The Bullet Club had an extremely eventful New Year Dash on Friday including a potential new recruit outright rejecting their invitation.
The respective members of the Bullet Club enjoyed mixed success at Wrestle Kingdom 12 earlier this week. While Kenny Omega and The Young Bucks emerged from the event victorious, Marty Scurll and Cody were defeated on New Japan's biggest night of the year. What would be next for pro wrestling's most popular faction heading into New Year Dash?
Bullet Club's new wrestling year has gotten off to a rocky start, and that's putting it mildly. The five men mentioned above were involved in a ten man tag match at NYD and during the bout, Cody began to brutally attack Kota Ibushi, the man who defeated him at Wrestle Kingdom. Ibushi is a former tag team partner of Omega who stepped in to stop his fellow faction member from doing any more damage.
After a heated encounter between Cody and Omega, The Cleaner cut a promo claiming he is sick of the squabbles going on within Bullet Club's ranks. He then revealed his plan to rectify that, introducing a new member. That member was Jay White. Switchblade came to the ring and put on the Bullet Club t-shirt given to him by Omega, only to then turn around and hit his finisher, the Blade Runner, on the IWGP United States Champion.
White was unsuccessful in his attempts to dethrone IWGP Intercontinental Champion, Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 12. Clearly, he has his sights set on another opponent and a different championship heading into this new year, however. There was talk that Omega's rivalry with Chris Jericho may continue but that is on hold, at least for now, while Y2J goes after Naito.
Clearly, Kenny Omega has a lot of plates to spin right now. Not only is he having to deal with issues within his own ranks, but the idea he had to bring in a new face and help settle those waves has blown up in his face. Considering the ascent and popularity of Jay White, Switchblade may very well be the most legitimate threat to The Cleaner's US Title to date.
