After criticism that AEW officiating is highly inconsistent, even one of officials employed by AEW is admitting there’s a problem.

There are a number of fans who absolutely love AEW. And, with the love comes an ability to overlook or forgive some of the smaller issues during pay-per-views and television programs. The big critique in AEW is the officiating that, at times, seems illogical. A perfect example was the most recent episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT where PAC had Trent beat with a three count and the official mysteriously stopped counting. There was no reason given, no acknowledgement from AEW and no storyline behind it.

Current AEW official, Bryce Remsberg spoke with Wrestling Inc's Nick Hausman and said, "I say we're trying our hardest.” He added, that AEW and the officials themselves have gotten together to ensure things improve. "There have been measures taken to ensure that it gets a little better. ...We're all in this together.”

That’s welcome news for wrestling fans who have to know that former refs like WWE’s Jimmy Korderas is right when he calls out AEW for not admonishing five-counts, refs let 20 counts lapse when wrestlers are fighting outside the ring and more. That AEW isn’t blind to it or simply ignoring it means they have placed some importance on ensuring things make sense.

In fact, it’s clear AEW is aware as Jim Ross referenced the issues as Remsbeeg was officiating the PAC vs Adam Page match, giving props to the ref for checking both shoulders.

Wrestlers Can Still Get Their Moves In

The speculated reason officials had been so lax about the rules was to ensure wrestlers got their spots in. In AEW where the wrestling is often high-spot after high-spot, that’s a regular occurrence. The key will being able to both tell a believable story and offer the best, most action-packed in-ring action.

AEW said they wanted to offer the most believable wrestling product available. In many ways, that means enforcing rules that fans can understand.
