For 434 days, CM Punk held the WWE Championship, holding it from Survivor Series 2011 to Royal Rumble 2013. During this time, and onward, Punk was billed as the longest WWE Champion in the modern era. However, this record has now been broken.

Brock Lesnar, who has been the Universal Champion since WrestleMania 33, was congratulated by Bobby Lashley for his achievement.  This may be a surprise to most, since there have been major speculation that Lashley could be Lesnar's opponent for SummerSlam, although these rumors have mostly been updated to Roman Reigns.

Lesnar's advocate, Paul Heyman, had no shame in endearing his client on social media, as well as making a case that he is the greatest "advocate." Heyman was also Punk's manager through a significant portion of his WWE Championship tenure.

One of the biggest discussions going around the wrestling community regarding this topic is that Lesnar's total Universal Championship reigns pale in comparison to CM Punk's WWE Championship reigns, since Lesnar's title defenses and total matches were completely lopsided compared to Punk's. In fact, during Punk's title reign, he had over 140 defenses. Lesnar however, had only 10, with his last one against Reigns at the Greatest Royal Rumble event, nearly two months ago.

Despite the lopsided statistics, many can agree that Lesnar does not need to be on WWE television to prove that he is a mega star, compared to Punk spending his time as champion also continuing to prove himself of someone of being worthy of that spot.

While Lesnar has main-evented WrestleMania 19, 31, and 34 since being a part of the WWE roster, Punk did not main event one. Obviously, WWE sees Lesnar as a bigger star than Punk, which is why the number of appearances have been drastically different, favoring an easier schedule for Lesnar. Based on the latest reports, the WWE Universe may not see Lesnar compete until SummerSlam, nearly four months after his previous title defense.
