Backstage Notes On The Booking Of Sasha Vs. Charlotte

There was a lot of heavy discussion going into the Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte Flair match last weekend. The Wrestling Observer reports that Vince McMahon had been against the match closing the show, but may have given in the night before the show. Triple H and most of the creative team had been pushing hard for the match to main event.

Original plans had Sasha retaining the title as late as the production meeting the before the event. The plan would have seen the Banks/Flair feud end, with Charlotte moving on to feud with Bayley.

Vince however, changed his mind and had Charlotte win. The explanation given by Dave Meltzer of the Observer was that officials were made aware of the finish the day of the event and weren't swerved into anything, like the Brock Lesnar/Undertaker match at WrestleMania XXX.

The reason for the change has nothing to do with heat on Sasha or Sasha being hurt. It also had nothing to do with Charlotte's undefeated PPV streak.

In addition to all this information, two huge spots were taken out of the match out of fear Sasha would suffer an injury. One spot was apparently a moonsault from the Cell by Charlotte. Ric Flair appeared on Busted Open Radio this week and said:

"They took two huge spots out of the match, during the match, because they were afraid Sasha [Banks] was going to get hurt. If the original plan had been, there were two things and I don't want to say what they were, but you can only imagine. One of them involved a moonsault."
