The "Macho Man," Randy Savage and Miss Elizabeth wedding at SummerSlam, The McMahon-Helmsley Era, and the John Cena and Nikki Bella/The Miz and Maryse feud. All three are examples of memorable wrestling feuds and moments involving wrestling couples. What made these wrestling events so popular and so intense was the fact that the couples involved were in real-life relationships outside of wrestling as well. Because these actual couples were involved in wrestling angles, the feud felt personal and real, and fans would become more engaged in the storylines. After successful feuds, angles and storylines, wrestling promotions soon understood the importance of wrestling couples and have been finding ways to get these real life partners more involved in their wrestling angles.

While wrestling companies may love the idea of “power couples,” the couples themselves might not be too thrilled about their real-life relationships being used in a storyline. That puts a lot of pressure for these couples to stay together when life on the road and in professional wrestling is difficult enough as it is. This article is about these couples.

In a business where the most attractive people work with some of the biggest egos, behind the scenes cheating, flirting, politicking and gossip running rampant, many relationships are not able to survive. However, not every superstar is arrogant, or a cheater or hungry for power, and other couples have weathered the storm of a tumultuous locker room. 2018 is here, and we shall see which couples are able to survive and which one’s will not. Here are my predictions of the 7 couples that will last after 2018, and the 8 that won’t.

15 15. Won't: Dean Ambrose And Renee Young

Sweet, innocent Renee Young and The Lunatic Fringe, Dean Ambrose. How these two are a couple is anyone’s guess. It seems like every year, this couple seems to make the list of relationships that won’t last, and yet they have remained together all this time. Opposites much attract, because both Dean and Renee appear to have the most different personalities two partners can have.

Ambrose is the laid back boyfriend, who portrays an insane daredevil superstar, while Renee is the happy-go-lucky, bouncing off the walls girlfriend, who portrays the level-headed backstage interviewer on screen. It’s this yin and the yang of personalities that make Dean and Renee high on the list of wrestling couples that won’t last, and 2018 is no different. The two just got married in April of 2017, but with their personalities being so different, their relationship seems almost too forced to last beyond 2018.

14 14. Will: John Cena And Nikki Bella

via lipstickalley.com

While most people believe this relationship won’t last, the relationship between The Leader of the Cenation and the longest-reigning WWE Divas Champion will at least survive 2018. Now, there are plenty of red flags with this relationship. Cena doesn’t want children, Nikki does. Cena took forever to ask Nikki the big question, making fans wonder why. Cena has cheated in the past and is allegedly suffering from OCD, making it difficult to live with him. Other than that, what could go wrong?

Cena likes to say, “U can’t see me,” but the truth is many just can’t see him with Nikki for much longer. I’ll give their relationship until 2018, because, they just got engaged after all. Not only did they get engaged, but their engagement was heavily publicized and WWE won't be happy if Cena hurts his good guy image with him calling off his own wedding. I totally see Cena and Nikki going past 2018, but I don’t see this relationship going much farther than that because of the issues already listed.

13 13. Won't: Zack Ryder And Laurel Van Ness

via sportzmode.com

I gotta give Zack Ryder some credit. While he has, and continues to lay down for just about everybody in his professional career, Ryder apparently lays down for beautiful women of wrestling as well. “Woo, Woo, Woo. You know it.” Ryder was in a relationship with Emma and has recently snagged former Global Force Wrestling (and WWE Tough Enough) talent Laurel Van Ness. Ryder and Ness both seem like decent people and could make this relationship work. With Van Ness leaving Impact, there’s a possibility of her coming to WWE, putting her on the road with the Broski and keeping the couple from being separated. This relationship is still in its infancy, but unfortunately, I still don’t seeing it surviving 2018.

Now let's look at Ryder in particular. If he couldn’t hang on to that beautiful Aussie, Emma, that gives me pause about his relationship to Laurel Van Ness. Not to mention that life on the road is hard for all the wrestling relationships as well, so unless Van Ness is joining the WWE or on the road with Ryder, this long-distance relationship with limited time to see each other will be hard to survive.

12 12. Will: Rusev And Lana

via twitter.com/RusevBUL

Here’s another controversial couple that everyone has seemingly written off, but I’m going to CRUSH their negativity and say this relationship survives (at least another year). Who knows where their careers will be after a year, but thanks to a recent wedding, I’m giving this relationship a fighting chance.

Both Lana and Rusev work on the same brand, so they aren’t separated by the brand split. Of course, Vince McMahon may have been upset with Lana posting their wedding photos online and has lost interest in Rusev, but both, at the moment, remain employed. Also, Creative is at least trying to work with them, so their careers seem healthy for now. Sure, Lana and Rusev may be a young couple, but I don’t see this relationship on the ropes just yet.

