The predictable nature of the WWE is harming the company's product with each passing year because of the dirt sheets revealing the outcomes of many results before WWE can even stage an event. News is leaked by wrestling websites all around and really taint WWE's attempt at doing something surprising, but there are times when WWE gets the upper-hand and does something which catches everyone by surprise.

While it's hard to really do anything about some employee leaking out inside information to dirt sheets and allowing many important feuds and plans to leak, there are times when Vince McMahon keeps things only to himself and his most trusted advisors in order to truly shock the fans. There might have been a lack of  unpredictable segments in WWE over the years, but there have been some things which completely swerved the fans. There have been times when the swerves were successful because of how intricately WWE had planned to shock the fans and were executed perfectly to really surprise even the smartest of wrestling fans.

But there have also been some times when WWE just botched their swerves, which ended up as flops because of how poorly the end result was presented to fans. So here we take a look at the 8 best and 7 worst times WWE swerved its fans.

15 Best: Brock Lesnar & Vince McMahon's Backstage Altercation After WrestleMania 34

via bigplay.com

WrestleMania 34 was definitely the show full of swerves as some really surprising stuff happened all throughout the night, but the biggest swerve was at the end, and arguably even after the show had ended. After Brock Lesnar had shockingly retained his Universal Championship at the Grandest Stage of Them All, there were rumors circulating that he had a heated scuffle with Vince McMahon backstage. Apparently, Vince was angry at Brock for "going off script" during the match, resulting in Brock throwing the Universal Title at McMahon or at a wall. Many had to intervene before things got heated and even Shane McMahon came up to confront Brock and was allegedly "ready to fight him". This sounded very interesting before it was confirmed that it was all a big swerve dealt with perfection by WWE, who wanted to troll everyone and did that amazingly with this ingenious swerve.

14 Worst: John Stewart Costs John Cena The WWE Championship

via rollingstone.com

The SummerSlam 2015 match between Seth Rollins and John Cena was a monumental one because of how the WWE Championship and the US Championship were on the line in this champion vs champion match. The match itself was a great one, with both Rollins and Cena providing an instant classic, but it ended with a big swerve. John Stewart, who was the host of SummerSlam and teasing a feud with Rollins prior to the event, turned on Cena and hit him with a steel chair, allowing the Architect to get the win. While it was quite surprising, the swerve itself was a horrible one because there was no need for WWE to have Stewart pull off this stunt. It obviously didn't go well with many fans and WWE's attempt at gaining mainstream stardom with this swerve didn't work well at all.

13 Best: Charlotte Flair Breaks Asuka's Undefeated Streak

via givemesport.com

When WWE decided to have Asuka win the inaugural Women's Royal Rumble match earlier this year, it looked certain that she would win her first main roster title at WrestleMania 34 and fans were excited to see her dethrone "The Queen" Charlotte Flair to win the Smackdown's Women's Championship at the grandest stage of them all. It looked certain that Asuka would win the title as some rumors even indicated that her undefeated streak might last till WrestleMania 35 and it looked certain that even Charlotte wasn't ready for Asuka. The feud was even built accordingly that it looked obvious that Asuka was winning, but WWE pulled a big swerve when they had Asuka tap out to Charlotte, allowing her to retain the title. In the end, this actually felt like a terrific swerve, as it even made sense for Asuka's streak to be broken by someone of Charlotte's caliber.

12 Worst: Batista Wins The 2014 Royal Rumble

via wwe.com

The fans were quite excited to hear that Batista would be returning to the Royal Rumble match in 2014 as WWE hyped up his return quite a lot knowing his mainstream stardom back then. The Animal appeared in a decent position and seemed set to cause some destruction before being eventually eliminated, something which normally occurs in such matches. But the WWE seemingly had other ideas as they actually had him win the match in what was a very bad swerve and left a bitter feeling among the fans. Ironically, it was actually Roman Reigns whom the fans wanted to win because of how dominant The Big Dog was during the match and eliminated so many superstars. But Batista eliminated him, in the end, to emerge victorious and this swerve felt poorly timed knowing how Batista was only a part-timer and would leave WWE soon after.

