Kofi Kingston's illustrious and unforgettable run with the WWE Championship came to an abrupt and disappointing end on the Oct. 4 episode of SmackDown Live, where Brock Lesnar defeated him in a matter of seconds to win the title.

Kingston the lovable and feel-good story after he defeated Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 35 to become WWE Champion for the first time. He held the title for six months and managed to retain it against other big-named talents like Randy Orton and Dolph Ziggler.

So fans had the right to feel let down when Lesnar, a part-time talent, received another major perk by quickly ending Kingston's reign as WWE Champion. The Beast Incarnate has been given more than enough major pushes and title reigns, after all.

But Kingston has always been a great team player for WWE, and there was no complaining or pouting when he dropped the title to Lesnar. He went out and did his thing - losing the title and moving back to the tag team division with Big E and Xavier Woods.

Though New Day had no choice but to put on a happy face, Big E admitted in an interview on After The Bell (h/t WrestlingInc.com) that he wasn't happy upon learning that Lesnar was going to make easy work of Kingston to become the new WWE Champion.

"Kofi Kingston is a lot more level-headed than maybe anyone else that I have met in the business because everyone else would have reacted - actually, I was irate when I found out about it and that is a testament to Kofi," explained Big E. "I'm not saying no one else in the industry, but very few people would have had that approach, but not many would have taken that approach and not have sour grapes and be able to move on."

However, Big E did say that Kingston's WWE Championship run "was a big win for" The New Day, and he credited Bryan for his work with Kingston. After all, not everybody gets to beat a superstar of his caliber on the Grandest Stage of Them All in a title match.

And for what it's worth, Kingston said that McMahon "had tears in his eyes," after his devastating loss to Lesnar. Even though Kingston's reign ended on a sour note, it was a remarkable journey that we won't be forgetting any time soon.

Big E Had The Right To Be Frustrated

It's safe to say that most WWE fans would have rather seen Kingston retain over Lesnar, but unfortunately, Vince McMahon and officials keep doing what they think might be best for business. Putting the title on a marquee name like Lesnar simply isn't necessary, considering that he's a big money draw with or without a championship. Kingston was flourishing as WWE Champion, and it's a shame that he was forced to drop it to a part-timer who simply doesn't need another title reign.
