PWI has released its top 100 female wrestlers in the world for the past 12 months, and was the number one spot ever really in any doubt?

For decades, Pro Wrestling Illustrated has had its say on who are the best wrestlers in the world each and every year. The issue in which it details the top 500 wrestlers in the world is easily its most anticipated. However, that might be about to change. PWI has also listed the top female wrestlers in the world each year since 2000, as well as a few times during the 1970s.

Thanks to the women's revolution, PWI's Women's 100 now garners a lot more attention than it ever has before. This year's results are in, and since the wrestlers included are judged on the past 12 months, there was only ever going to be one person at the top of the pile. That person is, of course, Becky Lynch.

Lynch has responded to being named the best female wrestler in the world by tweeting, "every number here is debatable, except number one." Hard to argue with The Man on that one. Over the course of the past year, Lynch has broken out like no one else in the business, male or female. Plus, she won the first-ever women's WrestleMania main event.

Unsurprisingly, Charlotte Flair is at number two. However, somewhat surprisingly, the third woman from that WrestleMania main event, Ronda Rousey, is in at number three. There's no questioning how great a year Rousey had when in WWE, and how quickly she took to the business like a duck to water. Some might argue her placing third since Rousey hasn't wrestled another match since that WrestleMania loss.

Shayna Baszler is fourth, and the fifth spot is occupied by the highest-ranking non-WWE Superstar on this list this year, Tessa Blanchard. What's exciting about Blanchard right now is rumor has it she is done with Impact Wrestling. Perhaps she could soon show up in WWE and start having matches with the only four female Superstars in the PWI 100 that are considered better than her.
