There are five matches signed for WWE Survivor Series 2016. The 30th edition of Survivor Series, which started back in 1987, will be a four-hour extravaganza. With that said, there will probably be several more matches added to the card. Not to mention that there will be coming additions to four of the five matches already signed. There is great potential for Survivor Series to be an instant classic based on these to be announced additions to the card. There is also great potential for some not so great matches to find there way into this four hour long version of Survivor Series. History tells us that we will get a little of both.
WWE Superstars such as The Undertaker, John Cena, and Seth Rollins who aren’t signed for the card yet give us hope for potential Survivor Series greatness. WWE Superstars like The Ascension, Jack Swagger, and Jinder Mahal who aren’t on the card yet could get us thinking of potential bathroom breaks. And WWE Superstars like The Spirit Squad and James Ellsworth who aren’t signed to the card yet might have us laughing out loud at the thought of what Survivor Series goofiness might be hatched this year. Let’s take a look at eight big match additions that would make Survivor Series great and seven that wouldn’t.

15 Great: Lucha Dragons Added To Team Raw’s Tag Teams
All we know at the moment is that Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day are the captains of Team Raw’s Tag Teams. If we had to guess, Anderson & Gallows, Shining Stars, and Enzo & Big Cass should be safe bets to make the cut. A great way to round out this team would be to add the reunited Lucha Dragons. It would also make a whole lot of sense. Kalisto being drafted to SmackDown Live was a huge blunder right from the start. He needs to have the option of competing in the Raw exclusive Cruiserweight Division. This move would be a nice Survivor Series surprise and would right a huge WWE Draft mistake. And The Lucha Dragons would be a much better option than Golden Truth or the odd couple pairing of Cesaro & Sheamus.
14 Not So Great: The Undertaker vs John Cena WrestleMania 33 Match Announcement
Ok so this isn’t a match but The Undertaker vs John Cena being announced for WrestleMania 33 at Survivor Series is a remote possibility that I’m hoping doesn’t happen. Taker is appearing on the November 15 SmackDown Live episode and it’s hard to believe that he won’t also show up at the 30th Survivor Series pay-per view for something big. Taker vs Cena being signed for WrestleMania would be big but would be a day late and a dollar short. This potential WrestleMania showdown lost a lot of its cachet when Brock Lesnar ended The Undertaker’s undefeated WrestleMania streak at WrestleMania XXX. Fans would most likely react positively to this match announcement initially but interest would definitely be in danger of fading without the streak being in play.
13 Great: The Undertaker vs Sting WrestleMania 33 Match Announcement
Ok so this isn’t a match either but it would be huge if The Undertaker vs Sting was announced for WrestleMania 33 at Survivor Series. Taker is schedule to appear on the 900th episode of SmackDown Live on November 15. There’s a good chance that it could be an appearance to tease something bigger at Survivor Series. The Undertaker debuted at Survivor Series 1990 and Sting debuted at Survivor Series 2014. It would be awesome and the dream of many fans to see these two legends come nose to nose in the middle of the ring at this year’s Survivor Series. It is highly unlikely largely due to Sting’s very complicated physical condition. He suffered a severe neck injury at Night of Champions 2015 in his match with Seth Rollins for the WWE Championship. We can only keep our collective fingers crossed.
12 Not So Great: Triple H Added To Team Raw
Triple H being added to Team Raw probably wouldn’t even be a big surprise at this point. The Game thrusting himself into big WWE storylines culminating at big pay-per views like WrestleMania has become all too common. There is still a place for him as a part time attraction because even at the age of 47, Triple H is still a very good wrestler. He’s also a very compelling on-air character especially in the role of an arrogant heel authority figure. The Cerebral Assassin is probably on a collision course with Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 33 and that’s fine. It’s a match that makes sense and fans seemed to be excited about that possibility. However, Triple H needs to sit out Survivor Series to let others get a little spotlight.
11 Great: John Cena Added To Team Raw
John Cena being added to Team Raw would be an epic Survivor Series curveball. Team Raw has one open spot while Team SmackDown Live has a completed team minus Cena. It would be a great story if Cena were recruited to Team Raw because he was disgruntled at not being included on the blue team by Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan. There have been rumors of shaking up the rosters a bit and this would be classified as a huge shake up. However, rumors have suggested that the frontrunners for the final spot on Team Raw are Seth Rollins and Sami Zayn. Are Rollins and Zayn’s names being leaked to throw fans off the track? WWE has used this tactic before to try and keep big pay-per view surprises under wraps.
