After spending the last two and a half years as a major babyface, Seth Rollins once again flipped back to the dark side, attacking Kevin Owens at the end of Monday Night Raw to solidify another heel turn.

Rollins had been pushed as the top face in WWE throughout most of 2019. He won the men's Royal Rumble match and defeated Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship on two separate occasions.

But Rollins was starting to receive less cheers and more boos during his reign as the Universal Champion, especially while in a feud with Bray Wyatt - who dethroned him at Crown Jewel.

So how did the Rollins heel turn come to be, and what are the plans for it going forward? Bryan Alvarez of Wrestling Observer Radio (h/t Paul Davis of Wrestling News) was able to provide some insight.

Alvarez said that The Architect "has some wacky idea for his character...everybody hates him now but he’s right." So essentially, Rollins will compete "as a babyface," even though he's really a bad guy now.

Not only that, but Alvarez also added that it was actually Rollins' suggestion to turn bad guy. The plan, according to Alvarez, is now for the former Universal Champion to portray somebody who feels as though "the fans are being unfair to WWE."

On this week's episode of Raw, Rollins gathered the roster around the ring and berated and insulted the superstars for coming up short at Survivor Series. With that, everything had been set in stone for his heel turn to take place - and it would finally take place at the end of the show.

Rollins' Heel Turn Was For The Better

Oftentimes, WWE doesn't understand when a superstar has lost their steam as a babyface. But creative deserves credit for pulling the plug on Rollins as the No. 1 face of Raw, because his popularity was quickly regressing. One can easily argue that Rollins is best suited as a heel, but if anything else, it's just nice to have a breath of fresh air here. Simply put, WWE and Rollins won't regret pulling off the heel turn.
