say, this could have a serious impact on the quality of WWE’s storytelling moving forward.
