The Royal Rumble is always the pay-per-view that has the most speculation surrounding it. From surprise entrants to match predictions that have a profound impact on WrestleMania, the Rumble kicks off the new calendar year and sets the tone for the WWE in a way that no other pay-per-view can do.
With that comes a lot of guesswork and predictions around which names might show up, who might win and who will go onto receive a mega push. It also makes us wonder how all this will affect WWE’s biggest show of the year, that in 2018, takes place in New Orleans.
So, knowing that the WWE Universe is expecting a few surprises, here are the five biggest rumors heading into the Royal Rumble on Sunday, January 28, 2018.
Daniel Bryan Wins It All
It’s a rumor that’s out there, but it’s hard to tell how much truth there is to it. Clearly, if Daniel Bryan is physically able and has passed medicals clearing him for active in-ring duty, having him win the Royal Rumble would be the highlight of the year. But to date, he’s not cleared and his entry into the match itself seems like a long shot.
That said, there is a lot that fans don’t know and while the Internet is pretty on top of things, this could be a closely guarded secret that the WWE has been steering people away from. The sheer shock and awe of him being a WWE competitor again would be enough to blow the roof off any stadium.
Stephanie McMahon Enters Women’s Rumble
With history on the line, the first female competitor to win a Royal Rumble match would be a big deal. It would also be a great way for a heel character like Stephanie McMahon to steal the spotlight and be immediately hated. There is speculation she’ll be sitting ringside for commentary on the match itself, and like announcers have done before, enter the Rumble.
New Faces Entering The Rumble
With only 18 official names announced for the Royal Rumble match itself, there are 12 spots still open for competitors and that could include some new faces. Ethan Carter III is the most talked about name and he could enter the Rumble match and do quite well.
He is rumored to be debuting with Rockstar Spudd and they would be a team (manager/talent). Whether he keeps his name or not is unknown but he does have the right to do so.
Roman Reigns To Win
After losing his Intercontinental Title to The Miz on Raw 25, it wasn’t crystal clear what was next for Roman Reigns. That is until he was officially announced as an entry into the Royal Rumble match.
Reigns is scheduled for a program with Brock Lesnar and he immediately moves to the top of the list in terms of favorites to win the battle royal. If he does, expect the crowd not to be too pleased. The WWE could try to find an interesting way to not have Reigns win the match but get him the title shot against Lesnar between the Rumble and WrestleMania.
Ronda Rousey Not Part Of The Rumble
Despite a large contingent of fans who would love to see Ronda Rousey make her debut at this year’s Royal Rumble, enter and go on to win the entire match, she shot down rumors of her involvement this week when she said she wouldn’t be there.
She’s on her way to Columbia to finish filming a movie and will be there until February. That means unless she’s purposely hiding her appearance, she’s won’t be part of the show. No word on if she’s officially signed a deal with the WWE yet or not.
