Braun Strowman has quickly emerged as one of the biggest (literally and figuratively), and baddest WWE superstars in recent memory. The Monster Among Men has quickly risen to the ranks as one of the top wrestlers on the Raw roster.

Strowman's real name is Adam Scherr - but he opted to adopt a different wrestling name - like the majority of superstars.  But unlike many other wrestling names that just come up randomly, 'Braun Strowman' actually has an interesting story behind it.

Appearing on WTMJ-TV Milwaukee, Strowman explained how the idea of his ring name came up, and why he uses it today. The 6-foot-8 giant attended a Milwaukee Brewers game with his cousin last year, and the team's PR guy brought them over to meet the players.

Strowman then explained the awesome and hilarious story about why he became known as 'Braun':

"Funny story, I wanted to meet Ryan Braun because that's a big influence of where 'Braun' came from. I had pitched a bunch of ideas for names with the company and they turned them all down. It kind of got down to a time crunch, we need to figure out something out now.

We were sitting around the [WWE] Performance Center and Sportscenter was on and they were talking about Ryan Braun and I was like 'Braun, that sounds pretty good.' I mean look at me, I'm 6'8 and 385 lbs., I mean Braun is pretty fitting."

Ryan Braun isn't quite as big as Strowman (6-foot-2, 205 pounds), but he does crush baseballs the way The Monster Among Men crushes his opponents. So there are some similarities between the two star athletes.

As for Strowman? Perhaps he's a fan of Toronto Blue Jays star pitcher, Marcus Stroman - though he could have chosen to change the spelling. Unfortunately, Strowman did not explain what had him go with 'Strowman' last name.

Early in his developmental days with WWE, Braun's in-ring surname was "Stowman." It changed to "Strowman" once he joined the main roster in Aug. 2015.

That's what makes life fascinating, especially for wrestlers trying to come up with interesting characters and ring names. You never know when you'll find the fictional name that'll make you legendary. In Strowman's case, he just had to watch an episode of Sportscenter to go from Adam to Braun.
