Even if CM Punk shows an interest in joining AEW, it looks like the wrestling promotion is no longer interested in having him, all thanks to one thing.

I suppose it's a good thing Punk appears to be back on some decent ground with WWE. Recent reports are that he's taped some studio footage for Fox, met with people like Renee Young and said publicly on panels that if WWE were to call, he'd talk to them. In an update on this morning's Wrestling Observer Radio, the feeling is that Punk's video test went well and an offer to join the show is likely forthcoming.

The reason that's a good thing is because it appears Punk has burned any bridge he might have had with AEW.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer also reports that AEW is feeling now, as though they'll never work with Punk, even if he asks to join the promotion. Apparently, his interview with ESPN in July, where he discussed AEW making an offer to him via text, tipped them over the edge.

Punk said he didn't know why AEW claimed to be on good terms with Punk and that Punk believed getting an offer via text was unprofessional. Speculation is that AEW didn't do what Punk accused them of and that he's insinuating they look like amateurs in their business dealings has them super upset with Punk.

Punk said:

"...The last thing I got -- I got a text from Cody [Rhodes]. And again, I almost don't even know how to reply to them sometimes, because if I reply, they do interviews and are like, 'Oh yeah, I just talked to Punk.' I'm kind of damned if I do, damned if I don't. I always think if somebody wants to do business with me, they can come talk to me. Texting offers isn't really a way to do good business, at least."

This one part of the interview made executives in AEW livid and to the point where they've all agreed, never work with Punk. Even if things with WWE don't work out, they aren't prepared to throw him an olive branch.

WWE Looks Like A Legit Option For Punk

The more news comes out, the more it appears like Punk may be working his way back into the WWE. For now, any deals are between Fox and Punk, but the partnerships will likely bleed into each other and eventually, WWE has to see the dollar signs in having Punk on some kind of a deal to wrestle again.
