Vince McMahon is a global figure who everybody knows and loves, yet people actually don't know too much about his private life, which he has done well to keep private considering how many cameras are constantly around him. The McMahon family is incredibly well known, and wrestling simply runs in their blood with both of Vince's children having played significant roles in the company history, both on and off screen. We can actually still see his two children weekly on WWE's flagship programs, with both still heavily involved in the storylines that are currently airing on TV.

But what is their relationship with the mad genius that is Vince McMahon actually like? Going through childhood with Vince as a father certainly brought its perks, but also its negatives, something that continues to this day as they both effectively work for him. WWE has always been a family business, and the current family running it definitely has an interesting and colourful past.

There have been some insane stories about the McMahon family over the years, with plenty of them involving the relationships between Vince and his children, which will be looked at in this article. So throughout this list, we shall take a look at 18 little-known facts about the relationship between Shane and Stephanie with their father, Vince McMahon.

18 The Perfect Grandchildren

It's very strange how things like this work out, almost as if its fate but Stephanie and Shane McMahon have managed to provide a perfect situation for Vince and his wife Linda in terms of their grandkids. Stephanie and Triple H have three girls together while Shane has three boys, giving Vince the perfect mix of grandchildren, which will no doubt work perfectly for him in some crazy WWE storyline down the years.

The amount of McMahon's coming through means there will be no shortage of on-screen authority figures to take over the shows when they are old enough. Some of them could potentially even become wrestlers, following in their families footsteps.

17 Shane Tried To Get Vince To Buy UFC

via wrestlingnews.co

Nowadays, UFC is one of the biggest sporting companies in the world, taking MMA to new heights of popularity that at one point in time were unthinkable. However, back in the early 2000's, that wasn't so much the case. When UFC was first getting started, Shane McMahon wanted to buy the company and pestered his father into picking it up for what would have been next to nothing compared to the $3.5 billion it is worth today.

Vince rejected the idea but that wasn't the last time Shane pushed him to try to buy an MMA company.

In 2006 he attempted once again and tried to make Vince buy PRIDE, which almost happened with WWE.com even reporting on meetings between them, but things fell through and Shane's dream never happened.

16 Vince Didn't Want Stephanie To Date Wrestlers

via wwe.com

Well... we all know how this one turned out with Stephanie clearly going against her father's orders by marrying Triple H, but it seems that Vince was onboard with that decision, at least after a brief cooling period. However originally when Stephanie first started to break into the business, Vince made it very clear to her that she wasn't to date any of the wrestlers under any circumstances, but then he may have played a hand in ensuring that she did.

Despite the fact that he didn't want her to date wrestlers, Vince had no problem in putting her in storylines involving dating wrestlers, with her angle with Test ultimately leading to the fake marriage to Triple H, with their closeness ending up in a real-life wedding.

15 Vince Rejected Shane's ECW Idea

via wwe.com

ECW was one of the biggest wrestling promotions of all time and while it never came close to the size of WWE or WCW, it's cult following allowed it to be a huge success, something that Shane McMahon recognized. When Paul Heyman's company was slowly dying in 2000, Shane asked his father to buy the company and allow him to run it as a separate promotion, which WWE would have owned but could have been very different.

Instead, Vince let ECW crumble and then bought the name and tapes for a cheaper price.

He eventually brought ECW back with WWE's own version and Shane again pitched to run it as something different, but instead, we got the terrible watered down version that eventually ended.

14 Vince Made Shane Pay His Dues

via wwe.com

Shane McMahon might be at the very top of WWE's management structure right now, but that isn't something he was just given on a silver platter because his last name happens to be McMahon. No, Vince believes in hard work and earning things as that is what he had to do and he made sure that Shane learned the exact same life lesson by giving him a role as a referee to start with.

Shane would have to put up the ring before shows and take it down straight after, and then work matches throughout the night with images of his bowtie-wearing character "Shane Stevens," now being fun to look back on.

13 Shane Helped Bring In Floyd Mayweather

via wrestlingnews.co

Floyd Money Mayweather is one of the biggest box office draws in history and Vince McMahon signing him for a WrestleMania match against Big Show was a major deal that brought a lot of eyes to the product.

Well, it turns out that his son, Shane actually played a part in making that whole situation happen. Shane pitched the idea for Rey Mysterio and a partner to take on Mayweather and another partner and although Rey got injured so plans changed, the Mayweather situation stuck. He also played a key role in keeping that match alive, as when Mayweather started the angle by breaking Big Show's nose, Shane was the only man brave enough to stand in Show's way and stop him from legitimately destroying the boxer.

12 Shane Helped Raise Stephanie

via youtube.com

There might be constant rumours circulating about the tension between the siblings in regards to who is going to take over when Vince McMahon steps down, with Triple H and Stephanie seemingly first in line, but it isn't all arguments between the brother and sister.

The pair actually shares a very close bond due to the fact that Vince was away for large portions of their childhood due to the nature of the wrestling business and the fact that WWE was growing into a global juggernaut at that time. Because Vince spent a lot of his time away of working in the office, he missed a lot of moments at home which meant Shane stepped in as a male figure in the house in the absence of their father, helping raise his baby sister.

11 Stephanie And Triple H's Secret

Stephanie McMahon and Triple H marrying dating was always going to be risky business, with many of the wrestlers questioning why Triple H would be doing that, with many presuming it was only to gain an advantage while the McMahon family certainly did not approve.

One person who really was against it was her brother, Shane McMahon and there has been a level of real-life tension between him and Triple H.

This is something Steph clearly knew about as Shane'O was the very last person to find out. Even Vince knew before Shane, meaning he also decided to neglect to tell his son the secret. That was probably a wise decision but shows just how much Shane didn't like the whole thing.