10 Not So Great: Sheamus vs Cesaro
Sheamus and Cesaro are currently involved in an odd couple tag team angle based on their less than epic best of seven series. At Clash of Champions 2016,the series ended, maybe appropriately enough, in a three all tie after match seven was declared a no contest. The team isn’t just dysfunctional from a storyline standpoint but it also is in reality. Both are talented but they aren’t doing anything to establish themselves as a great or even interesting tag team. With that said, it could be just a matter of time before they pull the trigger on a rematch of match seven. Hopefully this is not done in time for Survivor Series. It’s not an interesting enough angle to take up a coveted spot on the pay-per view. There’s a lot of work to be done if WWE does want to present a compelling Sheamus vs Cesaro rematch deserving of a pay-per view payoff match.
9 Great: Team Miz vs Team Rusev
The Miz has enjoyed a career resurgence since his real life wife Maryse joined his side. He had a nice run with the Intercontinental Championship and had a memorable confrontation with Daniel Bryan. Miz has become one of the more interesting heels in WWE as of late. With that said, The Miz finds himself on the outside looking in at the Survivor Series card and he shouldn’t be. One possible option to get The Miz on the card is for him to captain a team of five against Raw Superstar Rusev’s team of five. What sense does this make you ask? Maryse and Rusev’s real life wife could start an interpromotional feud that ends with their husbands on opposite Survivor Series teams. The Miz’s team could be comprised of his buddies The Spirit Squad,Curt Hawkins, and Luke Harper while Rusev’s team could be rounded out by Jinder Mahal, Titus O’Neil, Curtis Axel, and Bo Dallas.
8 Not So Great: Team Big Show vs Team Kane
It’s no secret that Vince McMahon is in love with the concept that bigger is better. As a result, it would also come as no surprise if a Survivor Series elimination match were signed pitting Team Big Show vs Team Kane. Big Show is rumored to be returning soon to start a WrestleMania 33 angle with Shaquille O’Neal. This would be a way of starting that road to WrestleMania. McMahon would probably round the teams out with Mark Henry, Titus O’Neil, Cesaro, and Sheamus joining Show while Kane’s teammates would probably be Jack Swagger, Luke Harper, and The Ascension. Show and Kane are two great veterans and deserve spots at Survivor Series. However, this match would be a slow paced snooze-fest and a great example of bigger not always being better.
7 Great: Team Miz vs Team Rollins
Another option to get The Miz on the Survivor Series card would be him issuing a challenge to a high profile Raw Superstar for an interpromotional Survivor Series match. Seth Rollins is as high profile as they come and currently does not have a match at Survivor Series. This match would differ a bit from the Team Miz vs Team Rusev match and would require different teammates for The Miz. One story is a feud started by the wives while the other would be strictly competition. The Miz wouldn’t recruit guys like The Spirit Quad and Curt Hawkins for this showdown. The Miz would recruit Luke Harper, Kane, Jack Swagger, and Apollo Crews while Rollins would be joined by Neville, Sami Zayn, Cesaro, and Sheamus.
6 Not So Great: Team Bo-Lieve vs Team Real Americans
Another concept that WWE is in love with is comedy matches. Team Bo-Lieve vs Team Real Americans would certainly fall into that category.Team Bo-Lieve would be the team of Bo Dallas, Jinder Mahal, Titus O’Neil, Darren Young, and Curtis Axel while Team Real Americans would be Jack Swagger, The Spirit Squad, Curt Hawkins, and James Ellsworth. We can have a chuckle at the thought of such a match but the laughing would stop if it were signed. Never say never and especially since WWE has four hours to kill at the Survivor Series pay-per view. Also remember that the Survivor Series has produced classic comedy such as The Gobbledy Gooker, the Four Doinks match, and Doink, Dink, Wink, and Pink vs Jerry the King Lawler, Sleazy, Queasy, and Cheesy. Team Bo-Lieve vs Team Real Americans might not be such a long shot to get signed for Survivor Series after all.
