The better stories sometimes created memorable moments while the worse ones are barely remembered. Find out which wrestlers had the best and worst return hype videos ever.

10 Best: Kurt Angle

Kurt Angle

WWE wrote Kurt Angle off after WrestleMania 19 due to his severe neck injury at the time requiring surgery. The eventual return would see Angle coming back as a face character for his hard-fought recovery rather than the obnoxious heel he played before the time off.

One of the ways to further change his character was Angle getting a tremendous hype video to the song of “Clocks” by Coldplay. The video featured Angle discussing his desire to come back stronger than ever with his best moments showcasing the in-ring greatness.

9 Worst: Brodus Clay

Brodus Clay

The end of Brodus Clay’s run as Alberto Del Rio’s bodyguard would see him taking off television for months. WWE started running videos showing Clay with a serious demeanor setting up his return as his own character.

The bigger reveal came as a fake-out when Brodus started dancing and played a comedic face character. Clay likely would have benefited more from the buzz of the shock from his dancing to set up a bigger pop rather than just pure confusion when it happened

8 Best: Mr. Perfect

Mr. Perfect

WWE went with the simple yet effective route of having vignettes hyping up the returns of a few wrestlers in the 2002 Royal Rumble match. Mr. Perfect was the most anticipated of the names when making his return for the first time since his WCW run.

The old videos showcasing his great moments delivering athletic feats along with his best in-ring moments. WWE did the right move by using his old entrance music to add to the nostalgia. Perfect received a huge pop when returning in the Rumble match.

7 Worst: Hardcore Holly

Hardcore Holly

A real injury to Hardcore Holly suffered in a match against Brock Lesnar was used for his big return to the SmackDown brand. Holly was a lower mid-card act before the injury and the hype videos made it clear he was coming back to a bigger push.

WWE ran videos referencing the injury with Holly’s intense story having him looking to get revenge. Brock was attacked by Holly multiple times following his return before a lackluster match for the WWE Championship. The videos didn’t do enough to make fans buy Holly as a serious threat to Lesnar.

6 Best: The Undertaker

The Undertaker

There have been a few different hype videos to set up a great history of returns for The Undertaker. However, the biggest shift came when Undertaker took time off in 1999 to come back with a new gimmick of the American Badass.

The hype videos were spooky and mysterious with children signing that someone was coming back heading into the Judgment Day 2000 PPV. Undertaker was rumored, but the mystery element of change would see fans reacting huge when the legend arrived on a motorcycle sporting a new look.

5 Worst: Eva Marie

Eva Marie

WWE recently made headlines with the return of Eva Marie via a hype video. The belief was that Eva would become one of the top female performer of the future for WWE, but she flopped with each opportunity.

There was a solid push in 2016 until Eva was suspended for violating the wellness policy leading to her release. WWE's videos show Eva sees her claiming the Eva-lution will take over. The start of this return is already a bad look coming after multiple better female workers were released and the company going back to the well of someone who couldn't wrestle at a high level.

4 Best: Chris Jericho

Chris Jericho

The various returns of Chris Jericho to WWE throughout the years always came in spectacular fashion. Jericho’s 2012 return was planned to be bigger than usual due to his upcoming WWE Championship program challenging CM Punk heading into WrestleMania season.

WWE started showing mysterious hype videos of kids in a school with the phrase “it begins” being used every time. Jericho was the obvious favorite, but the suspense added to the reveal. Fans were talking most about the videos each night leading up to Jericho coming back.

3 Worst: Dustin Rhodes

Seven

WCW found their way on the wrong side of the list by bringing back Dustin Rhodes as the character of Seven in 1999. Dustin was shown in vignettes in an all-black outfit and white face paint looking into the windows of children sleeping.

The complaints led to Turner stepping in and demanding Vince Russo cancel the Seven gimmick due to the implication of potential abduction. Dustin would debut with the Seven gimmick before claiming it was all a ruse and he would never play another outlandish character like Goldust in WWE.

2 Best: Triple H

Triple H

The heelwork of Triple H was second to none in 2001, but the fan base fell in love with him due to how he handled an injury. Triple H finished a tag match teaming with Steve Austin against Chris Jericho and Chris Benoit with a torn quad and even took the Walls of Jericho finisher while in pain.

WWE realized that fans were desperate to cheer Triple H when he returned in early 2002. Hype videos set to the tune of U2’s smash hit “Beautiful Day” showed candid footage from Triple H’s surgery and recovery.

The combination of witnessing his greatest moments and the real redemption story made the videos put Triple H’s return over the top. WWE witnessed Triple H receive an all-time pop in his big return night at Madison Square Garden.

1 Worst: Lord Tensai

Lord Tensai

The gimmicks of A-Train and Albert didn’t work to help Matt Bloom became a top player in WWE. NJPW signed him to play the character of Giant Bernard which provided a tremendous resurgence as a top heel in Japan.

WWE eventually reached back out with the hope of a return as a top heel. The new name of Lord Tensai was used in the hype videos looking to add importance to his return. Fans showed zero interest in Tensai’s comeback in a feud against John Cena due to the weak videos creating no buzz.