10 His Children Cared For Their Mother

via sportskeeda.com

Vince McMahon will do anything to entertain the fans and over the years that has led to him doing some ridiculous things, from being covered in poo to creating the Kiss My Ass club, all of which created embarrassment for his wife, Linda.

But the worst situation was when Vince decided to put himself in love angles, such as when he made out with Trish Stratus, all while Linda had to watch on. Though she certainly understands it's a TV show, it can still be tough to endure as a wife. Thankfully for Vince, he has always had both his son and daughter behind him to help keep Linda happy, talking to her during some of the stupid things Vince decided to do.

When Shane did eventually break into the business as a professional wrestler, he quickly gained the respect of the locker room for the crazy stunts he pulled and the fact he would put his body on the line to help the company. He quickly became close friends with the roster and effectively became 'one of the boys' with many of the wrestlers forgetting he was Vince's son and treating him the same as they did everyone else.

This meant he got dragged into the Attitude Era's rock and roll lifestyle which tended to involve heavy drinking and big parties after shows, which often led to trouble. This was something that Vince did not approve of in the slightest.

8 Stephanie Had To Work An Office Job

Stephanie McMahon and her husband Triple H (we will certainly come on to that), are next in line to take over WWE whenever Vince decides he has had enough, but she wasn't just gifted the keys to the kingdom.

While Shane had to work hard being a referee and setting up the ring, Stephanie was also made to pay her dues, working in the WWE offices completing a bunch of different tasks in order to work her way up the corporate ladder. Stephanie worked for the WWE sales office in New York where she was a receptionist, a creative designer, and a producer before she ever made it onto TV as an on-screen character.

7 Best Friends

Speaking of weddings, while it certainly didn't get as much attention from wrestling fans due to the fact that Shane's wife isn't involved in the business, his wedding was certainly a star-studded affair. But even though Shane is close with many high profile names, he chose his own father, Vince McMahon to be his best man for his wedding, showing just how close the pair really are.

You can only imagine how amazing the best man speech would have been from Vince, with his promo abilities he would have been able to tell some incredible stories that surely left the guests in stitches.

6 Stephanie Modelled

via listal.com

There is no doubt Stephanie McMahon is a very attractive woman and clearly she had great looks from a young age as Vince decided to use his daughter as a model during her youth for the WWE Magazine. As you can see in the photo above, Vince used Stephanie to pose with different wrestlers shirts in order to help sell them to people, putting his daughter to work at a very young age and teaching her all about the working life.

While people might see it as cruel that Vince had Stephanie working from as young as she was, it is also sweet that he thought she was pretty enough to do the job and it will no doubt have taught her plenty of life lessons.

5 Vince Hired Shane's Friends

When your father owns a company as big as WWE you are certainly going to get friends pestering you to try and get a job within it, whether that be backstage, doing security, or being part of the catering team. Well, Shane McMahon went one step further and got his friends jobs as professional wrestlers. This is how the Mean Street Posse was created, with Vince giving Shane's friends; Pete Gas and Rodney an opportunity, with the third spot being filled by an independent wrestler.

While they were never solid in-ring workers, the group actually had a fairly successful run and Vince was likely pleased with his decision.

The group certainly owe a lot of their current lifestyle and riches to Shane'O though.

4 Vince Picked Stephanie Over Shane

It was always going to be a tough situation for Vince McMahon in deciding who would one day take over from him and run the WWE, and while no official decision has been made (with Vince still in charge), it is very clear which of his children he wants to run things.

That would be Stephanie McMahon, who has had a much bigger role behind the scenes that her brother, which has often created tension between them, especially because it is actually Triple H who is seemingly going to be running the ship in terms of creative decisions. While Shane certainly wanted to run the company, Vince decided to give Triple H an entire performance center and developmental system to play with as practice for when he steps up, and it's fair to say he has done a good job with it.

3 Vince And Shane Almost Reached Boiling Point

When Shane McMahon walked out of WWE in 2009, he did so with a heavy heart, but also with good intentions as he revealed on the "tell-all" podcast with Mick Foley on the WWE Network. The relationship between Shane and Vince had become incredibly strained and the pair were struggling to put business aside in order to maintain their personal relationship as father and son.

Shane felt he was no longer being listened to and instead of continuing until a major fallout took place, he simply walked away for a few years. Shane said on the podcast: “I love him too much, I’m going to leave,” and that’s what he did.

2 They've Both Wrestled Vince On PPV

The McMahon family are a crazy bunch, that much is well known so the fact that both Shane McMahon and Stephanie McMahon have wrestled their father on a WWE PPV isn't all that shocking. Only Vince McMahon would constantly push the idea that his own family hates each other down the throats of fans, in a situation that always ends with him putting his own body on the line to take a beating.

Some of Shane and Vince's encounters have been truly brutal, with their WrestleMania X-Seven street fight showing how much they trust each other with the spots that they decided to put on.

1 Vince Wanted A Creepy Storyline With His Daughter

Photo: VoicesOfWrestling.com

Of course, things had to get weird, it's the McMahon family after all and Vince will truly do anything, and I mean anything, to entertain the crowds. However, this storyline idea that the mad genius wanted to do would probably not have done that.

One of the many strange ideas that Vince has had was to do a storyline involving his own family members.

With Stephanie pregnant with Triple H's child (Vince's own grandchild!), he decided he wanted to make an angle from it, pitching that he himself was the father. Stephanie firmly rejected the idea, claiming she doesn't know who would enjoy watching that, but Vince didn't take the rejection lightly, instead, bringing up the idea that the baby could be Shane's. Thankfully, that was met with the same response and this horrendous idea never left the boardroom.
