A Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Has Requested His Release From WWE

In 2006, Jack Swagger signed with the WWE. In 2009, he won the World Heavyweight title. And now, in 2017, Swagger is asking the WWE to release him.

Now, to be honest, I wouldn't blame you if you thought that Swagger had already been released given that he hasn't appeared on TV since an episode of Main Event last November (he has appeared at a good number of house shows though).

Well, obviously Jack isn't happy with the direction things have been going for him in the WWE, so he is looking to get out.

He made an appearance on a recent episode of Chael Sonnen's Beyond the Fight podcast, where he had this to say (transcript via Wrestling Observer):

"As of yesterday, Chael, I asked for my release from WWE. It’s still kind of an ongoing process right now. Basically, it came down to contract negotiations and we were way off. They didn’t value me at what I thought I was valued at. So, you can be angry about it because wrestling is something that you get so passionate about, but this was a business decision. They weren’t giving me the opportunity to make the full amount of income I could for my family, so when you put it like that it’s time to go."