11 11. Won't: Bray Wyatt And JoJo Offerman

via youtube.com

Like every other member of the Wyatt family members, I don’t see JoJo Offerman following the buzzards past 2018. If there was ever a shocking wrestling couple, The Eater of Worlds and ring announcer JoJo certainly fits the bill. Jojo is absolutely stunning, while Bray is, how shall I say it, homely to put it mildly. JoJo is simply way too hot for Wyatt, and judging from Wyatt’s cheating past, who knows if Wyatt can be trusted with a committed relationship, even if it is with JoJo.

Although this relationship has lasted longer than expected, there’s no way this survives 2018. Does JoJo really want to be if someone who has cheated on his wife in the past? Both JoJo and Bray have laid low during their time together which could simply be chalked up to privacy. Either way, their relationship isn’t exactly an open one, which has to make it difficult for them. It’s their lives, but my advice for JoJo would be simple. “RUN.”

10 10. Will: CM Punk And AJ Lee

via stillrealtous.com

The Best in the World, CM Punk and the unrecognized matriarch of the Women’s Revolution, AJ Lee, may not be the WWE’s favorite couple, but these two aren’t splitting anytime soon. Both, Punk and AJ have had historic WWE Title runs, and their marriage will have a long run as well. Both Punk and AJ are enjoying life away from WWE, and some may think that could hurt their relationship. However, Punk’s blacklist status and AJ Lee’s shot at Stephanie McMahon, if anything, probably made their relationship even stronger.

Outside the WWE, both are doing extremely well working on their own projects with AJ Lee’s writing and advocacy and CM Punk’s UFC endeavors and writing of his own. Despite Punk being labeled “arrogant” and AJ Lee being label “crazy,” both seem perfect for each other. This relationship shows no signs of faltering and will last long past 2018.

9 9. Won't: Sarath Ton And Sasha Banks

via Pinterest.com

Who the heck is Sarath Ton? Ton wrestled under the names Rutherford P.S. Hayes and Kid Mikaze for the independent circuit, mostly Ring of Honor and Chaotic Wrestling. Mikaze has since become a costume designer, while The Boss is a huge star in WWE. Not that Sarath Ton isn’t successful, but Sasha Banks clearly has the career that has taken off.  This is where the belief in their relationship’s demise comes from.

While Sasha’s relationship with Sarath Ton has lasted longer than her WWE Women’s Title reigns combined, I’m going to side with the “crazy” wrestling fans and say this one doesn’t make it past 2018. There’s no sign that this relationship is in trouble, and Mikaze seems to get along with the other wrestlers, but this is The Boss we’re talking about. Sasha Banks is legit, and she knows it, while Mikaze isn't the boss of anything. Mikaze better recognize who The Boss is in the relationship, or it could all end in a snap.

8 8. Will: Magnus And Mickie James

With Mickie James returning to WWE and Magnus gone from Impact/GFW, sometimes it’s hard to remember they are married with kids. While some have doomed this marriage to fail, I’m going the opposite direction and predicting this marriage isn’t going anywhere, not in 2018 and not ever.

Many wrestling fans are pointing to Mickie’s not so pleasant break up with Kenny Dykstra of the Spirit Squad. Mickie was engaged to Kenny until she entered a relationship with John Cena. When Mickie and John broke up, Mickie wasn’t happy and mimicked her crazy stalker gimmick a little too close to real life. Many point to these events as to why the couple may be in danger, but I disagree.

While being on the road away from her husband has to suck, Mickie has grown up a lot since her previous run in WWE. She’s a mother with a husband and certainly isn’t the same person she was ten years ago.

7 7. Won't: Jeff And Karen Jarrett

via wrestling-edge.com

Speaking of unlikely couples, Karen Smedley, the former wife of Kurt Angle, decided to divorce Kurt in 2008, and married Jeff Jarrett in 2010. While her marriage to Kurt sounded like a trainwreck, with Kurt on drugs, boozing it up and blatantly cheating on her, marrying Jarrett may not have been the best choice either.

Jarrett left WWE in 1999 and started up Total Nonstop Action Wrestling until he left TNA in 2013. Jarrett started up Global Force Wrestling in 2014 but would loan GFW to TNA which adopted the Global Force Wrestling name. With Jarrett seemingly out of wrestling, and his relationship with WWE heavily tainted, Karen has to be wondering where their financial support will come from. To make matters worse, Jeff Jarrett is apparently in rehab recovering from alcoholism. Jeff Jarrett’s life in disarray and Karen's infidelity to Kurt in the past have me predicting this marriage over before 2018’s end.

