No one is perfect in the world, and in the world of wrestling it is no different. When our favorite wrestlers are on top of the world with championship gold it is hard to remember that they are just regular people with a cool job. They make mistakes and then the law gets involved.
The top stars all the way to the bottom of the roster there have been Superstars that have been put behind bars. Most of the time it has to do with driving drunk behind the wheel. Even Hall Of Fame members were not exempt from old Johnny Law.
When a WWE Superstar gets arrested it is wide spread news. It can affect some wrestlers careers. It can also change the way those Superstars lives their lives. With the recent events surrounding Alberto Del Rio and his girlfriend, WWE Superstar Paige (at this time it is just an investigation but only time will tell if anyone will be arrested for the incident) it is time to look back and see other Superstars who have had run ins with the law.
15. Kurt Angle
The man who won Olympic gold with a broke freaking neck. In the most recent WWE 24 Angle admitted to having a drug problem. Painkillers and alcohol were his vice. It led him down a very destructive road in 2014. Angle was on a path that many wrestlers have found themselves on. Even claiming that one night he took over 25 painkillers and hoped he didn’t wake up in the morning. In 2014, Angle was arrest four times in a total of six months, all alcohol related. He was arrested for driving under the influence. It was at this final time he decided to enter rehab and end his destructive path. In 2017 he returned to WWE and was inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame.
14. Scott Hall
Probably one of the most known wrestlers to be linked to arrest is “The Bad Guy,” Scott Hall has had problems with alcohol and drugs. Scott Hall was one of the most popular and well known wrestlers in the ’90s. He was a big star for both WWE and WCW. He was on a documentary for ESPN:60 and he admitted to taking prescription drugs, cocaine, painkillers and alcohol. Hall would show up to independent wrestling events and wouldn’t be able to walk to the ring on his own. He was arrested in 2012 for choking his girlfriend while he was drunk. Since that last arrest in 2012 Hall has been away from the law and has been inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2014.
13. Kevin Nash
“Big Daddy Cool” Diesel was of the hottest names in wrestling in the mid ’90s. From the former World Wrestling Federation to World Championship Wresting, Nash gave WCW life at a time where it was about to fold and leave the wrestling game. Nash went to WCW with Scott Hall they made WCW must see television. They dominated WWE in the ratings. In 2014, Kevin Nash was once again in the headlines but not for wrestling. Police were called to Nash’s house and was arrested in 2014 for battery his son. Nash said that his son was the one that started the fight but the police saw him as the aggressor. Nash and his son were held without bail. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2015.
12. Brock Lesner
The current WWE Universal Champion might have climbed every mountain in the WWE and UFC for that matter. The former UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar was unstoppable in the octagon. Everyone makes mistakes when they are young and Lesner is no exception. Brock came back to the WWE in 2012 and he was back at the top just like when he left. He has had the WWE Universal Championship and will currently defend it at this years SummerSlam. Lesnar has always been a huge star in Sports Entertainment this was not his greatest moment. He was arrested in 2001 in Kentucky for having a large amount of illegal steroids. Lesner was charged for trafficking in controlled substances but it was dropped after the further investigating found out they were not steroids after all.
11. Booker T
The Houston native Booker T had trouble in his early life and bad things tend to follow those that are down and out. Booker T is a Hall of Fame wrestler and is one of the only WWE wrestlers that got their arrested put into a WWE story line. When Booker T was facing Triple H in 2003, they brought in the secret that Booker had a checkered past and Triple H told the story of what happened. In 1987, Booker T committed robberies and was caught and plead guilty. Booker served 19 months in prison. WWE used this in Booker T and Triple H’s WrestleMania XXIX program. It was widely successful even though Booker T would lose to Triple H at the show of the immortals. It didn’t make sense for Triple H to bury Booker T and it should have been Booker’s moment to shine at WrestleMania.
10. Eddie Guerrero
Eddie Guerrero is one of the most technical wrestlers in history. Guerrero was a bad guy but also a wrestler that everyone can get behind. He won his first WWE Championship in 2004 against Brock Lesner. He passed away in 2005 but his legacy was that of a wrestler people admired and respected. His death was a huge lose for wrestling history because he was really getting started even for being an older veteran. Rumor has it that he was suppose to get into a program with Shawn Michaels for WrestleMania 22 but he passed away before anything could get started. He was arrested in 2001 for driving over the influence. Guerrero was a mid-card wrestler at the time but his work in the ring and on the mic got the fans behind Eddie. Guerrero is missed not only by his family but by any wrestling fan. He is a Hall of Famer and deserves that honor.
9. Ric Flair
Ric Flair is the greatest wrestler in the history of the sport. “The Dirtiest Player in the Game” has had a life full of fun on the bad side of the law. The limousine riding, jet flying son of a gun lived the life that he said in his legendary promos. That means that the law was right behind him on that rock star roller coaster ride. The 16-time World Champion has a long list of run ins with the law. His latest arrest was in 2016, he was detained in a Boston airport. Flair was said to be drunk and being irate on in the airport. The Hall of Famer might never stop styling and profiling. In 2017, Flair is bigger than ever. The world of sports and pop culture can’t get enough of Ric Flair.
