After spending years seeing his character be repeatedly failed by WWE Creative, Bray Wyatt was taken off programming altogether after his association with 'Woken' Matt Hardy came to an end. He returned months later, as the host of the surreal Firefly Fun House.

Over time, those segments turned sinister, as Wyatt teased the emergence of The Fiend; a true manifestation of evil and darkness. Since making his in-ring debut at SummerSlam in 2019, The Fiend has been used relatively sparingly in the ring. Some of his matches have been nothing short of fantastic, while others have been absolutely disastrous.

9 Vs. Goldberg (Super ShowDown, 2020)

Goldberg Universal Champion

Heading into Super ShowDown in February 2020, WWE turned Goldberg into the number one contender to The Fiend's Universal Championship. It came out of the blue, but fans hoped that The Fiend would get a big win over the usually-unbeatable Goldberg.

But it went down like any one of Goldberg's matches; Spear, Jackhammer, victory. Just like that, The Fiend had been pinned clean in minutes and Goldberg was a 2-time Universal Champion. It was a terrible match created to eventually put over Roman Reigns without giving him the heat of beating The Fiend. That turned out to be pointless, as he didn't work his match against Goldberg at WrestleMania 36.

8 Vs. Seth Rollins (Hell In A Cell, 2019)

After making a wildly successful debut against Finn Balor, The Fiend immediately segued into a feud with Seth Rollins for the Universal Championship. The two met for the championship in the main event of Hell in a Cell in 2019. The match started off well, with The Fiend pretty much no-selling everything and getting right back up.

But then, a barrage of stomps and the use of multiple weapons on The Fiend resulted in the referee calling an end to the match. It was completely overbooked, ridiculous nonsense and fans hated it. As The Fiend was stretchered out, he rose once more to take out Rollins to stand tall as the show went off the air to a chorus of boos. This was the perfect example of Vince McMahon's short-sighted vision and convoluted booking that has soured a number of viewers on the product over the years.

7 Vs. Braun Strowman (SummerSlam, 2020)

The Fiend vs Braun Strowman Summerslam

After spending months feuding with Braun Strowman as Bray Wyatt, The Fiend finally emerged in time for SummerSlam to challenge for the Universal Championship. The Falls Count Anywhere match in the main event ended up being a bit of a drag.

The match had a plodding pace, as both men just moved around the ring and backstage beating each other up. It was difficult to see why WWE booked this in the main event, but once The Fiend won the Universal Championship, things became a lot more clear. Roman Reigns returned to programming, took out both competitors while talking trash and holding the Universal Championship aloft. That was the only highlight of an otherwise drab match.

6 Vs. Braun Strowman Vs. Roman Reigns (Payback, 2020)

Roman Reigns Universal Champion Payback

One week after SummerSlam, WWE aired Payback, with The Fiend defending his newly won championship in a triple threat match against Braun Strowman and Roman Reigns. The match got underway, but with Reigns absent, the first half played out like a regular singles match.

To their credit, Strowman and Wyatt turned up the violence with some fun spots before Reigns emerged midway to take out both competitors and win the Universal Championship. While the action between The Fiend and Strowman was better than it was at SummerSlam, it was still lacking. The match itself was more about Roman Reigns and his recent heel turn, with him strolling in and picking up the easy win as an entitled prizefighter. WWE has big plans for the Big Dog and that took precedence over Strowman and Wyatt.

5 Vs. Seth Rollins (Crown Jewel, 2019)

After the unmitigated disaster that was the main event of Hell in a Cell, WWE booked a rematch between The Fiend and Seth Rollins at Crown Jewel, a few weeks later. The Falls Count Anywhere match was everything their first outing should have been. It was violent and put over The Fiend as the most dangerous competitor in the promotion.

But the overall pacing of the match was extremely poor and made it difficult to stay invested for long periods of time. It was also difficult to shake the feeling that all of this was just damage control to appease fans after Hell in a Cell.

4 Vs. Daniel Bryan (Royal Rumble, 2020)

At the Royal Rumble PPV in 2020, The Fiend defended the Universal Championship against Daniel Bryan once more. The use of the strap ensured that neither man would be able to escape the other.

The match itself was a brutal, violent affair, with both men beating each other raw with the strap. Bryan's babyface fire combined with The Fiend's inhuman resilience resulted in a strong match. Unfortunately, it was relatively divisive among sections of fans, who felt that the use of the strap led to a pretty one-note match, that often ground to a halt when they were whipping each other.

3 Vs. Finn Balor (SummerSlam, 2019)

Expectations were extremely high for the debut of The Fiend. WWE had one chance to give the fans something special and they knocked it out of the park. Everything including The Fiend's entrance, his new theme, and his new move-set established him as WWE's newest, seemingly unbeatable monster.

He dominated Finn Balor and fans ate all of it up. Seeing Balor be taken aback by a monster was a nice touch as well, seeing as he had spent years terrorizing other stars as The Demon. The match was all about putting over The Fiend and it did just that.

2 Vs. John Cena (Wrestlemania 36)

The Firefly Fun House Match wasn't really a wrestling match, it was an experience. Wyatt pulled the fans and John Cena into his twisted mind, as he destroyed the former Franchise Player emotionally and psychologically.

The men barely threw any punches, and Cena had no chance, as he fell down the rabbit hole and never found his way out. Towards the end, The Fiend emerged to beat the 16-time World Champion in one of WWE's most creative, twisted, and surreal matches. Every single frame gave fans insight into the mind of Wyatt, a mind so dark it birthed The Fiend.

1 Vs. Daniel Bryan (Survivor Series, 2019)

At Survivor Series in 2019, Daniel Bryan took on The Fiend for the Universal Championship for the very first time. Bryan took the fight to the monster right out of the gate, unleashing a barrage of kicks on the champion.

The Fiend continued to halt Bryan's momentum with moments of violence and brutality. Bryan was at his best in this match, working the audience like a fiddle. He managed to make a Chicago crowd want to see him beat The Fiend. It was the perfect example of David vs. Goliath. But unlike that story, David did not slay Goliath, as The Fiend managed to take all that punishment before beating Bryan anyway. Both men were nothing short of phenomenal.
