While the reality of the situation was probably very emotionally painful, Marc Mero has turned Sable leaving him for Brock Lesnar into an amusing anecdote. He was insanely jealous and upset that she had gone back to the WWE, the company that she sued, the company that she felt treated her unfairly. But when he found out the new man in her life was Brock, Mero learned humility real quick.

It might not seem like it on the surface but Mrs. Lesnar certainly has a type. Both men very interesting similarities, and they go beyond the person they each married at one point in their lives.

Either in spite of, or because of the massive botch, WWE likes to play Brock Lesnar’s Shooting Star Press from WrestleMania XIX. But The Next Big Thing had been utilizing the move as a finish down in OVW.

Years earlier when he made his debut in WWE, Mero used the move as a new finish he called The Wild Thing, which became Marvelocity when Mero turned heel.

7 The TKO & The F5

When Mero turned heel, he eventually stopped using the Shooting Star Press. He adopted a Fireman’s Carry/spinning cutter combo that he dubbed the TKO. Mero would fall forward with his opponent for his move.

From the moment Brock debuted in 2002, Lesnar had a very similar-looking version that he dubbed the F5. Lesnar’s immense power allowed him to practically heave any opponent right off of his shoulders as he falls backwards, this way anyone who suffers the F5 is landing right on their face.

6 From Trunks To Shorts

When Mero has wrestled in WCW all the way up until he turned heel, he was a perennial babyface. While not a prerequisite for being a good guy, Mero wore tights all the way up until becoming a jerk. He then switched to fight shorts.

Conversely, The Beast also did the same thing. He began his career in OVW and WWE wearing short trunks. But upon his shocking return in 2012, he too switched over to fight shorts.

5 They Both Feuded With Triple H

While the Marvelous One and the Anomaly never met in the ring, they did however both work programs with Triple H.

When Lesnar returned in 2012, he would collide with The Game at several big events - SummerSlam and then again WrestleMania in a career-ending match for Triple H, and lastly at Extreme Rules in a cage match! Years earlier, Mero also feuded with Triple during his debut at WrestleMania XII, saving Hunter’s valet for the night, Sable. The two would then feud later over the intercontinental title, which involved a returning Mr. Perfect turning on Mero.

There are several WWE Superstars who have come from other backgrounds before coming to WWE. Brock Lesnar of course famously left the company in 2004 and became a phenomenon in UFC, winning 5 of his 9 professional fights and the UFC title along the way.

Marc Mero as well also dabbled in fight sports before he made it to the squared circle. He was trying to become a professional boxer and had won several New York boxing tournaments, including the esteemed Golden Gloves tournament.

When a broken nose curtailed Mero’s boxing aspirations, he turned to pro wrestling and learned the craft from the entire Malenko family - Boris, Joe, and Dean. The family taught him the right way of doing things and it paid off for him in a fairly decent run across two promotions.

By the time Brock Lesnar began training in WWE, The Man Of 1000 Holds was transitioning out of the ring into a full-time training position and he was able to work with The Next Big Thing in OVW to help train him as well.

While Mero didn’t seem like an animal with his in-ring work, as soon as Vince McMahon found out that Mero didn’t own the rights to Johnny B. Badd, he and WWE Creative got busy coming up with the leopard-print-clad Wild Man gimmick - Mero was even billed as being from The Jungle.

As the story goes when told by Jim Ross, when Marc Mero brought this his then-wife Rena to Stamford to show her around, they thought they might have been hiring the wrong Mero. With plenty of modeling experience and none in the ring, she was signed and Sable was born!

She was instantly a hit with throngs of the young male demo that WWE had coveted. One of those young fans was Brock Lesnar. Years later, he found himself on the Smackdown roster and Rena had returned to the company as well. It was before long that those two became an item.