8. Jeff Hardy
Jeff Hardy is probably know as the wrestler most associated with drug use in wresting. Hardy and his high flying moves and death-defying spots caused pain and years of damage to Hardy. It is sad to see this man that had everything at his finger tips slip away from him just because he couldn’t stop doing drugs. The pain would force him to use drugs over his career. Hardy was one of the top performers in 2009 he was even the WWE Champion for the first time in his historic career. In 2009, he was arrested for having cocaine residue, and drug paraphernalia in his house worth over 2,500 dollars. In 2011, Hardy’s bail was set at 125,000 dollars it was posted and Hardy was released.
7. Big Show
Big Show will be a first ballot Hall of Famer when he hangs up the boots. He has been the second coming of Andre the Giant. He is huge and when he began wrestling on World Championship Wrestling he was instantly the most exciting performer on the roster. He continued that success in WWE. He has been with WWE for 20 years and is still on wrestling to this very day. But the big man decided in 1998 that he would like to flash the other big show to a female employee at a motel in Memphis, Tennessee. The cops were called and he was arrested. He was brought in but the charges were dropped because there was little evidence to hold the Big Show. He has won multiple titles and has accomplished many things in his career but this is one he would like to forget.
6. Matt Hardy
Matt Hardy has re-invented himself as a wrestler while he was with TNA. His broken persona was arguably the most entertaining thing in the world of wrestling. Matt had been the second fiddle to his brother Jeff Hardy but he finally became the star everyone wanted to see. Hardy and his wife were both arrested after a domestic dispute in 2014. Hardy’s brother has been in legal trouble himself but not in the way that Matt has found himself in recent years. His wife and himself were fighting with each other in a Virginia Hotel when the cops were called and they both found themselves in jail. Matt Hardy was clearly broken when this mug shot was taken. Hardy came back to WWE at WrestleMania 33 in 2017.
5. Jerry Lawler
Jerry Lawler is one of the most iconic wrestlers and wrestling personalities of all time. Since he was a wrestler he was one of the best on the mic. When his wrestling career was over he took his talents to the commentary booth and Jim Ross and himself became the best announcing team in the history of wrestling. Lawler was arrested in 2016 and it affected the Hall of Famers career. He was one of the voices of the WWE in the Attitude era and up until a few years ago. He was moved to the pre-shows. When he was arrested for domestic assault charges. Following the arrest WWE suspended him. He has since returned but is still on pre-shows. He still have value to the WWE product.
4. Charlotte Flair
Charolette Flair is the daughter of the only and only Ric Flair. She is just as good a wrestler as her father and it didn’t take long for her to capture championship gold. It only took her two months to stop the streak of Nikki Bella, whom at the time was the longest reigning champion of all time. The four-time WWE Woman’s Champion has only been in the WWE main roster for two years but she has been making headlines before she was in the WWE. In 2008, Ashley Fliehr was arrested for assaulting a police officer in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Report said that Fliehr kicked an officer and was then shot with a taser gun and brought to jail. Since then she has kept away from the law.
3. Roman Reigns
Roman Reigns is being pushed to the top of WWE. He is now looked at as the new face of the WWE. The higher ups believe that Roman is ready to be the face of WWE. He is getting mixed reactions from the crowd but so does John Cena. He has all the traits to win the crowds over it just might take some time for him. He is must see when he hits the ring. After retiring the Undertaker this past WrestleMania, he is only going to get more good and bad reactions. He has headlined three straight WrestleMania events and is a top contender to the belt no matter what. In 2010, Reigns was just starting out in the WWE. He was arrested for disorderly conduct, intoxication, affray, unlawful assembly, and riot. He was released on a $1000 dollar bond and had to pay $500 dollar fine for each offense.
2. Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho is one of the best wrestlers to lace up a pair of boots and enter the squared circle. Chris Jericho had a career resurgence in 2016. When he teamed up with Kevin Owens and he began the List of Jericho the WWE Universe couldn’t get enough Jericho. It was 2000 all over again and Raw was once again Jericho. Y2J just couldn’t beat the police in the streets. In 2010, Chris Jericho was arrest with former superstar Greg Helms AKA The Hurricane. The two wrestlers were taken to the Kenton County Detention Center for “alcohol intoxication in a public place.” Chris Jericho is still with WWE but after his win at WrestleMania he has left to go on tour with his band Fozzy.
All three members of Team Extreme found their way on to this list. Lita is more of a surprise then Matt and Jeff Hardy. When the real life affair with WWE superstar Edge became public she was one her own. No longer with the Hardy’s the real life love story played on the screen for everyone to see. Lita then feuded with Trish Stratus and they had matches that the women of WWE looked up to as their hero. She still is with WWE and does pre-shows for Pay-Per-Views. The four time WWE Women’s Champion was arrested in 2011. She was driving with a suspended license. Lita was taken to jail and her bail was set at $2,000 dollars. Lita was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2014.
