The result of the match shocked many as it was assumed that Mahal and Lesnar would face off in a champion vs. champion match - especially considering how much time WWE spent building up the feud.
But Styles will soon have to defend before long. According to WrestlingInc.com, WWE announced a series of matches set to take place at Starrcade which will be six days after Survivor Series. The big one on the card? A.J. Styles vs. Jinder Mahal in a Steel Cage match for the WWE Championship.
And if the current reports are accurate, Mahal will regain his WWE Championship soon. Dave Meltzer recently speculated that Mahal is going to win his championship back before WWE heads onto its tour in India on December 9.
Starrcade is set to take place on Nov. 25, so that only gives Mahal two weeks to win the title. Considering there are no other pay-per-view events before the India tour, it's only logical for Mahal to beat Styles at Starrcade.
Mahal's first reign as WWE Champion lasted 170 days, and it included victories against top stars like Shinsuke Nakamura and Randy Orton. But Mahal's lack of in-ring skills and controversial character was often criticized by fans and pundits. It'll be interesting to see if WWE tries to tweak his second tenure as champion - assuming he actually does re-capture it from Styles.
Starrcade was WCW's main pay-per-view show (equivalent to WWE's WrestleMania), but hasn't been in use since 2000. It'll be the first show for Starrcade under WWE's ownership.
Ric Flair - who will appear at the event - headlined nine different Starrcades. With Mahal also set to face Styles, everything is adding up for an excellent show.