6 6. Will: Mike And Maria Kanellis

While Mike and Maria Kanellis’ careers in WWE may be M.I.A., the WWE can’t stop the power of love. Regardless of what happens to Mike and Maria, the couple will surely last well beyond 2018. Maria’s pregnancy has put Mike and Maria on hold in WWE, but welcoming their first child will definitely secure their marriage. When Maria is back from maternity leave, it’s likely their jobs will be waiting for them, ensuring some nice financial security for the future parents.

Only Mike Kanellis’ recent rehab stint could be a possible hiccup in their relationship. However, Mike's time in rehab shouldn't be an issue. Unless there’s a serious relapse, Mike has completed his rehab and has thus far remained sober. If the power of love can survive that, then this power couple is likely not going away.

5 5. Tyler Bate And Liv Morgan (Won’t)

via http://officialfan.proboards.com

Fans are largely unfamiliar with Tyler Bate and Liv Morgan and likely didn’t even know these two were an item. Liv Morgan has recently been called up from NXT to SmackDown and has joined the Riott Squad. Meanwhile, Tyler Bate was the first ever WWE United Kingdom Champion and currently works in NXT. Like their WWE careers, both Bate and Morgan are just starting their relationship. However, their relationship, at least for now, has been a little more interesting than their on screen wrestling careers.

Liv Morgan was recently dating fellow WWE superstar, Enzo Amore. However, Liv and Enzo have split, with Morgan taking to social media, alleging that Enzo had cheated on her. With Enzo gone, Tyler Bate swooped in, and Bate and Morgan have been dating as of this writing. While some might say Bate is a huge step up from Enzo, this relationship still won’t last beyond 2018.

Both Liv and Tyler are young and are just testing the waters of WWE and their relationship. Although Bate should look great after Enzo, a long term relationship is still asking a lot so early in both of their careers and relationship.

4 4. Will: Daniel Bryan And Brie Bella

stillrealtous.com

If you want to know whether or not Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella will stay together beyond 2018 the simple answer is “YES! YES! YES!” These two are kind of an unlikely couple only because Daniel Bryan was the super-over internet darling, and Brie was, well, not. However, despite this difference, D-Bry and Brie aren't going away. Brie has gone “MOM MODE” and given birth to their first child, a daughter named Birdie Joe.

Unlike John Cena and Nikki Bella, Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella seem to have no issues whatsoever. Bryan wasted no time marrying up Brie, and both are obviously on the same page with children. Even without the bond of their daughter, Daniel and Brie both seem incredibly laid back and any of the marital troubles or sketchy history seen from other wrestling couples are nowhere to be found with Daniel Bryan and Brie Bella.

3 3. Won't: Big Cass And Carmella

via pinterest.com

While this would be a great time for a SAWFT joke, I’m not going to go there. The truth is there’s no reason to believe Big Cass and Carmella’s relationship is hitting a rough patch.  However, both are in different spots professionally, with Big Cass having heat and being injured, while Carmella has WWE's blessing as the first-ever Ms. Money in the Bank.

While Big Cass annoyed the roster with his constant rants about politics and his defense of the outspoken Enzo Amore, Carmella is a lot better received by both WWE management and her peers. Though time will tell where both Carmella and Cass’ careers will go, their relationship still doesn’t seem as serious as it should be. There’s nothing wrong with taking it slow, but the two having been dating for awhile now. If Big Cass’ career doesn’t pan out when he returns, it’s likely Carmella could see herself better off without Cass, much like her career on SmackDown.

2 2. The Miz And Maryse (Will)

via WWE.com

If you needed another reason to hate The Miz, here’s another. The Miz and Maryse aren’t splitting up in 2018, and it’s highly doubtful that they ever will. Why? Because he’s The Miz and he’s AWESOME! And, of course, because they both have a kid on the way, among other reasons.

The Miz has a knack for annoying people, and the fact that he has a smoking hot wife in Maryse isn’t helping. Miz and Maryse have been together for a long time, even when Maryse was away from the company. They stuck together, have since been paired on screen during Maryse’s return, and have a little Miz on the way. The A-Lister seems to have everything going for him, and his relationship with Maryse appears as rock-solid as his career.

1 1. Won't: Buddy Murphy And Alexa Bliss

A lot of people are dogging Buddy Murphy and Alexa Bliss, and unfortunately, I’m going to be one of them as well. Buddy Murphy’s greatest success has been in NXT with Wesley Blake, while Alexa Bliss is a Goddess already skyrocketing through RAW as the Raw Women’s Champion. With Bliss’ future in WWE seemingly limitless, Murphy’s career in NXT is uncertain. Uncertainty can lead to relationship problems.

While Murphy was wise to propose to Alexa Bliss, Buddy and Bliss continue to make the list of couples surely to split. Alexa Bliss is beautiful and young, and her career continues to propel forwards. Buddy Murphy, at least for now, just hasn't quite measured up. The nature of the wrestling business takes its toll on many couples and the same will happen here.
