WWE finally agreed to release Luke Harper, eight months after the star asked to be freed from his contractual obligations with the company. Harper was among a handful of wrestlers who were allowed to leave this past Sunday, joining Sin Cara and The Ascension on their way out the exit door.

Of course, speculation over a move to AEW has intensified since then. And it is believed that he will become the latest ex-WWE talent to be signed by the startup wrestling promotion.

According to a Sportskeeda exclusive, AEW World Champion Chris Jericho wants the 39-year-old on AEW's roster and is pushing for him to be picked up.

As much was touched on during this week's Dropkick DiSKussions between host Korey Gunz and Sportskeeda's Tom Colohue.

“I’m not sure where he’ll personally choose, but I do know that Chris Jericho has spoken on his behalf quite recently in interviews that Luke Harper is someone that he is definitely interested in and wants to see at AEW," Colohue stated. "Obviously he doesn’t have final say, but that is someone of interest to him.”

Colohue also claimed that Bray Wyatt was one of the only people at WWE who believed in Harper and the company simply did not know how to book him in storylines that did not involve the current Universal Champion.

Signing With AEW Seems More Likely Than Not

A move to AEW certainly makes sense for Harper right now but there are plenty of other options and he's likely to have his pick of the bunch given his reputation.

The underused star had been looking to get out of his contract for several months, as mentioned above, but was forced to remain with WWE and returned to television in September after a five-month hiatus, helping Erick Rowan beat Roman Reigns at Clash of Champions.

Since then, Harper has only been involved in one televised match, that being the 20-man Battle Royal at Crown Jewel, and he had not been booked since being drafted to SmackDown in October.

So will we see Harper at AEW? It's probably just a matter of time. We won't go out on a limb, though, as nothing is certain.