11 Best: Jinder Mahal Wins The WWE Championship

via hindustantimes.com

Nobody really expected Jinder Mahal to rise up to become a main-eventer when he got drafted to Smackdown Live in the Superstar Shakeup last year, but the Modern Day Maharaja actually got the opportunity to face Randy Orton for the WWE Championship at Backlash last year. Even after his push, people really thought that he was just a one-time opponent for Orton who would face more "credible" competitors for the title later on. But what happened at Backlash was a swerve nobody expected, as Mahal actually went onto win the WWE Championship thanks to some help from the Singh Brothers. This swerve was actually played out to perfection by the WWE who really caught the fans off-guard and enabled the former "jobber" Mahal to rise as the top heel of the Blue Brand, something which no one could've predicted would ever happen in the WWE.

10 Worst: Hornswoggle Revealed As Anonymous Raw General Manager

via popculture.com

The Anonymous Raw General Manager was a really intriguing thing many years back as it was in the form of a laptop through which Michael Cole read out instructions from a GM who desired to remain anonymous. While it worked pretty well and hilariously enraged wrestlers to try and "destroy" the GM, the final announcement about who was truly the man sending the instructions was hyped quite a bit. Many thought it would be Stone Cold Steve Austin or even Kevin Nash, but in the end, WWE pulled a big swerve by having it be Hornswoggle, who was revealed to be sending messages from under the ring. This was a really terrible swerve as Hornswoggle being the GM made no sense at all and absolutely enraged the fans who were definitely expecting a big, shocking name to be revealed as the anonymous general manager.

9 Best: Mark Henry's "Retirement" On Raw

via wwe.com

Mark Henry had a glittering career in the WWE, but his best work came in his late years with the company where he had a terrific angle of his "Hall of Pain" and won the World Heavyweight Championship during that reign. But it seemed like Henry's WWE career had come to an end in 2013 when it was rumored that he would retire and Henry even appeared on an episode of Monday Night Raw where he said that he would do so. His emotional speech was enough to get anyone teared up and even forced John Cena to come down and give him a farewell, but then Henry swerved everyone by pummeling Cena with the World's Strongest Slam. It turned out to be a swerve played to perfection by Henry and WWE, as it left the fans shocked and delighted at how amazingly WWE had genuinely fooled them.

8 Worst: Brodus Clay's Re-Debut

via wwe.com

Brodus Clay looked fit to be WWE's new monster heel in 2012 after he left being the bodyguard of Alberto Del Rio and looked to earn his own dominance in the WWE. It even seemed like Clay will be a terrorizing monster heel figure and WWE even sent out promos hyping his re-debut which would see him be this destructive character. But his debut was delayed for a long time by John Laurinaitis before he finally appeared on WWE Raw but not as a monster heel at all. Clay would be this entertaining, dancing character who had his own cheerleaders he called the "Funkadactyl" and himself as the "Funkasaurus". He did enjoy some dominance and received a push as this character, but it absolutely ruined the fans expectations of them and this weird swerve didn't help either, as poor Brodus would soon vanish into obscurity before leaving WWE.

7 Best: Eric Bischoff As Raw General Manager

via wrestlingnewssource.com

When WWE bought up WCW in 2001, many wondered exactly whom from their "rivals" they would sign because of how WCW still had a stacked roster even in their dying days. While some of their signings of in-ring competitors were underwhelming, Vince McMahon pulled out a real swerve when he decided to bring his arch-nemesis Eric Bischoff to WWE and make him the general manager of Raw. So in an episode of Raw in 2002, McMahon decided to name a new GM and out came Bischoff to the disbelieve of not only the fans but the wrestlers in the back as well! Nobody could believe what they were seeing, with McMahon proving how much of an eccentric genius he is with this amazing swerved. What followed was arguably the best RAW General Manager stint of the 21st century and Bischoff repaid Vince's faith in him superbly.

6 Worst: Baron Corbin's Failed MITB Cash-In

via wwe.com

Baron Corbin looked set to become Smackdown Live's top heel last year when he won the Money in the Bank ladder match and earned the opportunity to cash in his briefcase to become WWE Champion whenever he wanted to. It seemed like Corbin was destined to win the WWE Championship and rumors spread about him winning it before SummerSlam, but WWE had something different on their minds. So a few weeks before SummerSlam, Corbin wanted to cash in on Jinder Mahal and looked set to win, before WWE swerved us by having John Cena interfere and allow Mahal to sneak in a victory. This awful swerve took away all the credibility Corbin had earned over the year, as it was apparently a punishment for him having a poor attitude backstage and being made to be the victim of this horrible swerve.

