As we like to do every week, talking the most buzz-worthy rumors in the WWE has become an entertaining exercise. While these are just rumors and, in many cases, there is no real concrete proof some of what is being detailed will actually happen, we have it on good authority that there is some truth behind what people are hearing.
This week, we look at a couple of outside-the-WWE names that might be coming in soon, another batch of flu-like symptoms hitting the WWE locker room, Chris Jericho potentially returning in time for the Royal Rumble, and what exactly the WWE has planned for Shane McMahon and Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 34.
As fans always, do, have fun with the gossip and enjoy are your five biggest rumors in the WWE this week.
5. More Wrestlers Sick
Wrestling Inc reports that even though Enzo Amore was sent to the hospital due to illness last Monday, he was the only person who missed the show and he wasn’t out long. But, it is being reported that he was not the only Raw roster talent who was sick. Several members of the roster have been hit with flu-like symptoms.
If the illness doesn’t get under control, it could affect some of the matches or entries slated for the Royal Rumble. Right now, that doesn’t seem likely.
4. Lashley To WWE
Rumors are that Bobby Lashley is looking at a WWE return as soon as his Impact contract expires. He’d be just the next in line of a few big names looking to leave a sinking ship and rejoin WWE.
He may not be the only one debuting sooner than later. The recent SmackDown Live show being in Orlando meant a lot of NXT development wrestlers were backstage. Most notable was the presence of Ricochet and Tessa Blanchard. Expect the Royal Rumble to include a couple new faces.
3. Dolph Ziggler To Return
Ziggler may not be on television and he was ruled to have vacated the U.S. Title leading to a tournament on SmackDown Live, but he’s still wrestling live events and one rumor circulating is that he might return and lay claim to the U.S. Championship after the tournament crowns a new title holder.
He would suggest he’s still the man, and that no one beat him for the title. It would eventually lead to a ladder match with both U.S. belts hanging above the ring.
2. Jericho For the Rumble
Chris Jericho versus Kenny Omega is in the books and it was a great match. Already, there are rumors (Dave Meltzer on Twitter) that Jericho may make a surprise return to WWE an be an entry for the Royal Rumble match.
It looks as though Jericho’s band is touring through WrestleMania season so there’s no way he’d win the Rumble but his schedule might be open to attending the event on January 28th. WWE would like to have him appear sooner than later so that there’s no confusion about where his loyalties are.
1. Shane McMahon To Be Part of WrestleMania 34
The rumor is that Shane McMahon will have another prominent match at WrestleMania 34 this year but the speculation that it will be against Daniel Bryan is premature. Fans may be hoping Bryan is cleared to wrestle but it hasn’t happened yet and Dave Meltzer is reporting it likely won’t.
The match is more likely to include Kevin Owens or Sami Zayn with some sort of stipulation. Bryan will be involved but in what capacity is still unclear.
