WWE tries to keep the storylines on their show as close to real life as possible, and sometimes that means that they have to put couples together to create a certain amount of drama.

Many of these couples have fantastic chemistry and go on to become actual couples outside of WWE. The likes of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, Brie Bella and Daniel Bryan, and even The Miz and Maryse were all put together on WWE TV before they officially began dating.

WWE could be called a matchmaking company, but for every real-life couple that the company creates, there are many more that would never be together if they weren't being paid to act like they are together.

The women of WWE are some of the most beautiful in the world and many of the men they have been aligned with, would never be able to date them outside of a WWE ring. Here are 15 examples.

15 15. Enzo Amore and Lana

Let's be honest, not many people actually like Enzo Amore. With the WWE Universe he is a popular character, but when it comes to people outside of WWE, he is quite an annoying guy.

WWE came up with the storyline last year that Lana could lure Enzo to a hotel room basically to make Rusev jealous and to show him that he should have some respect for her. Enzo obviously agreed and headed over to the hotel, where it was made obvious that it was a trap and he got beaten down by Rusev and left out in the hallway. Lana and Rusev are now married in real-life, while Enzo is dating  NXT star, Liv Morgan. In reality, Enzo would never get a chance like that with a girl like Lana.

14 14. John Cena and AJ Lee

John Cena has dated his fair share of female wrestlers. But back in 2013 when AJ Lee and John Cena were in an on-screen relationship, Cena was already dating Nikki Bella, which meant that this entire fling was purely business based.

AJ Lee was also dating CM Punk and proved that she has much classier taste that many of the other women who have come through WWE before her that havw dropped to their knees at the sight of the 16-time World Champion. Cena definitely has a reputation, one which women like AJ Lee wouldn't have been happy about. She was a very smart woman and one that John Cena would have a problem trying to tame. Thankfully, CM Punk decided to marry her and break many WWE Universe hearts back in 2014.

13 13. The Great Khali and Natalya

The Great Khali was a wrecking ball who was brought into WWE to stop The Undertaker. The problem was, that after The Undertaker defeated him and WWE lost interest in booking him like a monster, he became a joke. For a while, he was aligned with Hornswoggle and Natalya.

Natalya is married to Tyson Kidd in real-life while Khali's current marital status is unknown. Khali has a problem speaking English and is so much taller than Natalya that it would cause a whole host of problems. Khali was put into a storyline that he probably didn't even understand, and he just went along with it because it meant that he was able to work with Natalya for a while. Luckily, Natalya has since been moved onto storylines that she deserves, whilst Khali has left WWE.

12 12. Ted DiBiase and Maryse

Maryse has recently made her return to WWE and partnered her real life husband The Miz, the couple is currently being pushed together on SmackDown, but a few years ago, someone in WWE had the idea that they would put Maryse and Ted Dibiase together. The couple should really have worked given their characters, but it didn't.

It wasn't a great idea from WWE, the pairing basically showed the lack of charisma that Dibiase actually had and lack of confidence. Maryse was the one who was at the forefront of the relationship most of the time, and she proved that she was way too much for Ted to handle. This is the complete opposite with her current husband The Miz, where they pair basically compliment each other when it comes to promos.

11 11. Balls Mahoney and Kelly Kelly

Kelly Kelly was just 20-years-old when she came to WWE and she was made a part of WWE's ECW brand. Kelly was a former bikini model and is still considered to be one of the most attractive female wrestlers that WWE has ever had.

The company needed a reason to take her away from the Extreme Expose group, and they decided that Balls Mahoney was the perfect reason. Balls Mahoney was much older than Kelly and he wasn't on her level when it came to looks. The couple didn't jell well at all and thankfully the company decided that the WWE Universe didn't have to be subjected to it for long. Kelly Kelly later turned her attentions to CM Punk, which made much more sense than aligning her with Balls Mahoney.

10 10. Enzo Amore and Sasha Banks

Sasha Banks is a former NXT and Raw Women's Champion. She is one of the standout stars when it comes to the future of WWE. Sasha won her first Women's Championship on Monday Night Raw last year and following this Sasha and Enzo were put together for one episode of Monday Night Raw.

It was an odd pairing, one where Enzo was made to look like something of a creepy stalker. Sasha recently admitted in an interview that she is married and that she tied the knot back in the Summer of 2016, while Enzo and Liv Morgan have been dating for the past few months. Sasha is one of the most popular and attractive female wrestlers in WWE right now. Enzo isn't anywhere near her level and was obviously punching above his weight on that episode of Raw.

9 9. Carlito and Torrie Wilson

Torrie Wilson is a former Playboy Covergirl. She is one of the most attractive female wrestlers of all time, so when she was aligned with Carlito a few years ago, the WWE Universe were well aware that this couple was mismatched. While they made a cute couple back in 2006, their relationship didn't make a lot of sense and didn't do a whole lot for either star throughout.

Carlito was a talented wrestler, whereas Torrie always lacked in-ring skill. So this relationship could have lead to something much bigger if it transferred to a real-life relationship, but it seems that Torrie was definitely considered to be out of Carlito's league. The couple didn't remain on WWE TV for very long, it seems WWE had better plans for the duo as solo competitors.

