The NXT roster was pretty full of themselves during the SmackDown invasion, but perhaps they were lucky the brand's champion wasn't in attendance.

When we first heard that WWE would be going ahead as planned with SmackDown the day after Crown Jewel, we were skeptical, to say the least. Turns out that skepticism was warranted. Due to technical difficulties, the majority of the SmackDown roster was either mid-flight or still on the ground in Saudi Arabia when Friday night's show went live.

That meant WWE had to do some last-minute rewriting, not something the blue brand's creative team will have been unfamiliar with. However, this was a script change of a different type. Reports were swirling that WWE employees back in the US were calling upon the NXT roster to come and save the day and that they did. The black and gold brand invaded SmackDown and left an indelible mark.

Shayna Baszler left Bayley laying. Tomasso Ciampa defeated The Miz, and Adam Cole retained his NXT Championship against Daniel Bryan. Triple H closed the show stood in the ring with the NXT Superstars he brought with him, declaring war on Raw and SmackDown ahead of the three brands clashing at Survivor Series. As Big E pointed out on Twitter though, NXT's "win" over SmackDown was a hollow one.

That's due to the whole reason they were even there. Because SmackDown's roster was absent. Big E highlighted Bray Wyatt's absence, in particular, as a reason why invading NXT Superstars should be afraid. "When The Fiend eats a Bro Derek, Panama Sunrise, a piledriver on the cement, a wooden stake in the heart, gets flattened by a steamroller like Wile E. Coyote and just giggles," Big E tweeted.

The New Day member is, of course, referencing the new Universal Champion's title win at Crown Jewel on Thursday. No matter how many times Seth Rollins stomped The Fiend, Wyatt would not stay down. NXT's roster might be cocky right now, and deservedly so, but Wyatt is SmackDown's secret weapon. Nothing can keep him down, and that goes for anything any NXT Superstar will be able to throw at him in the coming weeks.
