AJ Styles & Roman Reigns Dominate WWE's Top 25 Matches Of 2017

As the year 2017 slowly draws to a close, it's a good time for WWE fans and prognosticators to reflect on the past 12 months and look at some of the best moments and matches.

WWE.com released their list of the Top 25 Matches of 2017. Topping the list was John Cena and AJ Styles at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view, where Cena became a 16-time World Champion - tying Ric Flair's record.

Second on the list was the Fatal-4 way SummerSlam match for the WWE Universal Championship, which saw Brock Lesnar defend his title over Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe, and Roman Reigns. Lesnar and Style's clash at Survivor Series came in at number five on the list.

There were some surprising entries that came in much higher than we'd expect. The Usos vs. The New Day at SummerSlam (a kickoff match for the SmackDown Tag Team Championships), came in at fourth. Also, Goldberg's clash with Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 33 - which wasn't really all that great of a match - came in at 15.

Overall, it was a great year for AJ Styles - who led all superstar with six appearances on the list. Behind him was, you guessed it, Reigns with five. Surprisingly, his match that retired The Undertaker at WrestleMania was absent from the list.

Finn Balor - whom Vince McMahon doesn't think is "over enough" appeared on the list three times. Seth Rollins was listed four times, while Dean Ambrose, Cesaro and Braun Strowman were among the talents that appeared twice.

Just two matches from WrestleMania (Shane McMahon vs. Styles) and Goldberg vs. Lesnar made the top 25. It was also a big year for NXT, who saw six appearances on the list.

It's no secret that Vince McMahon, the creative team and fans all have different opinions on the top 25 matches. Some choices were excellent, but others were definitely questionable. Now, feel free to debate away about WWE's top 25 matches of this year.
