Former WWE superstar Batista revealed that he will be a playable character in upcoming video game Gears of War 5 this week, getting a step closer to playing Marcus Fenix in the film adaptation.

The movie has already been confirmed and Batista has been clamoring for the role for quite some time now. While it's not quite his wish, the erstwhile wrestler will be part of the game - it releases today for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers and on September 10 for everyone else - and that should suffice for now.

You'll be able to play as "The Animal" in the game's multiplayer mode and the developers have revealed that he will have the same abilities as Fenix, with a few additions to give players an authentic Batista feel.

Batista won't be part of the game upon release, though, and will be added as DLC following Clash of Champions on September 15. The devs say players will be able to unlock him as long as they play from the 15th through to the end of the month.

You could have a behind-the-scenes look at the 50-year-old putting on his Gears suit for the first time in the video below, with the movie star joining Xavier Woods' UpUpDownDown YouTube gaming channel to give us a sneak peak.

Batista Looks Set For A Future Role With The gears Franchise

Also, it appears that Batista could land the Fenix role when the movie goes into production. Collide and xXx: Return of Xander Cage writer F. Scott Frazier is the one tasked with writing the screenplay for the film and we really can't wait to see how this all goes down.

“I’ve been pursuing Gears of War for years now,” Batista told GameSpot last year. “I believe it’s in the hands of Universal Studios. And I’ve been knocking on their door and badgering them and they are so sick of me phoning in and asking them where they are with that project. But, yes, Marcus Fenix is absolutely a dream role for me. I want that role.”

The game will be available to play for Game Pass subscribers but gamers who pre-ordered the Ultimate Edition will also be able to play it today. There are certain retailers who already have physical copies on sale so, if you're lucky enough, you could get your hands on one.
