AJ Styles Styles To Defend WWE Championship At Clash Of Champions

Clash of Champions is set to be SmackDown Live's last pay-per-view of 2017, and now a championship match is set.

Clash of Champions — set to take place on Dec. 17 in Boston—will be the final WWE pay-per-view event of 2017, and now we know the main event. It's limited to SmackDown superstars only, and every title belt (WWE, United States, SmackDown Women's and the SmackDown Tag Team Championships), will be put on the line.

Though the fallout from Survivor Series is still the focal point, the creative team will soon start to focus on the upcoming matches at Clash of Champions. But while we play the waiting game, WWE announced that the main event will consist of AJ Styles vs. Jinder Mahal for the WWE Championship.

Styles defeated Mahal to capture the championship two weeks ago, and is coming off an unsurprising loss to Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series. The Phenomenal One is set to defend his title against Mahal inside a Steel Cage at the Starrcade event on Saturday, so it's safe to say this rivalry is far from over.

At Survivor Series, WWE advertised a rematch between Mahal and Styles for Tuesday's episode of SmackDown, but the match appeared to be canceled at the last minute. Not to worry, fans of the Style vs. Mahal feud, it's going to highlight to more pay-per-view shows.

Styles' victory to become the new WWE Champion ended a 170-day reign for the Modern Day Maharaja. It's widely expected that Mahal will regain his title soon, since he was being billed as a two-time WWE Champion for the India tour slated for Dec. 8 and 9 2017.

That could mean that Mahal wins the championship this Saturday at Starrcade, and faces Styles for the title once again at Clash of Champions. With rumors of another Superstar Shake-Up, the Styles and Mahal feud may finally come to an end after the December pay-per-view.

While we wait for that to sort out, get excited for (at least) two more title bouts between Styles and Mahal.
