WWE announced its first two entrants in the 2020 WWE Hall of Fame, and both are more than worthy. On top of the induction of the nWo, WWE is also inducting "The Animal" Batista, following his retirement match at WrestleMania earlier this year. This is very deserving, as he was one of the top stars in the company throughout the Ruthless Aggression Era.

While fans were not happy with Batista's final runs with WWE, mostly due to the booking and writing, he had a career that made him one of the top stars in the company for years. He held multiple world titles and was arguably as crucial to the success of the era as John Cena — both as a babyface and a heel. Here is a look at the five reasons that Batista was better as a babyface, and five reasons why he was a perfect heel.

10 BABYFACE: TRIPLE H MOMENT

When Batista came into WWE, he worked for a short time as the second for D-Von Dudley, but then he quickly moved on and joined Evolution with Triple H, Randy Orton, and Ric Flair. It was here that fans started to notice how great Batista was. Then, the fans wanted to see Batista out on his own.

That moment came when Batista won the Royal Rumble and got to choose which world champion he would face. While Triple H tried to point him away from his title, Batista gave his boss the thumb's down, put Triple H through a table, and instantly became the biggest babyface in WWE.

9 HEEL: TRUE MONSTER

Before Batista came to the main roster, he worked in developmental where many future stars had strange gimmicks. John Cena was a part-robot part-man known as Prototype. Batista was a monster that came from the depths of the ocean known as Leviathan. He became that monster.

In WWE, Batista put on a suit and looked very different, carried himself very different, and worked as one of the top stars in the company. However, when he got into the ring, he was still a monster. He could destroy anyone he fought, and those wrestlers are always better off terrorizing babyfaces than heels, making him the perfect villain.

8 BABYFACE: CLEARLY RESPECTFUL

Batista has never been able to hide the fact that he has a ton of respect for wrestling, for other wrestlers, and even for the fans. He comes across as one of the nicest guys in the business, and that makes it hard for fans to really hate him, even if they did get sick of him as a babyface in his last runs.

Even then, Batista made it clear that he knew fans wanted him to be a heel, and he wanted to give them what they wanted. Batista is almost impossible to hate once people get to see him in real life. Look at how he looks at Ric Flair and see a man who has so much respect for everyone around him.

7 HEEL: DISPLAYED ARROGANCE PERFECTLY

While Batista is clearly one of the most respectful men ever to step foot in the ring, he is also a good actor. As made evident with performances in Guardians of the Galaxy and Blade Runner 2049, Batista can play a role given to him to perfection, and he perfected the role of the arrogant heel in WWE.

Put him in the ring with a mic and a spotlight, and he can have the entire crowd booing him instantly. When he came back from Hollywood to get his world title reign that never ended up happening, and he knew that fans wanted to see him as a heel, and when WWE was forced into it, he slid right into the role perfectly.

6 BABYFACE: THE FANS LOVED HIM

Batista is someone that, for a very long time, fans wanted to love. He had the perfect look, and when he turned on the charm, he was someone that they easily slid over to and started cheering. When Batista turned on Triple H and Evolution, the fans went ballistic. They wanted to see him destroy the men they hated.

When Batista was a babyface, the fans exploded every time he came to the ring, and it took a lot for him to turn the fans against him. It might be hard for younger fans who only know about his last two runs to understand, but he was one of the most over wrestlers in WWE for a long time.

5 HEEL: ANTITHESIS TO JOHN CENA

When people look back on the Ruthless Aggression Era of WWE, they saw two men standing at the top of the roster as the biggest names in the company. While many call John Cena the face of that generation (as well as the face of the PG-era), fans at the time knew the truth.

John Cena was the top star (1a), and Batista was right there next to him (1b). They were that close. Cena refused to turn heel no matter what fans wanted, and Batista knew turning heel was best for his business. That is why, when the never say die babyface John Cena battled the ruthless heel Batista, it was such a great moment.

4 BABYFACE: GREAT "BIG BROTHER"

There were moments where Batista was the best friend someone could have. When Rey Mysterio needed help, Batista was there to stand by his side. A big man helping the little guy made fans love Batista even more. Of course, when Batista turned on him, that solidified his heel status.

Batista came to Jim Ross' aid when Edge berated him, which helped CM Punk win the world title. Batista was there when Ric Flair needed him. Batista was the best friend a person could have —until he wasn't.

3 HEEL: EVOLUTION

When Batista first hit the big time, it was as a member of Evolution. He tore through the babyfaces to protect Triple H. He destroyed Randy Orton to protect Triple H. Finally, Batista turned on Triple H. However, as the muscle of Evolution, he was great.

When fans turned on him in his return to WWE, Batista rejoined Evolution. It was the perfect fit, with The Animal as an ideal heel to face The Shield that summer. Batista in Evolution is the perfect fit for the heel version of The Animal.

2 BABYFACE: AGGRESSIVE AND EXCITING

Batista was a big man wrestler, a monster who could tear through anyone and just destroy anyone in his path. Look at Braun Strowman today, and see that is something fans love. When Edge was humiliating Jim Ross on Monday Night Raw, Batista ran down and beat Edge to the point where CM Punk had an easy Money in the Bank cash in.

When Batista's music starts, fans are on their feet. When his pyro explodes, they are screaming. Batista is exciting and received similar responses to Ultimate Warrior. He was that good as a babyface.

1 HEEL: BELIEVED IN HIMSELF AS A HEEL

While fans loved to cheer Batista, he knew that was not what he was best at. Batista knew that he was best when he put on his sunglasses, sauntered down to the ring, and insulted the current top babyface. He knew he was at his best when he slammed John Cena, literally and figuratively.

Batista knew that when the lights went down and the spotlight came on, he could bury any opponent in front of him with a smirk, holding the fans in the palm of his hands. He hated coming back as a babyface because Batista knew he was a natural heel. Few men were better in WWE history as the monster heel.