5 Best: CM Punk's Pipebomb

via cagesideseats.com

CM Punk might be remembered for many things by wrestling fans, but one thing which will be memorable forever is his infamous "Pipebomb" on Raw when he decided to reveal some "real" things about WWE. As Punk's contract with WWE was coming to an end just at the time when he challenged John Cena for his WWE Championship, he decided that it was time to "reveal" his feelings on WWE. In this "pipebomb", he thrashed Vince McMahon and everything he hated about WWE, not even sparing the fans who he lashed out on. This promo triggered many to think whether it was a shoot and got a lot of mainstream attention as well, but it was all a worked shoot and a swerve at that. Nobody could've expected this to happen that night on Raw, as this amazing swerve made for one of the best promos in WWE history.

4 Worst: The Emmalina Reveal

Via Youtube.com

Emmalina was a thing of much fascination a year back when female star Emma got a repackaging and became this sexy diva character who was teased for a LONG time by the WWE. They made the fans wait for months for the reveal of Emmalina and even though she was teased to debut on Raw on more than one occasion, she finally appeared in February during an episode of Raw. While she looked fine wearing a gorgeous golden dress, Emmalina quickly changed her attitude and swerved the fans by stating that she's going back to being Emma. This foolish swerve made no sense and killed the hype surrounding the character of Emmalina who gained a lot of fans, and it not only angered the fans but put the final nail in the coffin of Emma's WWE career as well.

3 Best: Brock Lesnar Retains The Universal Championship At WrestleMania 34

via GiveMeSport

The Universal Championship match at WrestleMania 34 was arguably the most "predictable" match of the card before the event, as everyone was certain that Roman Reigns was going to slay the beast and win the title. With rumors stating that Mania 34 would be Lesnar's final date with WWE, it looked bang on that The Big Dog would be victorious and finally win something from The Beast Incarnate. But what occurred at the event was something nobody expected as Lesnar absolutely mauled Reigns in a brutal match and after six F5s, he pinned The Big Dog to retain his title. This amazing swerve absolutely shocked everyone as fans didn't know what was going to happen with Lesnar retaining the title. This swerve was perfectly played out by WWE, who made everyone realize how they still had it in them to genuinely shock the fans.

2 Worst: James Ellsworth Turns Heel On Dean Ambrose

via wwe.com

James Ellsworth was quite the entertaining character on Smackdown Live! a few years ago when he hilariously got two wins over AJ Styles and even "earned" the opportunity to wrestle the Phenomenal One for the WWE Champion. Ellsworth was the comedy act in Dean Ambrose's feud with AJ Styles, but he decided to move on from that when he turned heel on the Lunatic Fringe at TLC 2016. It was a brutal encounter between the two and Ambrose looked set to regain the WWE Championship, before Ellsworth pushed him off the ladder and allowed Styles to retain his title. It was quite the stupid swerve and completely ruined Ambrose's reputation as a main-event star and Ellsworth was also disliked by the fans for all the wrong reasons because he was part of this awful swerve which was just a case of bad booking by WWE.

1 Best: Seth Rollins' "Heist Of The Century" At WrestleMania 31

via rumblingrumors.com

Seth Rollins was already a big heel in the WWE heading in WrestleMania 31 with his Money in the Bank Briefcase, which he had held for a long time but couldn't cash it in on Brock Lesnar. Rollins' night started with a disappointment when he lost to Randy Orton, but he reserved the best for last when he swerved everyone by deciding to cash in his briefcase during the Main event of WrestleMania. It was a hard-hitting contest between Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns and at one point, both wrestlers were down and out because of fatigue, when suddenly Rollins came down the ramp and cashed in his briefcase. He won the WWE Championship in what would be a big heist and probably the "Swerve of the Century", with this segment completely catching the fans off-guard and proving how WWE was well and truly capable of serving delightful surprises.
