Bobby Lashley could be WWE bound.
Two big names were rumored to be leaving Impact Wrestling and making their way to the WWE. One was EC3 who showed up last night at NXT TakeOver and the other was Bobby Lashley.
Last in the WWE between 2005 and 2008, Lashley has a sour history with the WWE and namely Michael Hayes, but apparently, things are back on track because Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Radio is reporting Lashley will be signing with the WWE imminently.
Meltzer noted that Lashley was negotiating with both NJPW and WWE, but negotiations with NJPW ended, and he's free to sign with WWE right away, potentially arriving as early as tonight's WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view. If that is the case, there are plenty of opportunities to get Lashley on the card. He could enter in one of the many empty 30 spots or, he could answer Bobby Roode's open challenge for the United States Championship.
An interesting sidenote of this news is that Meltzer believes Lashley may start a program with Brock Lesnar after WrestleMania or later this year. It would be news to Lesnar who is rumored not to be aware of a program with Lashley, but the pairing makes sense as both competitors have an extensive MMA background and it would be a sellable program for the company. What could complicate the matter is that Lesnar's contract is set to expire after WrestleMania 34.
When asked about Lashley's previous heat with the company, Lashley doesn't seem to think the issue is still an issue. Lashley explained, "I'm still good friends with some people there. I've talked with Vince [McMahon] a couple times. Shane [McMahon] and I are pretty good friends, I talk with him from time to time. Dolph Ziggler, I talk to him from time to time. We just haven't really went that route."
If Lashley does make his debut at the Royal Rumble tonight, he should be a favorite to go far in the match itself. It wouldn't make sense to have him debut and be eliminated early. Should he not debut, he's a name to watch for on Monday's Raw.
