After Bray Wyatt debuted The Fiend, he had a career redemption in the company. It's been a few years since Wyatt introduced his supernatural being to wrestling fans. While he was already popular before that, the company mishandled his character which led to his downfall.
WWE experimented many times with Wyatt and took many poor decisions regarding his character. But a lot of the time, the Superstar also failed to meet the company’s expectations when he was given opportunities in WWE. Most fans blame the company for failing Wyatt, but the following are examples of when the opposite happened.
8 He Has A Gimmick That Can't Work In Title Matches
Although The Fiend had a ton of support from wrestling fans when he first debuted, the biggest gripe people had from the company was that they weren't giving opportunities to Wyatt properly. Hell in a Cell 2019 was a great example where everyone was mad over the fact that Wyatt lost even after showing an ungodly amount of strength during his match against Seth Rollins.
But when WWE finally made him the Universal Champion at Crown Jewel that year, it didn’t help his character at all. The problem with Wyatt’s character was that while he could win the title, but it was very hard to figure out who would do defeat him for the belt and protected his character at the same time.
7 Gets Way Too Creative With His Character
Bray Wyatt was given a ton of creative freedom and that helped him deliver many great segments to the WWE Universe. The Firefly Fun House segments, for instance, were the byproduct of Wyatt's imaginations and fans really enjoyed watching them.
But now, it seems like Wyatt has got way too much creative freedom with his character. The Fiend started out great, but right now, it really just feels like that he is a low-budget cheesy horror movie character.
6 Can't Have A Good Run With The Title
Bray Wyatt's first WWE Championship reign came after he won the Elimination Chamber match in 2017. Wyatt had a ton of momentum going into his title reign, but he failed as a champion.
It wasn't all WWE's fault for not booking properly because, until his next feud with Randy Orton, things were really well for Bray. He even beat AJ Styles and John Cena once clean in his WWE Title defense match. But his reign was pretty much forgettable.
5 The Fiend Character Isn't Flexible
Bray Wyatt is a great character in WWE, but he really sucks at wrestling. As The Fiend, Wyatt doesn’t get to do the only thing he’s really good at, which is connecting with the crowd. And the Firefly Fun House version of him doesn’t cut it for The Fiend.
Because he's also not great at wrestling and that really limits the number of things WWE could do with him, his character was stuck in the same setting for months and then WWE aligned Alexa Bliss with him. When that became boring, WWE wrote him off television for a few months and he returned with the lamest Halloween mask on earth. Most of the time, WWE limits a wrestler in the ring, but in this case, it’s Wyatt who doesn’t give many options to the creatives.
4 Comparisons With The Undertaker
The fans really started this in the first place. As a cult leader of The Wyatt Family, Bray Wyatt was one of the most over characters in the entire WWE. But then fans started calling him the next Undertaker and when WWE added more supernatural abilities to his character, it just didn't work out.
But WWE shouldn't be the only one to take the blame for it. Wyatt had the gimmick that could've really worked, but a lot of things went wrong there.
3 Needs A Reset Every Year
Bray Wyatt has had many career resets in WWE. Even though fans have always liked him as a character, Wyatt has failed to stay relevant for a long time. It seems that Bray needs to have significant changes to his gimmick every few months to stay relevant.
From the Eater of Worlds gimmick to The Fiend, none of Wyatt’s characters have really worked in the long term. In the beginning, he comes out really strong, but after some time, he loses his momentum.
2 He Kills Faces
The thing about The Fiend is that it's such an overpowered character that anyone who feuds with him loses most of their momentum. In other words, The Fiend literally kills characters in WWE.
Pretty much every babyface who feuded with Wyatt, they have rarely come out stronger on the other side of that feud. There are some exceptions for sure, but most wrestlers such as Finn Balor and Seth Rollins really had their momentum ruined after feuding with Wyatt.
1 WWE Can't Depend On Him
Bray Wyatt reached the main event status many times in his career. But every time WWE really tried to depend on him, he failed the company. He couldn't succeed as a champion in WWE, needed way too much protection as a character to keep his momentum, and rarely even provided great matches ever.
Despite that, fans want him to be the main event star in WWE and win titles. But they don't understand that Wyatt's gimmick just can't fill some gaps for the company.
