All Elite Wrestling won the first battle in what is slowly becoming a full-fledged war with WWE's NXT.

The startup company debuted on TNT on Wednesday night, smashing the black and yellow's USA Network ratings in their first head-to-head.

Per The Wrap, AEW Dynamite brought in 1.409 million viewers while NXT attracted 891,000. It should be noted that the season premiere of Raw beat both of them combined as it pulled in 2,569,000 on Monday night.

Fans and media outlets have been comparing the competition between AEW and NXT to the Monday Night Wars that once existed between WWF and WCW back in the day but it isn't quite Wednesday Night Wars just yet - we fully expect it, though.

Cody Rhodes, who serves as AEW's executive vice president, thanked the likes of Vince McMahon and John Cena for helping educate him as a wrestler and giving him the insight that has enabled his involvement in what looks to be a legitimate wrestling promotion that could make waves in the industry in the coming months.

Fans were treated to a proper show on Wednesday night. Cody Rhodes and Sammy Guevara kicked things off rather impressively and everyone followed suit.

The company also crowned its first female champion, with Riho overcoming Nyla Rose to become the first holder of the Women's Championship.

The highest point, though, came towards the end when Jon Moxley showed up to total Kenny Omega and later joining Chris Jericho and Friends in decimating the Elite. "Friends" includes Jake Hager (Jack Swagger), who stunned the audience after appearing out of nowhere to carry out an assault on the likes of Rhodes, his brother Dustin, and The Young Bucks.

Can AEW Keep It Up?

Dynamite's debut was mostly well-received by fans but some remain unconvinced that the show could rival WWE's products. It's burying of NXT on Wednesday could have been out of mere curiosity but we will know for sure over the next few weeks.

The black and yellow brand has welcomed both Finn Balor and Tommaso Ciampa back and the cast is likely to grow. It's going to be a war for sure; we can't wait for it to get started.