5 Great: NXT Survivor Series Elimination Match
An NXT Survivor Series elimination match isn’t likely but it would be a great addition to the card. With NXT TakeOver: Toronto happening the night before it wouldn’t be a difficult match to add. However, WWE has been careful to only give WWE fans small doses of NXT on the main roster. Maybe that small dose should include an NXT Survivor Series elimination match every year. If the match were set for this year’s Survivor Series then the team captains would probably be NXT Champion Shinsuke Nakamura and Samoa Joe. In a bit of twist, it might also be interesting to make it a mixed tag. WWE wouldn’t take up two slots with NXT matches so the mixed tag format would allow the women to be showcased as well. The teams could then be rounded out with NXT Women’s Champion Asuka, NXT Tag Team Champions The Revival, and Ember Moon joining Nakamura while Bobby Roode, Eric Young, Peyton Royce, and Billie Kay could join Joe. Having an NXT Survivor Series match every year would help build the elimination match tradition that WWE fans loved so much about the original Survivor Series.
4 Not So Great: Golden Truth, Prime Time Players Added To Team Raw’s Tag Teams
It would be simply awful if Golden Truth and/or a reunited Prime Time Players end up a part of Team Raw’s Tag Teams. As of this writing, we know that WWE Raw Tag Team Champions The New Day are the team captains but nothing else. It might be safe to say that Anderson & Gallows, Shining Stars, and Enzo & Big Cass should secure three of the four remaining spots. That leaves one final spot that in all likelihood should be secured by Sheamus & Cesaro. However, with that team’s combustible nature, their selection to Team Raw might not be a slam-dunk. Could we end up seeing Golden Truth on Team Raw or even worse, The Prime Time Players putting their difference aside for the good of their brand? Hopefully neither of these teams find their way onto Team Raw at Survivor Series.
3 Great: Cruiserweight Division Survivor Series Elimination Match
A Cruiserweight Division Survivor Series elimination match would be awesome and would seem like a no brainer. It’s a mystery why it hasn’t been announced yet and would be an even bigger mystery if it doesn’t materialize. What wouldn’t be a mystery is who would be the captains of the opposing squads. Brian Kendrick recently defeated TJ Perkins for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship. Kendrick vs Perkins has turned into a nice rivalry that could set the tone for a Cruiserweight Division Survivor Series elimination match. The teams could be rounded out with Ariya Daivari, Drew Gulak, Tony Nese, and Noam Dar joining Kendrick while Rich Swann, Cedric Alexander, Lince Dorado, and Gran Metalik could join Perkins. There’s still time for a Cruiserweight Division Survivor Series elimination match to be signed. Hopefully it is because it would be a highflying treat.
2 Not So Great: Dolph Ziggler vs Neville
Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler’s open challenge to any Raw Superstar for a title match at Survivor Series could turn out to be really great or could be a complete disaster. If Ziggler goes out there and cuts a really great promo followed by Neville’s music hitting then there’s going to be problems. Nothing against Neville but for this match to work, it’s going to take a higher profile Raw Superstar. Unfortunately we have seen the open challenge take a turn for the worse throughout pro wrestling history and in the not too distant past. In January, TNA King of the Mountain Champion Bobby Roode put out a challenge to any wrestler from any wrestling promotion for his title. The challenge was accepted by TNA Star Bram to crickets chirping. Hopefully we don’t get a repeat of that performance at Survivor Series.
1 Great: Dolph Ziggler vs Seth Rollins
Intercontinental Champion Dolph Ziggler issued an open challenge to any Raw Superstar for a title match at Survivor Series. If Seth Rollins were to answer that challenge then it would be a match up of two of the best wrestlers in WWE. Ziggler vs Rollins for the Intercontinental Championship would also have show stealing potential. It would be an interesting match considering the events of Survivor Series two years ago. Ziggler defeated Rollins to emerge as the sole survivor in the huge Authority vs Team Cena match. Ziggler and Rollins had a brief rivalry following that Survivor Series but never got a big one on one pay-per view pay off match. Maybe it’s time for these two great wrestlers to get their one on one match on a big stage like Survivor Series.
