Many talented performers would never get the honor of working together for a strong match. However, when a company does put effort into creating one, the anticipation and hype will be off the charts if done correctly.

10 Lived up to hype: Finn Balor vs AJ Styles

The match was a last-minute change as Bray Wyatt was dealing with an illness and Styles was called to replace him at TLC 2017 against Balor. Fans loved the change and the match proved to be a huge success that everyone enjoyed.

9 Flopped: Goldberg vs The Rock

The debut of Goldberg in WWE came in 2003 with a rivalry forming against The Rock. Goldberg waited a few years after WCW went out of business before making the move to WWE. Rock had his final program of the year against Goldberg before leaving for more acting roles.

Goldberg was given a great opportunity to defeat one of the biggest stars in a dream match. The match itself disappointed as Goldberg struggled to have competent longer bout. Fans booed him even in the winning performance.

8 Lived up to hype: Brock Lesnar vs Daniel Bryan

Daniel Bryan was not shy about his desire to have a dream match with Brock Lesnar for many years. The end of Bryan’s retirement saw him cleared to compete and returning to action. Bryan won the WWE Championship after a heel turn to dethrone AJ Styles.

The Survivor Series brand warfare set-up saw Bryan facing off against Universal Champion Brock Lesnar. Despite playing his new heel character, Bryan still pulled off a flawless story as the smaller underdog putting up a great fight against "The Beast" before falling short.

7 Flopped: Sting vs Hulk Hogan

WCW saved the first Sting vs Hulk Hogan match for the incredible storyline of Sting trying to stop the New World Order. Hogan’s mind games caused many fans and wrestlers to question Sting’s loyalty to WCW and that created the "Cro"w version of his character.

Starrcade 1997 had a world of hype as arguably the biggest WCW PPV of all-time due to the interest in the main event. Hogan and Sting, unfortunately, had a terrible match with even worse booking that took away from the results.

6 Lived up to hype: Shinsuke Nakamura vs Sami Zayn

NXT saved a big dream match for WrestleMania weekend when Shinsuke Nakamura made his debut in 2016. Nakamura was viewed as one of the biggest signings in WWE history. Sami Zayn was selected to face Nakamura in his first match after coming back from an injury himself.

The first NXT match for Nakamura and the last NXT match for Zayn saw both men putting up a great performance. Zayn and Nakamura had the match that fans most loved from the entire weekend. Nakamura won to start his WWE career in grand fashion.

5 Flopped: Brock Lesnar vs Triple H

WWE never had a program between Brock Lesnar and Triple H during Lesnar’s first run in WWE since both men were primarily on different brands. Triple H and Lesnar finally squared off as Brock’s second major storyline in his second run after losing to John Cena.

The trio of matches between Lesnar and Triple H disappointed. Brock won two out of three, but fans just didn’t view it as a huge attraction. Their first match at Summerslam 2012 was a huge disappointment in the main event spot as their worst outing.

4 Lived up to hype: The Rock vs Hulk Hogan

One of the biggest dream matches in WWE history came when Hulk Hogan returned to the company in 2002. WWE selected The Rock to become the first major opponent of Hogan at WrestleMania 18 in a massive attraction match.

Hogan turned back the clock with arguably the best performance of his career. The electricity of the crowd made the match truly iconic. Rock’s incredible work and Hogan’s connection with the audience created an all-time great spectacle.

3 Flopped: The Undertaker vs Goldberg

WWE waited too long to plan a dream match between Goldberg and The Undertaker. Vince McMahon wanted to come up with a huge attraction for one of the Saudi Arabia shows that are usually centered around nostalgia and veterans.

Goldberg and Undertaker both struggled to move around in the ring and had a few botches. It was viewed as possibly the most embarrassing performances of their respective careers. Undertaker won the match, but everyone came out a loser for that one.

2 Lived up to hype: Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels

WrestleMania 21 featured the billed dream match between Kurt Angle and Shawn Michaels. WWE knew that the diehard fans would have a strong desire to see two of the all-time great in-ring performers having a match on the biggest stage.

Angle and Michaels delivered incredible performances proving they deserved to have it called a dream match. It was viewed as an all-time great WrestleMania match and still holds up as strongly today. Both men showed what the best result is for a highly anticipated dream match.

1 Flopped: Roman Reigns vs John Cena

Roman Reigns and John Cena felt like the biggest possible dream match for WWE in 2017. The movement to make Reigns the face of the company would see Cena still viewed as the better person for that role by fans.

Both men got quite personal on the microphone and created a huge interest in the dream match. Unfortunately, the clash itself was a huge disappointment. It wasn’t viewed as anything special and was wasted on a secondary PPV like No Mercy.