8 8. Mark Henry And Chyna

The Worlds Strongest Man and one of the strongest women in the world were put together as a couple while Chyna was part of WWE in the late 1990s. At that point, Henry was still considered to be one of the biggest threats to many WWE stars.

Chyna and Triple H were in a relationship for a number of years before Triple H and Stephanie McMahon began dating and Chyna was released from the company. Throughout her time in WWE she was referred to as 'the ninth wonder of the world' and one of the biggest fantasy women for most men. Mark Henry would never have been able to handle Chyna in the real world. Chyna became an expert on handling men, so Mark Henry would have had no chance with her.

7 7. Noam Dar and Alicia Fox

Alicia Fox was once a regular on Total Divas and her dating history includes former Intercontinental Champion Wade Barrett. Alicia has recently been aligned with both Cedric Alexander and Noam Dar over the past few months since she has become part of the 205 Live locker room. Alicia switched from Cedric to Noam when he broke up with her and she wasn't happy about it.

Alicia has proved that she usually goes for men who are higher up on WWE TV and being a former Divas Champion herself, Alicia would definitely be interested in someone who was at least a former Cruiserweight Champion. Noam's accent could also be a huge stumbling block. Hailing from Scotland, Dar has a certain pronunciation of words that could become a huge problem for him when it comes to American women.

6 6. Daniel Bryan and AJ Lee

When AJ Lee established herself on WWE's main roster she was part of one of the biggest storylines in the company when it came to the love triangle between CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, and the former Divas Champion.

AJ couldn't choose between them and decided to become the General Manager of Monday Night Raw instead. Since Bryan was once part of a Bella love triangle a few years before and had always been pitched as the weaker man by WWE, it seemed as though Punk was going to win the war. Obviously CM Punk did win in the end since he was the one who married AJ Lee back in 2014. Daniel Bryan also married back in 2014, just days after winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship, when he was wed to another former Divas Champion in Brie Bella.

5 5. Kane And Lita

Kane and Lita had one of the strangest WWE relationships of all time. It even led to a marriage between the duo. Lita has her own history when it comes to men, especially considering the WWE Universe are well aware of her relationships with both Matt Hardy and Edge, mostly because of the way they were brought to the attention of the fans.

Kane on the other hand has been married for a number of years, but that doesn't mean that he would be able to bag someone like Lita in real-life. Lita is a former Women's Champion and considered to be one of the best female wrestlers in WWE history. Lita had a lot going for her throughout her career and despite CM Punk choosing AJ Lee over her, Lita could still aim so much higher.

4 4. Tajiri and Torrie Wilson

Torrie Wilson has already been mentioned in this piece before. She had storylines with many different male stars while she was in WWE, but her relationship with Tajiri was always one of the strangest.

Torrie Wilson's real life dating history isn't as long as many other females who were in WWE at the time, but it still shows that the former Playboy Cover Girl has a type and that type will never be Tajiri. Wilson and Tajiri didn't seem like a good fit. He looked as though he mistreated Torrie and he forced her to dress like a Geisha, much to the annoyance of many of the male members of the WWE Universe. Torrie soon became bored and decided to turn against Tajiri, and instead, align herself with real-life boyfriend Billy Kidman.

3 3. Santino Marella and Maria

Maria Kanellis was brought into WWE as a backstage interviewer after she participated in the WWE Diva Search. Maria wasn't much of a wrestler, and neither was her on-screen boyfriend Santino Marella which is why these two made a good couple.

Maria and Santino were often jobbed out in quite short matches to many other superstars and divas whilst they were together. Maria and Santino were also once covered in beer when Marella decided to annoy a returning Stone Cold Steve Austin. Maria was never taken seriously in WWE, she decided to leave and move to both ROH and TNA following her stint in WWE, which is where she met her current husband Mike Bennett. Santino has also been away from WWE for a while but his current relationship status is unknown.

2 2. Chris Jericho and Trish Stratus

Trish Stratus and Chris Jericho were one of the best couples in WWE at the time. Lita and Christian were the counterparts to their relationship as both Trish and Chris' best friends. One of the best things to come out of their relationship was when they decided to break-up after the bet between Christian and Jericho was brought to light.

Jericho and Christian then took on Lita and Trish in the first ever Battle of the Sexes Tag Team match. Despite the fact that the women lost, this was still an incredible match and one that proved just how hot Trish and Lita were at that point. Trish has gone on to marry and welcome two children since she left WWE in 2006, while Chris Jericho has been married for the past 17 years.

1 1. James Ellsworth and Carmella

Carmella and James Ellsworth are a recent couple that has been put together as Carmella attempts to turn Ellsworth into a bootleg version of Enzo Amore. Carmella has been helping Ellsworth in many of his matches and the couple seem to be working well as a team.

James Ellsworth is the Superstar who is lucky to be in WWE in the first place. He's a person who was billed as a man who was able to live his dream and he's living many men's fantasy by being able to work with Carmella. In reality, Carmella is dating Big Cass who is currently over on Raw while Ellsworth is actually married. The couple have been together for a while on WWE TV but it seems as though Carmella could become annoyed with Ellsworth soon enough and decide to walk away from her new boyfriend.
