The year is done and there has been an awful lot of action in WWE, perhaps more than ever before. Rather than looking back though for this article, we are going to look ahead. One year may be over but another one is about to begin and there are almost endless possibilities. What does 2018 hold for WWE? We're going to witness the first ever women's Royal Rumble match, will likely see Roman Reigns defeat Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34, and Raw will celebrate its 25th anniversary in style. We're here to detail which Superstars have the world at their feet. Here are five wrestlers who we believe will be breakout stars in WWE during 2018 across Raw, SmackDown Live, and 205 Live.

5. The Bludgeon Brothers

The tag team division on SmackDown Live is incredibly strong right now. It all began this past summer when The Usos and The New Day staged great match after great match as they traded the Tag Team Titles back and forth. Now, the pairings of Rusev and Aiden English along with Benjamin and Gable have been added to the mix the matches have continued to steal the show. What's more is that the blue brand still has spare tag teams that haven't even really been involved in the tag title scene so far. One of those teams is The Bludgeon Brothers, and when they decide they want the gold they will likely get it. No one has been able to stand in the way of the destructive pair so far and in 2018 they will make the tag division on SmackDown Live their playground.

4. Drew Gulak

WWE has been using a number of names in an attempt to boost interest in 205 Live and help save the cruiserweight brand. Austin Aries, Neville, Enzo Emore, and most recently Hideo Itami have been brought in to try and get people watching. Who would have thought that as 2017 came to a close, however, that the unlikely hero of 205 Live would be Drew Gulak? The Cruiserweight Classic competitor is currently acting as Amore's right-hand man and it seemed as if Gulak would become the number one contender to his master's crown. That, unfortunately, did not happen and instead, Cedric Alexander will get that shot. The cracks are still beginning to show though, and we can't wait to see Gulak finally turn on the champ.

3. Rusev

Rusev has had a bumpy ride as a WWE Superstar. When he first arrived on the main roster The Bulgarian Brute, he went over a year without being pinned. Then, once he was things started to go downhill for him, including being made a member of the less than successful League Of Nations faction. Rusev continued to plug away though, and now he has managed to reinvent himself. On the final SmackDown Live of the year, fans were chanting Rusev Day sporadically throughout the show, even when the former US Champion wasn't in the ring. WWE can't ignore it and will have to push Rusev in 2018.

2. Elias

Aside from Triple H no one envisioned what was coming for Elias. At the beginning of 2017, The Drifter was merely an NXT Superstar who got on fans' nerves. Kassius Ohno successfully banished him from Full Sail and we all hoped that would be the end of it. Then Elias began appearing on Raw. Why it was believed he could do some good after enjoying little success on NXT was unknown at the time but whoever's idea it was to move him on up is likely being hailed as a genius right about now. Elias has taken to the main roster like a duck to water and is being rewarded for doing so. He has already had great matches with Roman Reigns and John Cena and things will only get better for him in 2017.

1. Chad Gable

via wwe.com

What could have been one of the biggest angles of the year if booked correctly was the reveal of Kurt Angle's big secret. The secret turned out to be that Jason Jordan was the GM's illegitimate son. What has been made very clear ten times over since that reveal is that the role should have been given to Chad Gable. The former Tag Team Champion is a better wrestler and is much more like the Olympic gold medalist on the mic. After he was abandoned by Jordan, Gable had a number of singles matches that demonstrated how good he really is. However, WWE still went ahead and put him in a team with Shelton Benjamin. That hasn't worked, yet Gable continues to show his worth, hopefully so much so that in 2018 we will see a promising singles run from him.
