Alberto Del Rio spoke with Nos Cayó La Noche in Mexico and said he's been in talks with WWE about a return and hopes do so in a few months.

The former WWE Champion, League of Nations member and lightning rod for criticism said he is now semi-retired but has spoken with WWE about coming back. In fact, he's hopeful to once again call himself a WWE Superstar by the middle of this year.

Del Rio said, "We have been in communication. We have rebuilt the bridge. On their part, they were wrong on some decisions and I also did some things wrong on my part." After admitting their past relationship has been a bit tumultuous at times, he added, "I am hoping that we can reach an agreement sometime this year or by the middle of this year I’ll be back there."

Del Rio was been released and brought back by WWE multiple times. Once, in August 2014 and the reason was explained as “due to unprofessional conduct and an altercation with an employee”. He then returned in October 2015 and immediately won the United States Championship from John Cena. In September 2016, WWE agreed to release Del Rio from his contract. At the time, there was a lot of controversy surrounding his relationship with Paige.

Update: WWE Apparently Denies Rumors

Fightful Select is reporting that they reached out to the WWE after Alberto Del Rio made his remarks and a source in the company called the claim “bullsh*t.” Clearly, Del Rio has misread his status with WWE.

Apparently, they went on to add that WWE sees Paige as far more valuable to the company than anything Del Rio could do and that they're not willing to risk upsetting Paige, who, at one time, had rather toxic relationship with Del Rio.

This doesn't bring into account the many times Del Rio has publicly called out Triple H, even though he's stated he's apologized and he's back on good terms with WWE.
